The sun visors for the driver and passenger can be released from their
brackets and turned toward the doors~ fig . 60

The mirror light switches on when the cover over the vanity mirror@
opens.
There is a shade between the driver's and passenger's sun visors that
can be used to cover the gap above the rearview mirror .
Two-part vanity mirror*
When you slide the cover@~ fig. 61 upward, there is a mirror with
high magnification . When you slide the cover@ downward, there is
a mirror with normal magnification. The mirror light also switches on
when the covers slide up or down .•

Clear vision
Mirrors
Rear view mirror
When the ignition is on, t he interior m irro r will darken automatically
depending on t he amo unt of light strik ing the m irro r (such as head­
lights shin ing into the veh icle from the rear) . The mirro r will retu rn to
the o rigi na l state (anti -glare off) when yo u move the manua l gear­
shift/gear se lector lever into
Reverse or w he n you turn o n the in te rior
lights .
& WARNING
Broken glass of automatic dimming mirror can cause electrolyte
fluid l eakage . Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes, and respira­
tory system .
• Repeated or prolonged exposure to electrolyte can cause irrita ­
tion to the respiratory system , especially among people with
asthma or other respiratory conditions . Get fresh air immediately
by leaving the vehicle or , if that is not possible , open windows and
doors all the way .
• If electrolyte gets into the eyes , flush them thoroughly with
large amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes; medical
attention is recommended.
• If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected area with clean
water for at least 15 minutes and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recommended. Thoroughly
wash affected clothing and shoes before reuse.
• If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse mouth with water
for at least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed
to do so by medical professional. Get medi cal attention immedi­
ately.

T he au tomati c anti-glare feature on the mi rro r will not operate prop­
erly if the lig ht shini ng on the inside mir ror is blocked by othe r
objec ts. •

Rear seat lumbar support
The outer rear seats have a lumbar support.
Adjusting curvature

- Push the switch shell forward to increase t he curvature.
- Push the switch shell to the rear to decrease the curvature .
Height adjustment
- Push the switch shell up to move the curvature higher.
- Push the switch shell down to move the curvature lower .
The lumbar support is particularly effective in supporting the nat ural
curvature of the spine so that the sea ting position is more comfort ­
ab le over long distances. •
Rear window shelf
You can place light articles of clothing on the rear window
shelf behind the seatback.
& WARNING
When driving , do n ot leave any hard objects on the rear window
s helf or a llow y our pet to sit on the shelf . They c ould be come a
haza rd for vehicle occup ants in the event of sudden b raking or a
c rash .
[ i ] Tips
• A vent slot is located between the shelf and the rear window. Do
not block the vent with any items you may place on the rear window
shelf.
• Do not place bu lky items on the rear window shelf as they could
restr ict or block the driver's vis ion in the rear view mirror. •

Deactivating
- Press the button again . T he indicator light o n the b utton
goes out.
The system works at speeds faster tha n 19 mph (30 km/h) .

• Imp roper reliance on the side assist system can cause collisions
and seriou s per sonal injury:
- Never rely only on s ide ass ist when changing lanes.
- Alway s che ck rear view mirror s to m ake sure that it i s safe to
change lanes.
• Side a ssist cannot detect all vehicles under all condition s­
danger of accident!
• Side a ssi st cannot detect vehicle s in time to alert you when
they approach from beh ind at very high speed, or fall drop back
very quickly .
• The radar sen sor's
v is ion can be reduced or entirely blocked by
rain , snow, and heavy spray . This can result in side as sis t not
adequately detecting vehicle s or , in some cases, not detecting
them at a ll. Alway s keep an eye on the dir ection you are traveling
and the rele vant area around the vehicle.
• Please note that side assist indicates there are approaching
vehicles , or vehicles in you r blind spot, only after you r vehicle has
reached a driving speed of at lea st 19 mph (30 km/h).
• Side assist signal doe s not work around t ight corners (turning
radius less than 328 feet or 100 m ).
• Side assist is no replacement for the driver 's full attention . The
driver alone is respon sible for lane change s and s imilar driving
maneuvers. Always keep an eye on the direction you are traveling
and the relevant area around the vehicle.

• T o ensure that you do not adversely affe ct s ide as sist , do not block
the area on the rear b umper where the radar sensors are located with
fo reign objects (such as st ic kers or b icycle ra cks).
• Make s ure that the signal light on the o utside mi rror is not
bloc ked by stic ke rs or othe r items.

Messages in instrument cluster display
If side assist turns off automatically, the indicator light on the button
w ill go out and you w ill see a message in the instrument cluster
display:

that yo u do not adversely affect the way side assist functions, foreign
objects (such as st ickers or bicycle racks) should not be attached to
the area on t he rear bumper whe re the sensors are located. If side
ass ist f unctions are adve rsely affec ted, you will see this mes sage in
the instrument cluster d isp lay. Remove anyth ing that may be
blo ckin g the sensors .
If no vehicle is detected for a longer period of t ime w hile driving, side
assist w ill also sw itch

If the re is a tempo rary p ro blem (such as the vehicle 's ba tte ry c har ge

Safety tips
The s ide assist detection may be limited when driving aro und narrow
s tr eet corners, on hilly st ree ts, an d un der poo r wea ther condit ions. It is possib
le that the radar sensors may also detect other objects,
s uch a s high or s taggere d guardrails.
Side assis t does not measure ac tual lane wid th . The system assumes
a fixed la ne w idth . Detection in the left and rig ht lanes is based on
th is assu m ed lane w id th . W hen drivi ng on nar row ro ads or w hen
driving to the left or r ight of the cente r of a t ravel lane, it is possib le
th at vehicles will be de te ct ed tha t are
no t in the la ne next to t he lane
you are us ing.

Rear-view camera (rear view)
The rear-view camera picture~ page 166, fig . 183 appears on the
MM I d is play as a mir ror im age. The re ar-view came ra pic ture has

lf your vehicle is close to an obstacle , th e visual d istance d isplay also

If the visual dis play is shown on the MMI display and you press the

Sensors have dead spaces in which objects cannot be detected .
Be especially careful to check for small children and animals
before backing up. Small children and animals will not always be
detected by the sensors .
• The Audi parking system is not a substitute for being careful
and alert when backing up. Be especially careful during parking
and similar maneuvers . Always watch where you are driving and
make sure that nothing is in the way.
• Remember that low obstacles which have already been
signaled may pass below the system's sensing zone when the
vehicle is backing up. The fact that the signal stops does not mean
that you have cleared the obstacle. When the signal stops, impact is imminent . Objects such as trailer hitches, chains, narrow posts
or fences covered by a thin layer of paint may not always be
detected by the sy stem. They can still damage your vehicle
without warning.
• Always make sure that the volume and frequency of the chimes
is adjusted so that you can easily hear the acoustic distance signal
even if the radio is playing, the air-conditioner blower is on High
or there is a high level of outside no ise.
- Check the settings whenever someone else has driven the
vehicle before you.

The red line in the MMI Disp lay~ fig. 188 indicates the d ista nce you
should maintain from an obstacle, when park ing. If an obstacle is
located at road level, you can ap proach the obstacle unti l the red line
touches the obstacle ( 1.3
ft, or 40 cm, distance). On the other hand,
if a n obstacle is not located at road level (t he b umper of a vehi cle, for
example), you should not approach this obstacle unti l the red line
to uch es the obsta cle.
For instance, if you back up toward another vehicle , it will appear as
t hough t he guide hel p lines and s urf aces are bein g pushed over the
vehicle behind you~ fig. 188. I n this example, it can be recogn ized
in th e MM I Display that the red line exactly touches the bumpe r of t he
vehicle be hind you. Indeed, however, t he red line @ ~ fig. 189 does
not touch the bumper, but has rather been pushed underneath the
bu mper. The actual d istance (dashed line@) to t he ve hicle beh ind
you is meanwhile less than 1.3 ft (40 cm). Your veh icle b umper must
a lso be taken into con siderat ion fo r the distance ~& .
& WARNING
• Please note that objects not touching the ground can appear to
be further away than they really are (for example , the bumper of
a parked vehicle, a trailer hitch , or the rear of a truck ). In thi s case,
you should not use the guide help lines to measure distance -
danger of accident! .,

outside mirror or a corner of your vehicle does not collide with any

Towing hitch
For vehicles with a tra ile r hitc h installed according to factory spec ifi­
cat ions, the rear acoust ic parking senso rs are not activated when the
vehicle is pu t in r everse gear while an e lec trica l connec tion to t he
trai ler socket* is established. No distance ale rt occurs in the rear
~ page 161. T he re ar-view camera picture ~ page 164 is di splayed
without o rientation lines and without blue surfaces .•
