& WARNING
Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can lead sudden tire
failure, los s of control, collision, serious personal injury or even
death.
• When the warning symbol appears in the instrument
cluster , stop and inspect the tires.
• Incorrect tire pressure and/or underinflation can cause
increased tire wear and can affect the handling of the vehicle and
stopping ability.
• Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can also lead to
sudden tire failure, including a blowout and sudden deflation,
causing loss of vehicle control.
• The dr iver is responsible for the correct tire pressures for all
tires on the vehicle. The applicable pressure values are located on
a sticker on the driver 's side 8-pillar or on the inside of the fuel
filler flap .

• Only when all tires on the vehicle are filled to the correct pres­
sure, the tire pressure monitoring* system can work correctly .
• The use of incorrect tire pressure values can lead to accidents or
other damage. Therefore it is essential that the driver observe the
specified tire pressure values for the tires and the correct pres­
sures for the function of the tire pressure monitoring system*.
• Always inflate tires to the recommended and correct tire pres­
sure before driving off .
• Driving with underinflated tires bend more , letting them get
too hot resulting in tread separation, sudden tire failure and loss
of control.
• Excessive speed and/overloading can cause heat build-up,
sudden tire failure and loss of control.
• If the tire pressure is too low or too high, the tires will wear
prematurely and the vehicle will not handle well.
• If the tire is not flat and you do not have to change a wheel
immediately, drive at reduced speed to the nearest service station
to check the tire pressure and add ai r as required.

Inco rrect wheel al ignment
Incorrect wheel alignment can cause excessive tire wear, impairing
the safety of the vehicle . If tires show excessive wear, have the wheel
alignment checked by an authorized Audi dealer or qualified wo rk­
shop .
All Wheel Drive
Vehicles with quattro ® must always have tires of the same s ize,
constr uction and tread type . For details see~
page 257.

• Never drive a vehicle when the tread on any tire i s worn down
to the wear ind icators .
• Worn tire s are a s afety hazard, they do not grip w ell on wet
roads and increa se your risk of "h ydroplaning" and lo ss of control.
• Always keep chemical s that can cause tir e damage, su ch as
grea se , oil , gasoline and brake flu id away from tires .
• Tires age even if they ar e not b eing used and can fail suddenly ,
especially at high speeds. Tires that are more than 6 year s old can
only be used in an emergency and then with special care and at
lower speeds .
• Never mount u sed tir es on your vehicle if you are not sure of
their "previous history. " Old used tires m ay have been damaged
even though the damage cannot be seen that can lead to sudden
tire failure and loss of vehicle control. •

If you install rims, which do not have the sensors, or have sensors

Always check your tire pressure monito ring system* indicator afte r
re plac ing one or mo re tires on your vehicle. If the tire press ure m oni­
to ring system* indicator flashes, or is on, your system is not working
pro perl y. Yo ur repla ceme nt tire might be incomp atible with your t ire
pressure monitoring system*, or some component of the tire pres­
sure mon itor ing system * may be damaged.
& WARNING
• Using incorrect or unmatched tires and / or wheels or improper
tire and wheel combinations can lead to loss of cont rol, collision

• Always use tires, rims and wheel bolts that meet the specifica­
tions of original fa ctory-in stalled tires or other combination s that
have been specifically appro ved by the vehicle manufacturer.

type, size (rolling circumference ) and the same tr ead pattern.
Driving with different t ires reduces vehicle handling and can lead
to a lo ss of control.
• If the spare ti re is not the same as the tires that are mounted
on the vehicle - for example with w inter tires - only use the spare
tire fo r a sho rt pe riod of t ime and drive with extra care. Refit the
normal road wheel as soon as safely possible.
• Never drive faster than the ma ximum speed for which the tires
on your vehicle are rated because tires that are driven faster than
their rated speed can fail suddenly .
• Overloading tire s cause heat build-up, sudden tire failure,
including a blowout and sudden deflation and loss of control.
• Temperature grades apply to tires that are properly inflated
and not over or underinflated.
• For technical reasons it is not always possible to use wheels
from other vehicles - in some c ases not even wheel s from the same
vehicle model.
• If you install wheel trim discs on the vehicle wheels , make sure
that the air flow to the brakes is not blocked. Reduced airflow to
the brakes can them to overheat , increasing stopping distance s
and causing a collision.
• Run flat tires may only be u sed on vehicles th at were equipped
with them at the factory. The vehicle must have a chassis designed
fo r run flat tires and a factor y-in stalled tire pres sure monitoring
system* that indicates a loss of tire pre ssure. Incorrect use of run
flat tires can lead to vehicle damage or accident s. Check with an
authorized Audi dealer or tire specialist to see if your vehicle can
be equipped with run flat tires . If run flat tires are used , they must
be installed on all four wheels. Mixing tire types is not permitted . ..,_

• For techn ica l reasons, it is not generally poss ible to use the wheel
rims from other vehicles. This can hold true for whee ls of the same
vehicle type.
• If the spare tire is different from the tires that you have mounted
on your vehicle (for example w inter tires or wide profile tires), then
use the spare tire for a short period of time only and drive with extra
care . Replace the flat tire with the tire match ing the others on your
vehicle as soon as possible.
• If you should put different wheels and tires on your vehicle (e.g.
winter wheels and tires), you must be certain that the wheels and
tires are compatib le with the tir e pressure monito ring system*.
Otherwise the system will register a malfunction and a fault message
w ill be displayed . For more info rmation, contact your Audi dealer .

• When install ing new tires, be careful not to damage the valves or
tire pressure monitoring system* sensors.
• Never drive without the valve stem cap. The valves could get
damaged .
• If the sensors must be replaced, then the valve must also be
replaced at the same time.

All passenger car tires must conform to Federal Safety Requirements
in addition to these grades.
Tread wear
The tread wear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate
of the tir e when tested under controlled conditions on a specified
government test course.
For example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one half (11/2)
times as well on the government course as a tire graded 100.
The relative performance of tires depends upon the actua l conditions
of their use, however, and may depart significantly from the norm
due to variations in driving habits, service practices and differences in
road characte ristics and climate .
Traction
The traction grades, from highest to lowest, are AA, A, Band C. Those
grades represent the tire's ability to stop on wet pavement as
measured under con trolled conditions on specified government test
surfaces of asphalt and concrete . A tire marked C may have poor trac­
tion performance =>& .
Temperature
The temperature grades are A (the highest), B, and C, representing
the tire's resistance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissi­
pate heat when tested under controlled conditions on a specified
indoor laboratory test wheel.
Susta ined high temperature can cause the materia l of the tire to
degenerate and reduce tire life, and excessive temperature can lead
to sudden tire failure=>& .
The grade C corresponds to a level of performance which all
passenger car tires must meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle

In order to minimize the occurrence of impact damage to the tires of
your vehicle, we recommend that you observe the following precau­
tions:
• Always maintain recommended inflation pressures. Check your
tire pressure every 2,000 miles (3 ,000 km) and add air if necessary.
• Drive carefully on roads with potholes, deep gullies or ridges. The
impact from driving through or over such obstacles can damage your
tires. Impact with a curb may also cause damage to your tires.
• After any impact, immediately inspect your tires or have them
inspected by the nearest authorized Audi dealer. Replace a damaged
tire as soon as possible .
• Inspect your tires every 2,000 miles (3,000 km) for damage and
wear . Damage is not always easy to see . Damage can lead to loss of
air and underinflation, which could eventually cause tire failure. If
you believe that a tire may have been damaged, replace the tire as
soon as possible.
• These tires may wear more quickly than others .
• Please also remember that, while these tires deliver responsive
handling, they may ride less comfortably and make more noise than
other choices.
Reduced performance in winter/cold season
conditions
All tires are designed for certain purposes. The low aspect ratio, ultra high performance tires originally installed on your vehicle are
intended for maximum dry and wet road performance and handling.
They are not suitable for cold, snowy or icy weather conditions. If you
drive under those circumstances, you should equip your vehicle with
all-season or winter tires, which offer better traction under those
conditions . We suggest you use the recommended snow or all-season
tires specified for your vehicle, or their equivalent.

Tire pressure monitoring system

General notes .. '
Each tire, including the spare (if provided) , should be checked
monthly when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recom­
mended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire
inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size
than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure
label, you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for
those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire
pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pres ­
sure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under­
inflated . Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates,
you should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate
them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure . Under­
inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may
affect the vehicle's handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire mainte­
nance, and it is the driver's responsibility to maintain correct tire
pressure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger
illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indi­
cator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The
TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure
telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will
flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
start-ups as long as the malfunction exists .
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not
be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the instal-..,_

lation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that
prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS
malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on
your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and
wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly .•

Introduction
The tire pressure monitoring system monitors air pres­
sure in all four road wheels and the spare tire* while the
vehicle is moving.
As soon as the tire pressure monitoring system senses a significant
loss of air pressure in one or several tires, text messages and yellow
symbols appear in the instrument cluster display to alert the driver.
The
1warning light in the instrument cluster comes on when the tire
is significantly underinflated
=> page 17.
The warning light
L also illuminates in the case of a system malfunc­
tion.
The system continuously receives radio signals from sensors located
inside each tire.
Be aware that tire pressure is also dependent on the temperature of
the tire. For every 18 °F (10 °C) increase in tire temperature, tire pres­
sure increases by about 1.5 psi (0.1 bar). The tire warms up while the
vehicle is moving and tire pressure rises. So you should adjust tire
pressure only when the tires are
cold, when the temperature of the
tires is roughly the same as the ambient air temperature.
In order to keep the tire pressure monitoring system properly cali­
brated, tire pressure on all four tires and on the spare tire* should be
checked at regular intervals, adjusted if necessary and saved in the
proper setting (recommended pressure)=>
page 330.
The tire pressure is shown on the tire pressure label. On USA vehicles,
the tire pressure label is located on the driver's side B-pillar. On
Canada vehicles, the tire pressure label is located either on the

driver's side B-pillar or inside the fuel filler flap. The tire pressure
label lists the recommended cold tire inflation pressures for the
vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and the tires that were on
your vehicle at the time it was manufactured. For recommended tire
pressures for normal load conditions, please see chapter
=> page 310.

the MMI
=> page 329.

• When the tire pressure monitoring system warning light is lit,
one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. You
should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate
them to the proper pressure as indicated on the vehicle's tire pres­ sure label =>
page 310. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under­
inflation also is likely to impair the vehicle's handling and stop­
ping ability.
• Do not adjust tire pressure when tire temperature is excessive.
This could lead to serious tire damage and even cause the tire to
burst, with the additional danger of an accident.

Driving with under-inflated tires reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread
life.

cold and set to the recommended inflation pressure as specified on

Current ti re pressures are shown in green and yellow numbers. The
meaning of the colors is as follows:
• Green:
If current tire pressure and the specified pressure are
approximately the same, the tire pressure is shown in green .
• Yellow: If current tire pressure is too low with respect to specified
pressure, the tire pressure is shown in yellow.

• During the learning period, tire pressure and tire temperature are
not displayed. Horizontal lines--,-- are displayed for pressure and
temperature .
• Th e tire pressure is shown on the label located eithe r on the
dr iver's side B·pillar (visible when the door is open) or inside the fuel

Storing tire pressures
Correct storage of specified pressure is the basic require­
ment for reliable tire pressure monitoring.
In order for the tire pressure monitoring system to operate
appropriately, you have to re-save the specified pressures
whenever you adjust tire pressure, for example when the load
condition of your vehicle changes . Proceed as follows:
Corr ecting tir e pr essure
- Check the pressure in the tires (including the spare t ire*) .
- Adjust air pressure as needed in accordance with t he infor -
mation on the label located e ither on the driver's side B ­
pillar (visible when the door is open), inside the fuel filler
flap and additionally in the manual.
Saving tire p ressures
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the [
CAR] function button .
- Select
Systems in the CAR menu .
- Select
Tire pressure mon itoring .

All pressure warning indicators in the display will be canceled.
Following each intentional change in specified pressures, tire pres­
sures must be resaved . After the
pressures are saved, the tire pressure monitoring system
measures the c urrent tire pressures and saves them as the new spec­
ified pressures .

• The tire pressure is shown on the tire pressure label. On USA vehi­
cles, the tire pressure label is located on the driver's side B-pillar. On
Canada veh icles, the tire pressure label is located either on the
driver's side B-pillar or inside the fuel filler flap . The tire pressure
label lists the recommended cold t ire inflation pressures for the
vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and the tires that were on

When you change a wheel, the new tire must be initial ­
ized.

Replacing a fuse
A problem in the electrical system may be caused by a
blown fuse.

- Locate the fuse which belongs to the component which
failed.
- Switch off the ignit ion and the electrical component
affected . - Carefu
lly pry the face cover off the instrument panel using
the ignit ion key or a screwdriver==> fig. 2 76 .
- Re move the plast ic cl ip © from i ts re taine r in the face
cover=> fig. 2 77, place i t over t he ques tiona ble fuse and
remove the f use .
- Rep lace a blown fuse (re cog niz able by the m elte d m etal
s tri p inside) wit h a fuse of the
same amp erag e.
T he ind ividu al c ircui ts are protec ted by fuses. The f use panels wi th
the fuses are located on the left and right front faces of the instru­
ment pane l beh ind a cover and in the lef t an d righ t storage area s in
the luggage compartment.
Th ere is a plastic clip@ in the cover on the left side of the instrument
pane l, which ca n be used to remove the f uses . The crank @ is used for
eme rgency operation of the power roof *. Yo u will also find a label o n
both cove rs in the instrument panel wit h the fuse layout © for the
co rresponding fuse panel.
& WARNING
Never replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating.
• A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electr ical
part and cau se a fire.

• O n no account s houl d fuses be repaired (e .g. patched up with tin
foil o r wire) as th is may cause se rious damage elsewhe re in t he elec­
trical circ uit or cause fire .
• If a fuse blows repeatedly, do not keep replacing i t. Instead, have

For your safety, we recommend that you hove your autho ­
rized Audi dealer replace burned out bulbs for you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more difficult to replace veh icle
light bu lbs since in many cases, other parts of the car must first be
removed before you are able to get to the bulb. This applies especially
to the light bulbs in the front of your car which you can only reach
through the engine compartment.

Sheet metal and bu lb holders can have sharp edges that can cause
serious cuts, and parts must be correctly taken apart and then prop- .,
