Driving off road
- Activate the ESP offroad mode=> page 252 as needed .
- Use the
hill descent control => page 253 when driving
down steep sections on hills.
Unpaved roads and offroad
Drive slowly on unfamiliar roads and unknown offroad sections, and
loo k out for unexpected obstacles (e .g. potho les, rocks, t ree st umps,
etc.).
T o prevent the vehicle from bo ttoming and avoid dam age to the
underbody, you should drive straight across severe bumps in the
gro und with on ly one s ide of the vehicle so tha t on ly two of your
wheels cross the bumps.
Drive brisk ly throug h sandy or marshy offroad sections and do not
stop, if at all poss ible.
Driving through water
Your vehicle ca n drive at maximum wal king speed thro ugh stand ing
water if the gro und is firm enough . The
maximum water depth is
1 9. 7 in o r 500 mm (ve hicles w it h out air spr ings) or 2 1.1 in or
535 mm (vehicles with Adaptive Air Suspension*, at high level 2).
Driving on a slope
If you ever find yourself not able to climb a slope, do not try to t urn
around, drive bac k dow n in
rever se . Ot herw ise, you run t he ris k of
tipping over .
If the vehicle threaten s to tip over when driving a cross a slope , you
must immediately steer downh ill in the direction of the slope .
Do not park your vehicle on steep slopes or gra des .
T o red uce the risk of tipp ing ove r, d rive on s lopes in t he di re ct io n of
the downward slope (fall line) -
not crosswise .
Driving on snow-covered ground
T he standard tires fitted to your vehicle are not snow ti res. So you
should mo unt wheels with snow t ires in good t ime where winter road
conditions prevail. Before driving on unp lowed stretches o f deep snow, install tire chains
. For tech nica l reasons, t ire chains may only
be ins talle d on the re a r wheels - never on the front whee ls.
& WARNING
After driving through water , mud, slush, etc. , the brake s may be
slow to take effect because of wet brake rotors and pads.
Dry the
brake s first by braking carefully to re store the full braking effe ct.

Lights
T he headl ight settings shou ld be chec ked with the tr ailer attached
before driving off. Check to make sure both vehicle and trailer lights
are wo rking properly.
Safety chains
Be sure tra ile r safety cha ins are p roperly connected from the t rai ler
to the hitch on the vehicle. Leave enough slack in the chains to perm it
tu rning corners . When you install sa fe ty ch ains, ma ke sure they will
not drag on the road when you are driving.
T he chains should cross under the trai ler tongue to prevent it from
dropping in case of separation from the h itch .

Driving with a trailer always requires e xtra care and
consideration.
To obtain the best possib le handling of ve hicle a nd trailer ,
please note the following :
- Do not tow a loaded trailer when your car itself is not
loaded.
- Be especia lly careful when pass ing other vehicles .
- Observe speed limi ts.
- Do not drive at the maximum pe rmissible speed.

Weight distri but ion
T owing a loaded trailer with an empty car results in a highly unstable
distribution of we ight . If t his cannot be avoided , drive at very low
speeds only to avoid the risk of losing steering control.
A "balanced" rig is easier to operate and control. This means that the
tow veh icle shou ld be loaded to the extent poss ible and permissib le,
wh ile keeping the tra ile r as lig ht as poss ible unde r the ci rc u mstances.
Whe never possible, transfer some cargo to the luggage compart ­
me nt o f the tow vehicle while observing tongue load requirements
and vehicle loading considerations.
Speed
The higher the speed, the more d ifficult it becomes for the driver to
control the r ig . Do not dr ive at the maxim um permiss ible speed .
Reduce your speed eve n more if load, weather or w ind conditions are
unfavorable -particular ly when going downhill.
Reduce vehicle speed
immed iately if the tra ile r shows the slightest
sign of swaying.
Do not tr y to stop the s wayi ng by a ccele rating .
Observe speed lim its. In some areas, speeds for veh icles towing
trailers are lowe r than for regular veh icles .
Always apply brakes early. When driving downhi ll, shift into a lower
gear to use the engine brak ing effect to slow t he ve hicle . Use of the
brakes alone can cause them to overheat and fa il.
Coolant temperatur e
The coo lant temperature gauge=> page 10 must be observed care­
fu lly. If the needle moves close to the upper end of the sca le, reduce
speed immediately and/or turn off the air conditioner.
If the coo lant temperature warning light in the instrument clus ter
starts flash ing
- F- , pull off the road, stop and let the engine idle for
about two m inutes to prevent hea t buil d-up.

Trailer towing

Trailer towing tips
Important to know
Your vehicle handles differe ntly when tow ing a tra iler because of the
additiona l weight and different we ight distribution. Safety, perfor­
man ce and economy w ill greatly depend on how ca refu lly yo u load
your trailer and operate your rig.
Be fore you actua lly tow your tra ile r, prac tice turning, stopp ing and
back ing u p in a n area away from traffic. Keep pract ic in g until you have
become completely familiar with the way your vehicle -trailer combi­
nation behaves and responds .
Backing up is diff icult and requ ires pract ice. Backing up w ith a trailer
gene rally requires s teer ing a ction opposi te to th at when ba cki ng up
your vehicle witho ut a trailer.
Maintain a greate r d istance between your ve hicl e and the one in front
of yo u. You will need more room to stop . T o compensate fo r the
trai ler, you will need a larger than normal turning radius .
W hen p assing, remember that you c annot acceler ate as fast as yo u
normally wou ld because of the added load. Make sure yo u have
enoug h room to pass. After passi ng, allow plen ty of room fo r yo ur
tra iler before changing lanes again .
Avoid jerky starts, sharp turns or rapid lane changes .

Parking on a slope
Do not park on a slope with a trailer. If it cannot be
av oided, do so only after doing the following:
When parking:
- Apply the foot brak e.
- Have someone p lac e chocks un der bo th the vehicle and t he
traile r w he els .
- With c hoc ks i n place, slowly release the brakes u ntil the
wheel c hoc ks absorb t he load.
- Turn the w hee ls towards t he curb .
- A pply the parking brake.
- M ove th e selector le v er to
P.
When restarting after parking:
- A pply the foot brake .
- Start the engine .
- Mov e th e s elector lever to
D .
- Release the par king brake a nd s low ly pull o ut and away
fro m the w heel chocks.

Dirt and marks on the trim str ips should be removed with a pH­
balanced
cl eani ng agen t (d o no t use a chr ome cleaner). Au thori ze d
Audi dealers carry cleaning products w hich have bee n tested fo r use
on yo ur vehicle an d are not harmful to the environment.
T o avoid co rrosion on the exte rio r trim s trips, o nly a pH-b alanced
so lution should be used for the windshield washer.

Plastic and vinyl
Plastic nee ds special care.
Use a clean, damp cloth or s ponge to remove d ust and light surface
dirt . For other soil, use a lukewarm all-purpose cleaning solution or a
m ild saddle soap fo r viny l tr im . Remove water spots and traces o f
soap with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Use a clean, soft cloth to rub
dry.
Grease , tar or oi l stains can be removed with a clean cloth o r sponge
soa ke d wi th all- pur pose cleaner or wi th a so lvent des igned especially
to clean v inyl.
Occas ionally app ly a colorless v inyl or leather p reservative to retain
t he m ateria l's luster and p liabili ty.

Aluminum trim
Use on ly neutral-pH products to remove spots and depos its from
alum inum su rfaces. Chro m e care produ cts an d alka line cle aners will

Touch-up paint
M inor paint damages should be touched up immedia tely.
- Use e ither a touch-up paint st ick o r spray p ain t to cover
minor scratches a nd nicks.
Your author ized A udi d ea le r has touch- up paint fo r minor scratches
and stone ch ips. Sc ra t ch es should be touched up soon afte r they
occur to preve nt corros ion .
If a s pot start s to ru st, however, a sim ple touch-up job will not be
enoug h. T he affected surface must be sanded smooth and coated
w it h an an ti- rus t pr ime r before the pai nte d finish can be restore d.

Natural leather
Audi makes great efforts to maintain the properties,
na tural look and feel of interior leather .
General
We offer many different types of leather on our vehicles . Most are
different types of nappa leather, which has a smooth s urface and
comes in various colors.
Th e intensity of the color determines the visual cha racter istics and
appearance .
If the surface of the leat her has a typical natural look,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has been left in a relatively
natura l condition. This leathe r offers pa rticu la rly good comfo rt and
breathes wel l. Fine veins, closed gra ins, insect b ites, sk in fo lds, and
s u btl e var iations in co lor remai n visible . These c harac ter istics demon ­
strate that the mater ial is natural.
N atural nappa leather is not covered by a color fin ish . It is the refore
more sensitive to soiling and wea r, which is something you need to
consider if children, animals or other factors might prove to be partic ­
ular ly hard on the leather .
By contrast, leather types that are covered by a colored fin ish layer
are more dur able. This h as a pos it ive e ffect on t he leather 's resist ance
to wear and so iling in daily use . On the other hand, the typical charac­
t eris tics of na tura l leather are ba rely o r not app aren t. H oweve r, this
does not mean that the leather itself is of inferior quality.
Care and handling
Because of the exclusive nature of the types of leather that Audi uses
and the ir un ique properties (such as sensitivi ty to oils, gre ase, soiling,
etc.), you will need to be somewhat careful with these leathe rs, a nd
a ce rtain type of care is req uired. For example, dark clo thing mate ­
r ials can discolor leather seats (especially if such clothing is damp and
was not dyed cor rect ly). Dust and dirt particles in pores, folds, and
seams can have a n ab rasive effect and ca n damage the leathe r
surface as well as weaken seams.
Safety first
The leather should be cleaned regularly as needed . After having been
used for a rela tively long time, yo ur leat her seats w ill acq uire a rich
aged fi nish. This is a characteristic of natural leather and a s ign of
true quality .
I n orde r to maintain the va lue of this nat ural p rodu ct over t he life of
your vehicle, you should fo llow the recommendations be low:

• To keep your leather from b leach ing out, do not allow it to be
exposed to b right s unl igh t fo r long pe riod s of time. If yo u have to
leave t he veh icle parked outside for long periods, cover the leather to
protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.
• Sharp objects on cloth ing, such as zippers, rivets or sharp pieces
on belts can le ave pe rm an ent sc ratches o r scrape mar ks on the
surface of the leather.
[I] Tips
• After each t ime you clean the leather and at regular intervals, use
a leathe r preservat ive creme that con tains UV -bloc ke rs and that
works into the leather. This creme will nourish and mo istur ize the
leather, helping it to b reathe and s tay supp le . It also he lps to build up
a p rotect ive coa ting on the surface .
• C lean the leather every 2 -3 months, a nd clean any areas that get
soiled .
• Remove fresh marks made by ballpoint pens, ink, lipstick, shoe
polish, etc . as soon as poss ible.
• P reserve t he colo r of t he lea ther as needed by us ing a specia l
co lored leather care creme to touch up areas of uneven color. •

Cleaning and caring for leather upholstery
and trim
Natural leather requires special care and attention.
Normal cleaning
-Clean so iled areas with a slightly moistened cotton or
woolen cloth .
More stubborn dirt
- More stubborn dirt can be removed using a cloth satu­
rated with a mild soap solution (2 tablespoons mild liquid
soap).
- Never allow the soap solution to saturate the leather, and
make certain that no water soaks into the seams.
-Wipe off the soap solution with a soft, dry cloth.
Cleaning spots
- Remove fresh water-based spots (such as coffee, tea,
juices, blood) with an absorbent cloth or paper towel.
- Remove fresh
grease or oil-based spots (such as butter,
mayonnaise, chocolate) with an absorbent cloth or paper
towel, or use the cleaner from the leather care kit if the
spot has not yet penetrated into the surface of the
leather.
- Use an oil/grease dissolving spray, if
oil/grease spots
have dried on .
-Remove specific kinds of spots (ballpoint pen, felt marker,
fingernail polish, water-based paint, shoe polish, etc .)
with a spot remover specifically formulated for leather.
Leather care
- Every half year use an approved leather care product
(available from your authorized Audi dealer) to care for
the leather.
- Apply the product very sparingly .
- Wipe it off with a damp cloth .
If you have any questions about cleaning and caring for the leather in
your vehicle, it is best to contact your author ized Audi dealer, who will
be glad to help you and tell you about our fu ll range of leather care
products, such as:
• Leather cleaning and care kit
• Creams to care for colored leather
• Spot removers for ba llpoint pens, shoe polish, etc.
• Oil/grease dissolving spray
• New and upcoming products .

Engine compartment
Be especially careful when cleaning the engine compa rt­
men t.
Always switch off the ignition before cleaning the engine=:>& .
Plenum panel
Remove leaves from the plenum panel in front of the win dshi eld
unde r th e eng ine hood . T hi s prevents the water d rain holes from
becoming b locked, and it prevents debris from entering the vehicle
inter io r th rough the heat ing and vent ilation ducts .
Corrosion protection
The eng ine compartment and transmission have been cor rosion­
protected at the factory.
Good ant i-cor rosion treatment is very impo rtant , pa rtic ular ly in the
w inter . If the vehicle is frequently driven on sa lt treated roads, the
en tire eng ine compar tment and plenum p anel sho uld be thoroug hly
cleaned at the end of winter and retreated to prevent salt damage. At
t he same t ime, the underside of the vehi cle should be washed as well.
If the e ng ine compartment is clea ned at any t ime with grease
removing so lutions
2l , or i f you have the engine washed , the anti ­
co rros io n treatment is a lmost a lways removed as w ell.
It is t herefore
essential to have a long-last ing corrosion p rotect ion reapplied to all
surfa ces, seams, jo ints and compo nents in the engi ne co mpa rt ment .

• Before reaching into the front plenum panel , alway s remove
the ignition key. Otherwise, the windshield wiper system could unintentionally be switched on , possibly causing personal injury
from the moving wiper linkage.
• Never reach into the area around or touch the radiator fan. The
auxiliary fan is temperature controlled and can switch on suddenly
· ev en when the ignition is off.
• Do not wash, wax or dry the engine with th e engine running.
Moving or hot pa rts could injure you.
• Do not clean the underside of the chass is, fenders, wheel
covers, or other hard to reach part s without protecting your hands
and arm s. You may cut yourself on sharp-edged metal parts.

Fuel supply and filling your fuel tank
Blend of g asoline and ethanol (grain alcohol or ethyl alcohol )
• Anti-knock index must be 8 7 AKI o r higher .
• Blend must not conta in more than 10% ethanol.
Blend of gasoline and M TBE
• Anti-knoc k index must be 87 AKI o r highe r.
• Blend must conta in not more than 15% MTB E.
Sea sonally adjusted ga soline
Many gasoline grades are b lended to perform especially well for
w inte r or summer d riving. Duri ng seasonal change-ove r, we s uggest
that you fill up at busy gas stat ions where the seasonal adjus tment is
mor e likely to be made in time.

• Methano l fuels which do not meet these requirements may cause
co rrosion and damage to plast ic and rubber component s in the fue l
system .
• Do not use fuels that fail to meet the specified c riteria in this
chapter.
• If you are unable to dete rm ine whether or not a part icu lar fuel
blend meets the specifications, ask your service stat ion or its fuel
supplier .
• Do not use f uel fo r which t he con tents cannot be iden tifie d.
• Fuel system damage and performance problems result ing from
t he use o f fuels differe nt from t hose s pecifie d are not t he responsi­
bility of Aud i and are not covered u nder the New Ve hicle o r th e Em is­
sion Cont ro l System Warranties .
• If you experience a loss of fuel economy or drivea b i lity and perfor­
m ance problems d ue to the use o f one of these fue l blends , we
recommend that you switch to unblended fuel. •

Gasoline additives
A m ajor concer n amo ng many a uto m anufa ctu rers i s ca rb o n deposi t
build-up caused by the type of gasoline you use .
Altho ugh gaso line g rades differ from one manufacturer to another,
they have certain t hings in common . All gaso line grades contai n
substances that can cause deposits to collect on vita l engine pa rts,
su ch as fue l injecto rs an d inta ke valves. A lthough mos t gaso line
brands include additives to keep eng ine and fue l systems clean, they
are not equ ally effec tive.
Audi recommends us ing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline . Fo r more
info rmation on TOP TI ER Detergent Gasoline, p lease go to t he off ic ia l
webs ite (www .toptiergas .com) .
After an extended period of using inadequate f uels, ca rbon deposit
build -ups ca n rob your e ngine of peak perfo rma nce .

Diesel fuel
A lw ays us e ULS D (U ltra Low Sulfur Di esel) sulfur content
1 5 ppm or less .
The U LSD (Ul tra Low Sulfu r Die sel) meets t he AS TM- D-97S (grade 2) .
Diesel fuel w ith a higher concentration than ULSD-Diesel No. 2
ASTM D975 and Bio-die sel with a higher concentration than 5
%
like B11, B20 or B100 are strictly prohibited .
Serv ice station fue l pumps are labe led w it h the co rrect fuel informa­
ti on fo r easy recogni tion by the user. If the diese l fuel pump is not ..,_

Putting the fuel cap back on
- After filling your tank, twist the fuel fi ller cap c lockwise as
f ar as it w ill go.
- Close t he fue l fi ller flap.
To avoid fuel spi lling or evapo rating from the f uel tank a lways close
fue l filler cap properly and comp lete ly . An impro perly closed fuel
filler cap may also ca use the MIL lamp~
page 26 to come on (only
vehicle s wi th gaso lin e e ngine).
& WARNING
Improper refueling or handling of fuel can cause fire, explosion
and severe burns .
• Fuel i s highly flammable and can cause severe burns and other
injuries.
• Failure to shut the engine off while refueling and /or to insert
the pump nozzle fully into the fuel filler neck could cause fuel to spray out of filler n eck or to overflow. Fuel spray and ov erflowing
fuel can cause a fire.
• Never use a cellular telephone while refueling. The electromag­
netic radiation can cau se sparks that can ignite fuel vapors and
cause a fire.
• Never get back into your vehicle while refueling. If in excep­
tional cir cumstan ces you must get ba ck in your v ehicle while refu­
eling, make certain that you close the door and touch metal to
discharge static electricity before touching the filler nozzle again .
Static electricity can cause sparks that can ignite fuel vapo rs
released during refueling.
• Never smoke or have an open flame anywhere in o r near your
vehicle when refueling or filling a portable fue l container.
• For your safety , we strongly recommend that you do not travel
with a portable fuel container in your vehicle . The container , full
or empty may leak and could cau se a fire , especially in a crash.

• If, under exceptional circumstances , you must tran sport a
portable fuel container, please observe the following:
-Never fill a portable fuel container while it is anywhere in or
on the vehicle (for example, in the luggage compartment, or
on the trunk ). Static electricity can build up while filling and
can ignite fuel vapors causing a fire .
- Always place a portable fuel container on the ground before
filling .
- Always keep the filler nozzle completel y inside the portable
container before and during filling.
- If filling a portable container made of metal, the filler nozzle must always be in contact with the container. This will help
prevent static ele ctricity from discharging and cause a fire .
- Ne ver spill fuel inside the vehicle or luggage compartment .
Fuel vapor s are highly flammable.
- Always observe local and state /provincial laws regarding the
use, storage and tran sportation of fuel containers .
-Make certain the fuel container meets industry standards
( ANSI / ASTM F852-86 ).

to prevent damage to the paint.
As soon as the co rrectly ope rated no zzle switches off a utomat ica lly
f or t he firs t time, the t ank i s full. Do no t try to ad d mo re fuel bec ause
fue l may spill out. In addition, the expansion space in the fuel tank
w ill be fi lled -caus ing the fue l to overf low when it becomes wa rm and

- Remove the cap from the refill bott le.
- Position t he refill bott le on the filler tube a nd turn the
bottle clockwise u ntil it stops turning~

- Press lightly against the bottom of the bottle@to em pty
it. Contin ue pressing the bottom o f the bott le until it is
empty or until fluid stops flowing into the tank.
- Turn the bottle to the left without pressing on the
bottom .
Closing the filler tube
- Turn t he cap clockw ise on t he fi ller t ube with t he lug
wrench un til you hear it t ighte n comp letely.
- Then press on the le ft side of the filler fla p un til yo u hear
i t lock.
& WARNING
• Ad B lu e can irritat e the skin, eye s and respiratory sy stem. If
the re is contact with the fluid , flush immed iately with plenty of
water. Con sult a phy sician if ne ce ss ary .
• Do not allow Ad Blue to come into contact with clothing. If
there is contact with the fluid , flush immediate ly with plenty of
water.

• Only use Ad Blue that conforms to the standard ISO 22241-1. Do
no t m ix any addit ives wi th the Ad Blue an d do not dil ute it wi th water.
• Ad Blue is not a diesel add it ive. Do not add it to the diese l tank. If
Ad Blue is mixed w it h diesel f ue l, it can lead to damage to the engine
and the Ad Blue tank system. The L imited New Vehicle Warranty does
no t cover su ch damage.
Safety first
Fuel supply and filling your fuel tank
• Ad Blue attacks surfaces such as pai nted vehicle components,
plast ic and carpet. Remove the fluid as q uickly as poss ible wi th a
damp cloth and plenty of cold wate r. If the Ad Blue has already crys­
tallized, use wa rm water and a sponge. Ad Bl ue residue that is not
removed will crystallize and can damage the affected s urface.
• Do not store the refi ll bott le in the veh icle . If it leaks, the esc aping
Ad Blue could damage the vehicle interior .
(I) Tips
• The fue l fil ler flap of your vehicle is not locked whe n you lock the
vehicle from the inside.
• The refill bottle ho lds approximate ly 0.5 gallon (1.9 liters) .
Always add two bottles of Ad Blue (1 gallon/3.8 liters) as soon as a
message appears in the instrument cluster display~
page 293. The
ignition must be switched off when filling the Ad B lue.
• The veh icle must be d riven after the Ad Blue has been fi lled. The
system may take up to two minutes to detect when Ad B lue is added .
Whe n there is no more Ad Blue in the ta nk and
O mi (0 km) appears in
the instrument cluster display, switch the ignition on for approxi­
mately 15 seco nds and then sta rt the eng ine.
• You can obtain refill bottles from any a uthorized Audi dealer or
other qualified workshop .
