BRAKE /((f) ) Brake system
The light illum inates when the ignition is
switched on. It goes out after the engine has
been started. Th is indicates that the brake
warn ing light is functioning properly.
If the brake warning light doe s not light up
when the engine i s cranking , the re m ay be a malfunction in the elect

- Driv ing with low brake fluid is a safety
hazard. Stop the car and get professional
assista nee.
- USA models: If the 1111 warn ing light,
the
G1 warning light and the (i1!B warn­
ing light come on together, the rea r
wheels co uld lock up first unde r hard
braking. Rear wheel lock-up can cause
loss of vehicle con trol and an accident.
Have your vehicle repaired immediately
by you r authorized Aud i dea ler or a quali­
fied workshop. Drive slowly and avoid
sudden, hard brake applications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning
light •• the
DJ warn ing light and the
ABS warning light
ti] come on together,
the rear wheels could lock up first under
hard braking. Rear wheel lock-up can
cause loss of vehicle control and an acc i­
dent. Have yo ur vehicle repaired immed i­
a tely by your authori zed A udi dealer or a
qualifie d workshop. Dr ive slowly and
avo id sudden, hard brake applicat ions.
- If the brake warning/indicator light does
not go out afte r a few seconds and the
par king brake is released, or lights up
whi le you are driving, the fluid level in
the brake fluid reservoir is too low. If you believe that it is safe to do so, proceed
immediately at low speed to the nearest
authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair
facility and have the brake system in­ spected. -
Always keep in mind that after severa l
brake applications, you will need greater
pressure on the brake pedal to stop your
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with max imum s topping powe r
in critical s ituations . You must allow for
increased braking dis tan ces. The extra
d istance u sed up by fading br akes could
lead to an acciden t.
:l~ /(® ) Electromechanical parking brake
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electromechanical parking brake.
If the indicato r light . (USA models)/ .
(Canada mode ls) turns on, the pa rking brake
was set. If the pa rking brake is set when the
ignition is off, the indicator light turns off a f­
te r abo ut 20 seconds .
The wa rning/indicator lig ht wi ll go out when
the pa rking brake is re leased.
• (USA models ) /. (Can ada models) Cau­
tion: Vehicle parked too steep
If the indicator light b links and the message
appears, there is not enough braking power to
keep the vehicle from rolling . The brakes have
overheated . The vehicle cou ld roll away eve n
o n a sma ll incline .
Press brake pedal to release parking brake
To release the parking b rake, press the brake
peda l and press the button(®) or start dr iving
with starting assist at the same time

To re lease the par king brake manually , p ress

when you switch on the ignition and must go

A malfunction in the engine cooling system
must be repaired as soon as possible.
• Turn off engine and chec k coolant le vel

sage appears, the coo lant temperature is too
high or the coo lant level is too low.
> Pull
off the road.
> Stop the vehicle .
> Turnoff the engine.
> Check coolant level.
> Add coolant if necessary¢

- The engine compartment of any veh icle
is a dangerous area. Before you perform

turn of the eng ine and allow it to cool.

A WARNING

Your veh icle must not be towed in the
event of a malfunction in the electronic
steering co lumn lock because it cannot be
steered due to the locked steering. If it is
towed with the steering locked, there is
the r isk of an accident.

If the engine oil temperature is be low 140 ° F
(60 °C) , the G!#JI symbol followed by three hy ­
phens"- --" and the °C unit is shown .
At an engine oil temperature above
140 °F
(60 °() the engine has reached its operating
temperature . The engine oil temperature may
be higher if there is heavy engine load and
high temperatures outside. This is not a cause
for concern as long as the. ¢
page 17 or
the
II ¢ page 21 warning light in the display
does not flash .
Lap timer
Introduction
You can record and eva luate lap times with
the lap timer in the display¢
page 28,
fig. 15. The time is measured in minutes, sec­
onds and
1/10 seconds. The hours are also
shown when the lap time exceeds 60 minutes .
The maximum individual measurement is
99
hours. A max imum of 99 laps may be record­
ed.

-
Please devote your fu ll att ent ion to driv­
ing. As the driver, you have comp lete re­
sponsibility for safety in traffic. Only use
the funct ions in such a way that you always maintain complete control over your vehi­
cle in all traffic situations.
(D Tips
When the lap timer stopwatch is runn ing,
you can call up the trip computer informa­ tion with the I RESET I button .

vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate veh icle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­ supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by ch ildren can result in serious in­
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherw ise the steering col­
umn lock cou ld suddenly engage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmit ters in the vici nity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen ­
cy range (e .g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).
- Fo r security reasons, replacement keys
are on ly available from Audi dea lers .

- When you leave your vehicle - even if on-
ly briefly - always remove the ignition
key. This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the
children could start the engine or oper­
ate electrical equipment (e.g . power win­
dows). The power windows are function ­
al until the driver's door or passenger's
door has been opened.
- Pay close attention when closing the win­ dows to prevent pinching of hands or
limbs.
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.
{D Tips
- When you open the doors, the windows
automatically lower about 10 mm .
- After the ignition has been switched off, the windows can still be opened or
closed for about 10 minutes. The win­
dow regulators are not switched until
the driver's or passenger's door is
opened.

-Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray- risk of f ire.
(D Note
Only dr ink containe rs with lids should be
carried in the cupholder. Liquid could spill
out and damage your vehicle's e lectronic
equipment or sta in the upholstery, etc.
Glove compartment
The glove comportment is illuminated and
con be locked.

and swing the cover down to open.
.. To close the glove compartment, push the
glove compartment lid upward unt il the lock
engages.
The glove compartment can be locked using

On the r ight side in the glove compartment is
a holder with the key body into which the
emergency key must be clipped to be able to
start the vehicle.
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of persona l injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed whi le driving.

The backrest must be securely latched so
objects cannot slide forward out of the
luggage compartment during sudden
braking.

When folding the backrest forwa rd, make
sure the rear safety be lts a re in the belt
guides so they do not become pinched in
the backrest lock and damaged. Othe r ob­
jects shou ld be removed from the rear
bench seat to protect the backrest from
damage.

Switching the ignition on /off
If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without starting the engine, follow these
steps :
~ Insert the key into the ignition lock .
~ Press the key b riefly wi thout p ress ing the
brake pedal.
~ T o switch the ignition off, press the key
again .
When starting the engine, major e lectr ica l
l oads are switched off temporarily .
You can only remove the key w ith the ignition
sw itched off.
If the engine should not start immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time . Repeat sta rting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to ru n in confined
spaces -dange r of asphyxiation .
- Never remove the ignition key from the
ignition look whi le the vehicle is movi ng.
Otherw ise, the stee ring lo ck cou ld sud­
denly engage and you would not be ab le
to steer the vehicle .
- Always ta ke the key with you wheneve r
yo u leave yo ur vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be started or e lectrica l
equipment such as the power windows
cou ld be operated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave ch ildren or persons requiring
assistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doo rs can be locked using the remote
transmitter, preventing people from es ­
caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an eme rgency . Depend ing
on the t ime of year, people inside the ve­
hicle c an be exposed to very h igh or ve ry
low temperatures.

Avoid high engine rpm, fu ll throttle and
heavy engine loads until the engine has
reached operating temperat ure -other­
wise you r isk eng ine damage.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the eng ine run w hile pa rked to
warm up. Begin dr iv ing immediately . Th is
reduces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
- If the key cannot be removed from the
ignition lock, you have to pull the me­
chanical key out of the master key in or­
der to be able to lock the vehicle
¢ page 34 .
-After starting a cold e ngine, there may
be a brief period of increased no ise be ­
cause the oil p ress ure must fi rst bu ild up
in the hydraulic va lve ad justers. This is
normal and not a cause for concer n.
- If you leave the veh icle w ith the ignition
switched on, the ig nitio n w ill switch off
afte r a cer tain per iod of t ime . Please
note that ele ctrical eq uipment such as
exterior lights will switch off as well
w hen that happens .

Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
Applies to vehicles: with ig ni tion lock
You can use the emergency key as an ignition
key in on emergency.

down until it latches audibly .
.. Inse rt the adapte r with the emergency key
forward into the ignit ion switch. The engine
can now be started as usual.
Stopping the engine
App lies to vehicles: with ig n ition lock
.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop .
.. Automatic transmission: Move the selector
lever to the P or N pos ition .
.. Press on the ignition key. The engine is
t ur ned off.
.. You can now remove the key.
Steering lock
T he s teeri ng locks when yo u remove the igni­
t ion key. The locked steering helps prevent
ve ­
hicle theft .
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unu sual circumstan ces, the
engine can be switched off while the veh icle is
moving. The eng ine will be switched off if you
press on the key for an extended period .
A WARNING ~
-Never turn off the engine before the ve­
hicle has come to a comp lete stop. T he
fu ll function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessa ry. Beca use you cannot steer and
brake as you usually wou ld, this could
lead to crashes and ser io us injuries.
- For safety reasons, you sho uld a lways
park your vehi cle with the sele ctor lever
in P. O therwise, the vehicle could in ad ­
ver ten tly roll away.
- The radiator fan can continue to run fo r
up to 1 0 minu tes
even after you have
t urned off the engine and removed the
ignit ion key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on agai n if the engine coo lant heats
up because o f intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compartment.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your ve hicle. Otherw ise, the
engine could be sta rted or electrical
equ ipment such as the power windows
could be operated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.
- Never leave childre n or persons requiring
assistance unattended in t he vehicle . The
doors can be locked using the remote
trans mitte r, preven ting people from es­
c a ping from t he ve hicle on the ir own in
the event of a n emergency . Depe nding
on the time of year, peop le inside the
ve­
h icle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatures .
