A WARNING ,~ ~
If the ~ (USA models)/ . (Canada
models) brake system indicator light turns
on together with the ABS and ESC indica
tor lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function
may have failed. Functions that stabilize
t he vehicle are no longer avai lab le. This
cou ld cause the vehicle to swerve and in
crease the risk of sliding . Drive caref ully to
the nearest a uthorized Audi dea ler or oth
er qualified workshop and have the mal
function corrected.

ABS/(8) Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL).
The warning/indicator light rlB (USA mod
els)
1iJ (Canada models) will come on for a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on.
The light will go out after an automatic check
sequence is completed .
There is a malfunction in the ABS when :
- The warn ing/indi cator lig ht does not ill umi
nate when you switch the ignition on.
- T he warn ing/indi cator lig ht does not go out
after a few seconds .
- T he wa rn ing/ ind icator lig ht ill uminates
wh ile driving.
The ESC indicator light also illuminates if
there is a malfunction in the ABS . T he mes
sage
Stabilization control (ESC /AB S): Fault!

sounds.

Malfunction in the brake sy stem
If the brake war ning l igh t c:::> page 14 and the
ABS warning illuminate

a malfunction in the ABS, and there may a lso
be a malfunction in the brake system itself

Malfunction in th e ele ctronic diff erential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works together w ith the ABS. The
ABS warning light will come on if there is a malfunction in the EDL system
c:::> page 189 .
See your author ized Audi dealer as soon as
poss ible.
A WARNING
-
- I f the rlB (USA mode ls)/ [IJ (Canada
models) warning light does not go ou t,
or if it comes on while dr iving, the ABS
system is not working properly. The vehi-
cle can then be stopped only w it h the
standard brakes (without ABS). You w ill
not have the protect ion ABS prov ides.
Contact your Audi dea ler as soon as pos
sible .
-USA models: If the ~ warning light,
the:
GJ warning light and the rlB warn
ing light come on together, the rear
wheels could lock up f irst under hard
bra king. Rear wheel lock-up can ca us e
loss of vehicle control and an a ccident.
Have your vehi cle repaired immediately
by your authorized A udi dealer or a quali
fied workshop . Drive slow ly and avoid
sudden, ha rd brake applications.
- Canada models: If the brake warning

DJ warning light and the
ABS warning light

(0) Worn brake pads
EIJ Brake pads!
If the warn ing light illuminates, immediately
contact your authorized Audi dealer or quali
fied workshop to have all brake pads inspect
ed. On USA models the warning light
EIJ
comes on together with the warn ing light
1111-Both sets of brake pads on an axle
must always be replaced at the same time.
A WARNING
Driv ing with bad brakes can cause a colli
sion and serious personal injury.

EPC Electronic power control
App lies to vehicles: with gaso line engine
This warning/indicator light monitors the
electronic power control .
The ~ warning/indicator light (Electronic
Power Control) illuminates when you switch
the ignition on as a function check .
(D Tips
If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a mal
function in the engine electronics. Have
the malfunction corrected as soon as pos sible by your authorized Aud i dealer or
qualified repair facility.

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
T he Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is pa rt
of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The symbo l
¢.j lights up when the ignition is
switched on and will turn off after the engine
has started and has settled at a constant idle
speed. This indicates that the MIL is work ing
properly.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunction in the engine electronic system.
Contact your authorized Audi dea ler and have
the malfunction corrected.

!?) Engine speed limitation
lfl Engine speed maximum XXXX RPM
The eng ine speed is automatically limited to
the speed displayed in the driver information
system. This protects the engine from over
heating.
T he eng ine speed limitation deactivates once
the engine is no longer in the critical tempera
ture range and you have re leased the accelera
tor pedal once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated
by an engine control malfunction, the indica
tor light ~ also turns on. Make s ure that the
speed does not go above the speed displayed.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi
ately to have the malfunction corrected.
@ Tips
The engine speed is limited when the en
gine is cold - the full engine output is not
available . When the engine is at operating
temperature, the red area in the tachome
ter moves to a h igher RPM range.

-Light bulbs are press urized and could ex
p lo de while they are being changed caus
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights. Failure to do so could re
sult in death or serious injury.

Have the bu lb replaced or the connection
repaired by your authorized Audi Service
department .

IS Headlight range control: defective!
If the symbol illum inates, the headlig ht range
control is no long er work ing properly. Have
the system checked and repaired at your Audi
dealer.
:gD Adaptive Light
Applies to vehicles: with Adaptive Light
mil Audi adaptive light: system fault
If the indicator light turns on and this mes
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the
adaptive light system . The headlights sti ll
function .
Go to an authorized dealership to have the
headlights or the control unit for the Adaptive
Light repaired.

@.D Light/rain sensor
II Automatic headlights/automatic wiper s:
sys tem fault
If the indicator light turns on and th is mes
sage appears, the light/ra in sensor is not
functioning correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanently w ith the switch in
AUTO .
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch. You can still
control all functions that are independent of
the rain sensor through the windshield wiper
lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the prob lem corrected.
; Adaptive dampers
Appl ies to vehicles: with adaptive dampers
B Suspension: System fault! You can contin
ue driving
If the B symbo l in the display comes on, the re
i s a malfunction in the adaptive dampers.
Please go to an authorized Audi dea ler or oth
er qualified workshop to have the ma lfunction
repaired.
!- I Sport differential
Applies to vehicles: with sport d ifferent ial
Ill Sport differential: system fault
There is a malfunction with the sport differen
tial.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dealer immedi
ately to have the mal function cor rected .
Ill Sport differential: overheating
The transmission temperature has increased
significantly due to the sporty driving manner .
Drive in a less sporty manner until the tem
pe rature returns to the normal range and the
indicator light switches of.
A WARNING
Contact your author ized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop if the sport differential
i s faulty or malfunct ioning . The repair
must be performed by trained personnel
using the correct oil in order to ensure
safety.
¢¢ Turn signals
-
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Whenever you use the left II or the right B
turn signal, the indicator light blinks . When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica
tor lights flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor
mal. Carefu lly dr ive to your authorized Audi
dealer immediate ly to have the malfunction
corrected.

A WARNING
-
- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in mind
that road surfaces, especially bridges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippe ry even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F
(+5 °().
-Always remember, even if the "snow
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap
pear in the d isplay, black ice could be on
the road.
-Always reduce your speed and drive with
special care in cold weather cond itions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
(D Tips
- At temperatures below 14 °F (+ 5 °C) a
snowf lake symbol appears ahead of the
t emperature display.

- Long-term memory overview
The short-term memo ry co llects driving infor
mat ion from the time the ignition is switched
on un til it is switched off. If you continue dr iv
ing within two hours after switching the igni
tion off, the new values are included when cal
culating the current trip information.
Unlike the short-te rm memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatically. You can
select the time period for evaluating trip in
formation yourself.
F or some veh icle functions, you can access the
trip information from the temporary memory
in the line

The cu rrent fuel consumpt ion can be dis
p layed using a bar
r=;, page 26, fig. 10. The
average consumption (mpg) stored in the
short-term memory is also displayed. Electri
cal energy can be stored in the battery when
the vehicle is coasting or driving downhill (re
cuperation) . The bar will move toward
t:3 .
Efficiency prog ram
The efficiency program can help you to use
less fuel.
It evaluates driving information in
reference to fuel consumption and shows oth
er equipment influencing consumption as well
as shift recommendations.

To display the efficiency program, call up Ve
hicle functions and select the menu option
Efficiency program . If the data are deleted in
the efficiency program, those values are also
reset in trip computer .

-All stored va lues will be lost if the veh i
cle battery is disconnected.
- Fuel consumptions (average and cur
rent), range and speed are displayed in
metric units on Canadian models.
Other equipment

ment appears in the display .
Other equipment that is currently affecting
fuel consumption is listed in the efficiency
program. The display shows up to three other
items of equipment @. The equipment using
the most fuel is listed first. If more than three
items using fuel are switched on, the equip
ment that is currently using the most fuel is
displayed .
A scale @also shows the current total con
sumption of all other equipment.
Fuel economy messages

Fuel economy messages are displayed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con
ditions. If you follow these fuel economy mes
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consump
t ion of fuel. The messages appear automat i
cally and are only displayed in the efficiency
program . The fue l economy messages turn off
automat ical ly after a certa in period of time . .,.

Cylinder on demand System

four cylinders on or off, depending on the
amo unt of power needed . This action is not
fe lt by the passengers.

Basic requirements for 4 -cylinder mode
4-cy linder d rive mode is used automatically if
certain basi c req uiremen ts are fu lfi lled . T hese
i n cl ude:
-A low powe r outp ut requi rement .
- Driving i n third gear or higher.
- Engine speed between 960 and 3,500 RP M.
- A warm engine .
Odometer

T he odometer shows you how ma ny m iles
( kil ome te rs ) you have drive n. You can swi tch
t h e d is pl ay from miles to ki lomete rs and v ice
versa via t he MMI.
Upper odometer
The trip odometer shows the distanc e driven
s in ce it was last reset .
It can be u sed to meas
u re s ho rt dist ances . T he last digit indica tes
1/10 o f a mile (10 0 me ters) .
You can res et the trip odometer to zero by
pressing the Reset bu tton
@J .
Lower odometer
The lower odomete r shows the tota l number
of miles (kilometers) dr iven .
Malfunct ion message
If there is a malfunct ion in the instrument
cluster ,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer
display area . Contact your author ized Audi
dealer to have the problem corrected .

You can set the time and the date display in
the MMI. Refer to the MMI owner's manua l
for instructions.
When you open the drive r's door, the date and
time appear in the inst rument cluste r display
for 30 seconds .
Service interval display
Th e service int erval display r eminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
according ly . The display works in two stages :
Serv ice reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv ice reminder appears in the display when yo u
switch the ignition on

Afte r abo ut 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The d istance and time re
maining are updated each time the ignition is
switched on un til the date due for service is
reac hed .
Service due
W hen the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instru
ment cluster immediately after you switch the
ignit io n on . Additionally, a warn ing tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calli ng up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspection is due,
can be shown in the MMI d isplay by select ing
the service interva l disp lay in the car menu . Se

schedule can only be called up after approxi
mately 500 km.
Resetting the service interval display
Your a uthorized Audi dea le r will reset the cor
responding service sc hedule after pe rforming
the appropriate service on your veh icle . You
also have the possib ility to reset the oil
c h ange schedule after hav ing performed an
o il change according to Aud i specifications.

driven is low, the max imum per iod of one
year from one service t o the next must not
b e exceeded .

The Head-up Display projects certain warnings
or selected information from the assistance
systems* or navigation* on the windshield .
The display appears with in the driver's field of
vision.

The height of the display can be adjusted to

The speed disp lay and some of the red indica
tor lights cannot be hidden in the MMI.
Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the
MMI. The d isp lay brightness decreases auto
matically as the amount of light decreases.

the instrument illumination

To prevent scratches on the glass cover ing
the Head-up Display, do not place any ob
jects in the projection opening.

-Sunglasses with polarization filters and
unfavorable lighting conditions can af
fect the disp lay.
- A spe cial windshie ld is needed for the
Head- up Display function .
