-Support the vehicle securely with ap­
propriate stands if work is to be per­
formed underneath the vehicle;
otherw ise, there is a potential risk for
injury .
- To help prevent injury to yourself and
your passenge rs:
- Do not raise the vehicle until yo u are
sure the jack is secu rely engaged .
- Passenge rs must no t remai n in the ve­
h icle when it is jacked up .
- Ma ke sure that passengers wait in a
safe place away from the vehicle and
well away from the road and traff ic.
- Make sure ja ck position is correct, ad­
jus t as necessary and then conti nue to
raise the jack .
- Changes i n tem pera ture or load can af­
fect the height of the vehi cle.
(D Note
Do not lift the vehi cle by the s ill. Pos ition
the vehicle jac k only at the designated lift­
ing points o n the sill. Othe rwise, your vehi­
cle will be damaged .
Taking the wheel off/installing the spare
Follow these instructions step-by-step for
changing the wheel.

After yo u have loosened all wheel bo lts and
raised the vehicle
off the ground, remove and
replace the wheel as follows :

wheel cente red.

274 What do I do no w?
When removing or installing the wheel,
the rim could hit the brake rotor and dam­
age the rotor. Work carefully and have a
second person help you.
Never use the hexagonal socket in the han ­
dle of the screwdriver to loosen or t ighten
the wheel bolts.
- Pull the reversible b lade from the screw­
driver before yo u use the hexagonal
socket in the handle to turn the whee l
bo lts.
- When mounting tires with
unid irectional
tread design
make sure the tread pat­
tern is pointed the r ight way
¢page 274.
- The wheel bolts should be clea n and easy
to tu rn . Check for d irt and corrosion on
the mat ing su rfaces of both the whee l
and the h ub. Remove a ll dirt from these
su rfaces before remo unti ng the wheel.
Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern p ointed in
the right direction.
Using a spare tire with a tread pattern
intended for use in a specific direction
When using a sp are tire w ith a tread pa tte rn
i nten ded for use in a specific direc tion, p lease
note t he following:
- T he direction of rotation is marked by an a r­
row on the side of the tire.
- If the spare t ire has to be installed in the in­
c orrec t direction, use the spa re tire only
tempor arily si nce the t ire will no t be able to
achieve its op timum performance character­
istics with regard to aquaplaning, noise and
wear .
- We recommend tha t you pay particular a t­
tention to this fact during wet weather and
that you adjust your speed to matc h road
condit ions. -
Replace the flat ti re with a new one and
have it insta lled on your vehicle as soo n as
possible to resto re the hand ling advantages
of a unidirectional tire.
Notes on wheel changing
Please read t he information ¢ page 254, New
tires and replacing tires and wheels
if you a re
going to use a spa re tire which is different
from the t ires on you r vehicle.
After you change a tire:
- Check the tire pre ssure on the spare imme­
diately after installation .
- Have the wheel bolt tightening torque
c hecked with a torque wrench as soon as
possible by your author ized Audi dealer or
a qualified service stat ion.
- With steel and alloy wheel r ims, the wheel
bolts a re co rrectly tightened at a torque of
90 ft lb (120 Nm ).
- If you notice that the wheel bolts are cor ­
roded and difficult to turn while changing
a tire , they should be replaced before you
check the t ightening torque .
- Replace the flat tire w ith a new one and
have it installed on your vehicle as soon as
po ssible . Remount the wh eel cover.
Until then , dr ive with e xtra care and at re­
duced speeds.

which were facto ry installed, then be

The indiv idual circuits are protected by safety
fuses. The fuses are located under the steer­
ing wheel beh ind a cover and in the left side of
the engine compartment .
_&. WARNING
-
Do not repa ir fuses and never replace a
blown fuse with one that has a higher amp
rating. This can cause damage to the elec­
trica l system and a fire.
(D Note
- If there are multip le fuse values in a cell
in the follow tables, for examp le
5/10/20, it is because of equipment-re­
lated differences. Replace the burned
fuse with an identical new one .
-If a new fuse should burn out again
shortly after you have installed it, have
the electrical system checked by your au­
thorized Audi dealer or qualified repair
facility as soon as possible .

Safety compliance sticker
T he safety complianc e sticker is your assur­
ance th at your new veh icle complies with all
applicable Fede ra l Motor Vehicle S afety
Standards which were in effec t at the time the
vehicle was manufactured . You can find this
sticker on the door jamb on the driver's side.
It shows the month and year of production
and t he vehicle identificat io n number of your
vehicle (perfo ration) as well as the Gross Veh i­
cle Weight Rating (GVWR) a nd the Gross Ax le
Weight Rating (GAWR) .
High voltage warning label
The high voltage warning label is located in
th e engine compartment next to the engine
hood re lease . The spark ignit ion system com­
plies with the Canadian standard ICES-002.
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rat ing (GAWR) for
front and rear are listed on a sticker on the
doo r jamb on t he d river's side .
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rat ing includes the
weight of the basic vehicle plus full fuel tank,
o il and coo la nt, plus maximum load, which in­

and repairs which can be carried out by vehicle
owners.

repairs and adjustments to engine and trans ­
miss ion pa rts which an owner can perform .
Maintenance, adjustments and repa irs usua lly
require special tools, testing devices and oth­
er equipment avai lab le to specially trained
workshop personnel in order to assure proper
performance, reliab ility and safety of the vehi­
cle and its many systems .
Improper ma intenance, adjustments and re ­
pa irs can impair the operation and reliab ility
of your vehicle and even void your vehicle war­ ranty. Therefo re , proof of servic ing in accord­
ance w it h the ma intenance sched ule may be a
condition for upholding a poss ible warranty
claim made within the warran ty period.
Above all, operational safety can be adve rsely
affected, creating unnecessary risks for you
and your passengers.
If in doubt about any serv icing, have it done
by your author ized Audi dealer or any other
p roperly equipped and qualified workshop .

ber of procedures which can be performed on
you r vehicle with ordinary too ls, shou ld the
need arise and trained personnel be unavaila­
ble. Before performing any of these proce­
dures, always thoroughly read all of the app li­
cable text and ca refully follow the instruc­
tions given. Always rigorously obse rve the

ing on the vehicle . Always follow com­
monly accepted safety pract ices and gen­

- Do not attempt any of the maintenance ,
checks or repairs descr ibed on the fol­
lowing pages if you are not fu lly fam iliar
with these or other procedures with re­
spect to the vehicle, or are uncertain how

- The engine compartment of any motor
veh icle is a potentially hazardous area.
Never reach into the area around or
touch the rad iator fan. It is temperature
controlled and can sw itch on suddenly -
even when the engine is off . The radiator
fan switches on automatical ly when the
coo lant re aches a certain temperature
and will cont inue to run until the coo lant
temperature drops .
- Always sw itch off the ignition before any­
one gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your veh icle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work under­
neath the vehicle. The jack s upplied with
the vehicle is not adequate for this pu r­
pose and cou ld collapse causing serious
personal injury.
- If you must work underneath the vehicle
with the wheels on the ground, a lways
make sure the vehicle is on level ground,
that the wheels are a lways securely
b locked and that the engine cannot be
started .
- Always make sure the transmission se ­
lecto r lever (automatic transmission) is
