Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) >
The Ma lfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is part of the On-Board D iag­
nostic (OBD II) system . T he symbol lights up when the ignition is
turned on and will turn off after the engine has started and has
sett led at a constan t idle speed. Th is indicates that the MIL is working
properly .
The warning light illuminates when there is a malfunction in the
engine electron ic system. Contact your authorized Audi dealer and
have the malfunction corrected .
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also cause the MIL light to
illuminate::::;,

Safety belts~
This warning/indicator light reminds you to put on your
safety belt.
Th e 4,.. warning/ind icator light ill uminates when the igni tion is
switched on to remind the driver and any front passenger to put on
the safety belt. Additionally , an acoustic warning (gong) will a lso
sound .

Adaptive Air Suspension --1""::)
The warning/indicator light .... illuminates, when the jacking mode
has been activated::::;, page 179. This warn ing/i ndicator light has the
following functions: •
It illuminates for a few seconds after the ignition is turned on as
function check and then goes out.
• If the warning/ind icator light illuminates steadi ly, there is a
system fault in the Adaptive A ir Suspens ion. A system fault can result
in limited ride comfort and
low ground clearance. The fault should be
corrected as soon as possible by an authorized Audi dealer.
• If the warning/indicator light flashes, you should not drive the
vehicle . The flashing wa rning/ind icator light points to an extreme
H igh level. A very
pronounced lifting of the veh icle (extreme High
level) can resu lt, for examp le, when a heavy load is removed from the
vehicle . As soon as the level has returned to normal, the
warning/indicator light stops flashing, and you can drive away.
• If the warning/ind icator light flashes in conjunction with the~
wa rning/indicator light, you shou ld not drive off immediate ly in o rder
to prevent damage to the underbody . The two warning/indicator
lights flashing together points to an extreme Low level. A very
pronounced lowering of the veh icle (extreme Low level) can result,
for examp le, from a heavy load. As soon as the level has returned to
normal, the warning/indicator lights stop flash ing, and you can drive
away .

If the warning/ind icator light flashes in conjunction with the~
warning/ind icator light, you should not drive the vehicle because low ­
lying vehicle parts can bottom out as you drive over uneven ground
and be damaged as a result .•
Adaptive Air Suspension~
The~ symbol illuminates fo r a few seconds after you have switched
on the ignition to indicate
reduced ground clearance when the
dynamic mode is activated and when the ignition is switched on with
a vehicle which was parked in dynamic mode::::;,

Adaptive Air Suspension - Sport*, the check light does not come o n in

Thi s wa rning/indicator light has the following functions:
• It illuminates for a few seconds after the ignition is turned on as
fu nction check a nd then goe s out.
• If the wa rning/ind icator light flashes in conjunction with t he

in order to prevent damage to the underbody. T he two wa rning/ind i­

This w arnin g/in dic ator light monitors the ABS and the
ele ctroni c diff ere n tial l ock (ED L).
Th e wa rning/indicator light w ill come on fo r a few second s when the
ignition is sw itche d on. The lig ht w ill go ou t after a n automat ic check
sequence is comp leted .
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
• Th e warnin g/i ndi ca tor lig ht doe s not illumin ate whe n you swit ch
on th e ig nitio n.
• Th e warn ing /indicator l ight doe s not go out aft er a f ew seconds .
• The warning/in dicator lig ht i llu minates while d riving .
Th e ESP indic at or lig ht als o illu min ates if there is a malfunctio n in the
A BS. The message
ESP / ABS fault! See owner's manual also appears
in t he i nstr ument cluster d isp lay and a war ning to ne sounds .
The brake system will still respond even without the assistance of
the ABS system. See your authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to restore full braking performance.

The ABS warning light and the brake warning light come on
together. The ABS will not work and you will notice a change in
braking response and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system

Parking
To p revent a parked vehicle from rolling away, there are
a fe w things you should do.
When you park your vehicle , do the following
- Stop t he veh icle us ing the bra ke pedal.
- Pull the switch to apply t he electromechanica l parking
brake .
- Move th e se lector lev er in to the
P position ~& .
- Switch off the e ngine and remove the ignition key from
the ignition lock.
When you park your vehicle on hills, do the
following
- Stop the veh icle us ing the bra ke pedal.
- Pull the switch to apply t he e lectromechanica l parking
brake .
- I f you a re parkin g h eaded
downhill , turn the front w heels
toward th e curb .
- I f you are parking headed
uphill , turn t he fro nt wh eels
away from t he curb.
- M ove the selector lever into the
P position.
- Switch off the e ngine and remove the ign it ion key from
the ignition lock.

Thi s is how you can reduce the risk of injury when lea ving your
vehicle.
& W ARNING (continued )
• Never park the vehicle where it can come in contact with dry
grass , spilled fuel or any other flammable material s.
• When parking on hills, always turn the wheel s so that the front
wheel s will fir st roll into the curb, if the vehicle should start to
roll.
• Never allow anyone · especially small children· to remain in
the vehicle when it i s locked. Locked door s make it more difficult
fo r rescu ers to acce ss the passenger compartment in the event of
an emergency. Danger to life!
• Never leave children unsuperv ised in the vehicle. Ch ildren
could relea se the parking brake or move the gear shift lever out of
gear. The vehicle could start to roll away and cau se an accident .
• No matter what the season i s, the temperature
in a parked
v ehicle can reach dangero us le vels .

• Please exercise care when you pa rk your veh icle in parking areas
w ith park ing barriers o r cur bs. Parking barriers and curbs vary in
he ight and could damage your bumpe r and related components as
the front of your vehicle moves over a ba rrier or curb that is too high,
as you park or as you back out of a pa rking spot. In order to be sure
that no such damage can occur, yo u may wish to stop short of having
t he fro nt t ires of you r car touch t he p arking bar rie r or curb.
• Please a lso exerc ise except iona l care when you drive up or down
steep ramps or drive over curbs or o ther obstacles, for which the
vehicle is not des igned, because components of the vehicle close to
t he ground, s uch as bumpe r covers, spoilers and suspension and
exhaust system components, may become damaged. •

ft (5 m) to the rear . The transitions of the blue surfa ces are

T hese lines identify the direction of t ravel the rear of the ve hicle
would be taking, driving in reverse gea r with the current stee ring
w heel ang le .
The dynamic orientation lines are provided with markers @. These
ma rkers are each pla ced at a d ista nce of app rox . 3 ft (1 m) from o ne
another. Th rough these markers, the distance to an obstacle can be
es tim ated .

- While the vehicle is stationary, turn your steering wheel in the opposite direction (left) as far as it wil l go .
- Continue to back up into the parking spot until the vehicle

With "parking mode 2", you can park on the left and right side of the
road. For this reason, the b lue surfaces and curved lines are displayed
in different shades of blue . The dark blue surface @and the dark blue
curved line © can be used to park on the right s ide of the road . The
light blue surface

park on the left side of the road.
When the tur n signal is sw itched on , only the necessary s urfaces and
curves are shown. To change the side that is shown , simply change
t he tu rn s ignal.
T he disp layed light blue® or dark blue © curved line identif ies the
turn-around po int when maneuvering to park. If the curved line
touches the curb, the steer ing wheel turn-around point has been
reached => fig .

Adaptive Air Suspension
Adaptive Air Suspension and
Damping
Description
Adaptive Air Suspension and damping can be regulated and they adapt automatically to a request from the
driver and the drivin g situati on at the time.
Adaptive Air Suspens ion is an e lectron ically controlled springing and
damping system. This chass is system makes it eas ie r on the d river by
adapting to the particular situation t hrough imperceptible contro l
processes.
T he
Adapt ive Air Su spen sion component regu lates ground clea rance
depending on vehicle speed, load condition and driver input. Acce le r·
a ting to a speed above a predetermined limi t will make the vehicle
lower itself. On the other hand, driving more slow ly results in the
vehicle raising aga in at spe cific speeds .
Th e
damping component provides individua l contro l of the damping
forces. For example, with damp ing characte rist ics set to provide
greater comfort, damp ing is set som ewhat harder for a br ief period
only as req uired, for example, whe n going around a curve or over
roug h road surfaces as we ll as when bra king.
Settings
Adaptive Air Suspension provides the drive r with the opportu nity to
set the chassis characte ristics also to the ir individual preference.

standard, automatic and dynamic the d river
has three chassis sett ings available, ranging from comfort to sporty.

• Whenever you park you r vehicle, always ma ke su re there is
adeq uate clea rance above and below t he ve hicle. The heig ht of the
parked veh icle ca n change as the res ult of temperature fluctuat ions,
c hanges in loa d cond ition and changes in the dr iv ing mode (ground
cleara nce) .
