Rem oving a wip er blad e
-Bring the windshield wipers to the service position

Clean your wiper blades regularly with a windshield washer solution
to prevent streaking . If the bla des are very dirty, for example with
insects, carefully clean the b lades with a sponge or a soft brush.
I f the wiper b lades begin to s treak the windshie ld, this could be
caused by residue left on the windshield by automatic car washes.
Fill the windshield washer container with a special solution avail ­
able at your authorized Audi deale r to remove the residue .

• Always loosen blades which are frozen to the windshield before
operat ing wipers.
• Do not use gaso line, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on
or near the wiper blades .
• Do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.

Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic car washes affect the
c leanabi lity of the windshield .•
Mirrors
Rear view mirror
When the ignition is on, the interior mirror will darken automatically
depending on the amount of light striking the mirror (such as head­
lights shining into the vehic le from the rearl. The mirror will retu rn
to the origina l state (anti -glare off) when you move the manual gear­
shift/gear selector lever into
Reverse or when you turn on the inte ­
rior lights.
[ i ] Tips
The automatic anti-g lare feature on the mirror will not operate prop­
erly if the light shining on the inside mirror is b locked by other
objects. •

Folding both outside mirrors in flush

The mirror surfaces a re heated whenever you switch on the rear
window defogger in response to the outside temperature.
We recommend folding the outside mirro rs flat to help when
parking your vehicle or when maneuvering in very tight spaces.
Tilting the pas senger's side out side mirr or
When you move the selector lever into R (Reverse), the mirror on the
front passenger's doo r (knob turned to@ => fig. 80) will til t slight ly downward
. This make is easier for you to see the curb when you are
b acking in to a parking space.
The mirror returns to its initial pos ition as soon as reverse gear is
disengaged and vehicle speed is above about 9 mph (15 km/hl. The
m irror also returns to its ini tia l p osition if the switch is move d to the
driver's outside mirror

Memory setting for the outside mirrors
When the seat position is saved in memory, the posit ion of t he
outside mirrors is saved at the same t ime =>

Automatic anti -glare for the outside mirror s
The outside mirrors dim at the same time as the inside mirror . When
the ignition is switched on, the mirrors automatical ly dim
depending on the amount of light str ik ing the mirrors (such as head­
lights shining into the vehicle from the rearl.
When you turn on th e interior l ight, or when y ou m ove the se lect or
lever into
R (Reverse), the anti -g lare function stops and the mirrors
r eturn to their original c ondi tion (n ot dar ken ed).

• Curve d (i. e . convex) mirror sur faces increase your field o f view.
Remember that vehic les or other objects wil l appear smaller and
farther away than when seen in a flat mi rror . If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of fol lowing vehic les when changing lanes, you
cou ld estimate incorrectly and cause an accident .
• I f the mirror housing is moved unintentional ly (for example,
while park ing your vehicle), then you must fi rst fo ld the mirror elec ­
trically . Do not readjust the mirror housing manually. You could
damage the motor which controls the mirror .
[ i ] Tip s
• I f there shou ld be a malfunction in the elect rical system, you can
st ill adjust the outsid e m irrors by pressing the edge of t he m irror .

• Never adjust the driver's or front passenger's seat while the
vehicle is moving. If you do this while the vehicle is moving, you
will be out of position . Always adjust the driver's or front
passenger's seat when the vehicle is not moving .
• Be careful when adjusting the seat height . Check to see that no
one is in the way, or serious injury could result!
• Because the seats can be electrically adjusted with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattended in the vehicle. Unsu­
pervised use of the electric seat adjustments may cause serious
injury. •
Upper thigh support
The adjustable upper thigh support provides optimal
support for the upper thigh when driving .

- To extend the upper thigh support, push the switch
forward.
- To make the upper thigh support shorter, push the switch
to the rear.
& WARNING
Never adjust the seat cushion while the vehicle is moving . If you
adjust your seat while the vehicle is moving, you are out of posi­
tion. Always adjust the seat cushion when the vehicle is not
moving. •

Massage function
- Press the switch to turn on the massage function.
The massage function runs for about 10 minutes. The passenger's
back is massaged by continuous adjustment of the lumbar support .

The curvature of the lumbar support can also be adjusted during the
Massage to make it more or less aggressive. This varies the intensity
of the
Massage to the level desired by the occupant .
Once the massage function stops after about 10 minutes, the
lumbar support automatically returns to the position in which it was
last set.
[ i] Tips
Th e massag e function can be int errupted at any tim e by pressing
the switch. The lumbar support remains in its current position. •

Rear window shelf
You can place li gh t a rticles of cl othing on the re ar
w indow shelf behind the sea tbac k.
& WARNING
When dr iv ing , do not leave any hard objects on the rear w indow
s helf or allow your pet to sit on the shelf . They could be come a
hazard for vehicle oc cup ants in the event of sudden bra king or a
c rash .
[ i ] Tips
• A vent slot is located between t he shel f and the rear w indow . Do
not block the vent with any items you may place on the rear window
she lf.
• Do not place bulky items on the rear window shelf as they could
restrict or block the driver's vision in the rear view mirro r.•

construction and function of the seat.

ignition is switched off or the ignition key is removed . Never leave

Turning the air conditioning on
- Press [O N/OFF], or
- Press [AUTO

Turning the air conditioning off
- Press [ ON/OFF] to turn the air conditioner off and block
outside air from entering the vehicle.
The air conditioner turns back on if you press one of the control buttons or the contro l knob.

Resi du al he at: With the ignition turned off, you can activate the
residual heat funct ion by pressing the [
ON/OFF] button. The
residual heat from the coo lant can be used to heat the vehic le inte ­
rior. The residua l heat function is turned off automatically after
30
minutes. •
Automatic mode [AUTO I
The automatic mode is the standar d setting for all
seasons.
Turning on AUTO
- Select temperature between 60
°F (+ 16 °C) and 84 °F
(+28 °Cl.
- Press [AUTO j ~ page 116, fig. 129.
Automatic operation ensures constant temperatures in the interior
and dehumidifies the air inside the vehicle. Air temperature, vo lume
and dist ribu tion are controlled automatical ly to reach or maintain

the desired interior temperature as quickly as possible. Fluctuations
in exter ior temperature and the effects of temperature from the
position of the sun are compensated for automatica lly.
This operating mode works only in the adjustable temperature range , from 60 °F ( + 16 °C) to 84 °F ( +28 °C). If a temperature below
60 °F
(+ 16 °C) is selected, LO appears in the disp lay. At temperatures
above 84 °F (+28 °C),
HI is displayed . A t both extreme settings,
climate control runs continuously at maximum cooling or heating
power . There is no temperature regulation .•
Setting the temperature
Separate temperatures can be selected for the driver's
and fr ont passenger's side.

If the climate control system is operating in cooling mode, air flows
primarily from the outlets in the center console and in the door
pillars . To achieve adequate cooling, you should never close the
outlets completely. •
Using climate controls economically
Using the climate controls prudently can help save fuel.
When you use the air conditioner, engine power is reduced
and fuel consumption increases. To save fuel, you should
use the air conditione r only when necessary. Also please
n ote the following points:
- If you want to save fuel, activate ECON.
If you are going to drive with the windows open, use
ECON.
W For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use, you also reduce the amount
of pollutants emitted into the air.•

Solar blower fan /solar roof
With sufficient sunlight, the blower fan continues to
operate with solar energy to bring in fresh air after the
ignition has been switched off.
T he fan motor is operated by solar energy through the solar roof
after the ignition is turned off. Please make certain that vents ©
and © are open to achieve optimal ventilation=>

The ventilation operates only with the sunroof closed or in the tilted
position .
If the vehicle was switched off in the recircu lation mode, the air
conditioning automatically switches to fresh air operation.
Solar operation is not activated at low outside temperatures. •
Windshield defogging/defrosting

Windshield defogger /defroster @
The windshield defogger removes humidity from the
windshield.

The indicator light in the button illuminates when the windshield
defogger is turned on.
With a cold engine at outside temperatures below 41 °F (+5 °C) and
in !AUTO
l operation, the windshield defogger turns on automati ­
cally. Depending on outside temperature, the windshield is heated _,.

for a maximum of 4 minutes. The temperature for the climate
control must be selected so that it is operating in the heating mode.
When selecting the program setting
@, the windshield
defogger/defroster is switched on automatically at outside temper ­
atures below 41 °F (+5 °C). Depending on outside temperature, the
windshield is heated from 2 up to a maximum of 4 minutes.
The windshield defogger is deactivate d in ECON mode .
[ i ] Tips
• If a crack forms in the windshie ld due to a foreign object (e .g . a
stone chip), the defogger/defroster is not turned on . This prevents
t he crack from spreading.
• We recommend that you locate an Audi dealership immediately
to have the windshield replaced. •

The rear window defogger works only when the engine is running .
The indicator light in the butto n illuminates when the rear win dow
defogger is turned on . T
he rear window defogger will switch off automatically after a short
t ime . The time the rear window defogger remains on wi ll vary
depending on the outside temperature.
At very low outside temperatures, the rear window defogger can be switched on continuously by push ing the
QW bu tton for more than 2
seconds. This remains stored unti l the ignition is switched off .
A rear window defogger that was switched on also remai ns stored
for 15 minutes after the ignition is switched off . If the engine is
r estar ted within these 15 minutes, the rear w indow defogger is also
activated, depending on outside temperature. With a vehic le that is
par ked for a short time, the rear window defogger does not need to
be manua lly activated again.
