BRAKE/ ((D) Brake system
This warning/indicator light illuminates when
the brake fluid level is too low or when there
is a malfunction in the ABS, or when the park­
ing brake is set.
If the. (USA models) . (Canada models)
symbol flashes in the display with the parking
brake released , there is a malfunction in the
brake system. In addition to the symbol, one
of two messages appears in the display:
Stop vehicle and check brake fluid level
Stabilization program and ABS fault! See

The light . (USA)/ . (Canada) illuminates
when the ignition is turned on. It goes o ut af­
ter the engine has been started and the park­ ing brake is fully released . This indicates that
the brake warn ing light is funct ion ing proper­
ly.
If the brake warning light does not light up
when the engine is cranking or the parking
brake is applied, there may be a malfunction
in the electrical system. In this case, contact
your Audi dealer.
If the ABS fa ils, the ABS warn ing/ indicator
light

If the Ill symbol comes on, add 1 quart (1 li­
ter) of oil at the next opportunity

If the. symbol illuminates, contact your au­
thorized Audi dealer and have the oil sensor inspected.
Bil Fuel supply too low
When the D symbol illuminates, this means
there are about 1.9 gallons (7 liters) of fuel
left in the fuel tank. Time to refuel!

ample fuel in the tank, and the text

® Defective light bulb warning
If a defective bulb has been detected by the
system or a light bulb burns out, the
&:J sym­
bol with a message appears in the display to
tell you which bulb is burnt out and where it is
located. For example:
Rear left turn signal
After 5 seconds, the message disappears . If
you want to recall the message into the dis­
play, press the CH ECK button

There are three reasons why the defective
bulb message would appear in the display:
- The light bulb has burnt out
r:> page 215.
-The fuse is "blown" r:> page 212, Replacing
fuses .
-The wire connection to the light bulb is de-
fective.
Have the bulb replaced or the connection re­
paired by your authorized Audi Service depart­
ment.
A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode while they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lamps. Failing to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury!
BRAKE LIGHT!<®> Brake light defective
In case of a malfunction or component fail ­
ure, the symbol. (USA models)/Kf' ~» (Canada
models) can appear. The following electrical
components should be checked, repaired or
replaced, as necessary:
- Brake light bulbs
- All wiring connections
- Brake light switch
Contact your authorized Audi dealer for assis­
tance if necessary.
(D Tips
The brake light switch is only inspected as
part of the functional check after the en­
gine is started.
~CD Headlight range control defective
Applies to vehicles: wit h dynamic headlight range adjust·
ment
If the II illuminates, the dynamic headlight
range control is no longer working properly.
Have the system checked and repaired at your
authorized Audi dealer.
~O Adaptive light defective
Applies to vehicles: with Adapt ive Lig ht
m;J Adaptive light defective

When this symbo l ml illuminates, it means
that Adaptive Light is defective. Go to a quali ­
f ied workshop to have the headlights or the
control unit for the Adaptive Light repaired.
(j__ o Light/rain sensor defective
App lies to vehicles: with a utomat ic headlights
If the symbol illuminates, the light sensor has
fa iled. For safety reasons, the low beams are
turned on permanently with the switch in
AU­
TO .
Howeve r, you can continue to turn the
lights on and off using the lig ht switch . In the
case of a defect in the rain senso r, the w ind­
shie ld wiper lever functions are sti ll available.
Have the light/rain sensor checked as soon as
possible at an authorized Audi dealer .
; Audi magnetic ride
Applies to vehicles: with Audi magnetic ride
The indicator light monitors vehicle damping .
The indicato r light R ill uminates when the
i gnit io n is switched on as a function check .
(D Tips
If the indicator lamp illum inates while you
are driving, there is a malfunct ion in the
veh icle damping. The chassis should be in­
spected immediately by an authorized
Audi dea ler .
-::}. Rear spoiler
The warning/indicator light monitors the
electrically retractable rear spoiler.
The warning/indicator light 1,1 has the fol­
l owing functions:
- It comes on for about 3 seconds as a func­
t ion check when the ignition is sw itched on.
- It comes on if there is a malfunction in the
electrically retractable rear spoiler.

¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left. or the right B
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flasher, both indicator lights flash.
If one of the turn signa l light bulbs burn out,
the turn signal will blink twice as fast as nor­
mal.

The head lights only work when the ignition is
switched on. While start ing the engine or
when switching off the ignition, the head- lights
will go off and only the side ma rker
lights will be on.
Daytime running lights (DRL) (USA
models)
T he daytime running lights can be turned on
or off using this function. If the function is ac­
tive, the daytime running lights are turned on
automatically when the ignit ion is switched
on.
The daytime running lights are activated
only
when the light switch is at the AUTO* or DRL *
position.
Daytime running lights (Canada models
only)
The daytime running lights are activated only
when the light switch ¢ fig. 52 is either at the
0 or the :;oo: position.
T he daytime r unning lights funct ion cannot be
turned off.
Automatic headlight control*
In the switch position AUTO the automatic
headlight control
is turned on. The low
beams are turned on automatically through a
light sensor as soon as ambient brightness
(e .g. when driving into a tunnel) falls below a
value preset at the factory. When ambient
brightness increases aga in, the low beams are
turned off again automatically ¢.&. .
In the
AUTO position the low beams are
switched off automatically when the ignition
is turned off .
Light Sensor Malfunction*
In the event of a light sensor malfunction, the
driver is notified in the instrument cluster dis­
play:
tal Automatic headlights/automatic wipers

For safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanently with the switch in
AUTO* .
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and off using the light switch . Have the

light sensor checked as soon as possible at a
dealership.
Adaptive light *
The benefit of adaptive l ight is that the curve
and the edge of the road are better i llum inat­
ed . The adaptive light is contro lled automati­
cally, depending on vehicle speed and steering
wheel angle.
When driving a round bends, the head lights
are contro lled according to steering wheel an­
g le . So that there is no black area ahead of the
ve hic le, the two main beams pivot at different
angles. The system works above a speed of
about 6 mph (10 km/h).
Com ing home /le avi ng home function *
The function is swit ched on when the switch is
in the AUTO* position and the function is
shown as active in the driver information sys­
tem.
The
coming hom e function illuminates the
area around the vehicle when the ign ition is
switched off and the driver's door is ope ned.
The length of time the lights remain on can be
set in the menu display
( Illumination > Exte­
rior lights > coming home ).
The leavi ng home function i lluminates the
area around the vehicle when unlocking it.
A WARNING
- Never use dayt ime running l ights to see
where you are going. They are not bright
enough and w ill not let you see far
enough ahead for safety, especially at
dusk or when it is dar k. Always switch on
the low beams at dusk or when i t is dar k.
- Automatic headlights a re only intended
to assist the dr iver. They do not re lieve
t he driver of his responsibi lity to check
t he headlights and to turn them on man­
ually according to the current light and
visibility conditions. For example, fog
and rain cannot be detected by the light
sensors. So a lways switch on the head­
lights under these weather cond itions
and when driving in the dark

- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists.
- Always turn on the headlights so that
youcanseeahe adandsothatothe ~
can see your car from the back .
- Please observe legal regulat ions w hen
using the ligh ting systems des cribed.
(D Tips
- T he light sensor for head light control is
located in the rear view mirror mount.
Do not apply any stickers to t he wind­
shield in th is area to preven t malfunc­
tions or fa ilures.
- Some exter io r l ighting funct ions can be
adjusted in t he driver i nformat ion sys­
t em
~page 24.
- I f you remove the igni tion from t he igni ­
t ion lock while the headligh ts are s till
on, a buzzer wi ll sound as long as the
driver's door is o pen to remind yo u to
t u rn off the lights.
- Always observe the specific local regula ­
tions for your area as to when to use your
lights.
- With automatic headlights, the high­
beam f unction is also available, but w ith
one restrict ion: If you have not sw itched
the high beams back to low beams dur­
ing automatic headlight operation (for
example, after d riving throug h a tunnel),
only the low beams come on the next
t ime au tomati c headlights a re swi tched
on. To use the high beams , you firs t have
t o pull the hig h beam lever back and
then push the lever fo rward again .
- In coo l or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signals an d tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera­
t u re difference between the inside and
outside. They w ill clear shortly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the se rv ice life of the lighting.

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering col­
umn is used to operate the turn signals and
the high beam as well as the headlight flash­
er .

-Switching off the dimming function of
the inside rear view mirror also deact i­
vates the automatic dimming f unction of
the exterior m irrors.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not
dim when the interior lighting is turned
on or the reverse gear is selected .
-Automat ic dimming for the m irror only
operates properly if the light striking the inside mirror is not hindered in any way.
Sun visors
Using the sun visors makes driving safer.

Wiper and washer system
Windshield wiper
The windshield wiper lever controls both the
windshield wipers and the washer system .

Turning off the wipers

The windshield w ipers and washer only work
when the ignition is turned on. If you switch
off the igni tion with the windshie ld wipe r lev­
er still in the interval wipe position and then
come back a while later and drive off, the ra in
sensor will reactivate itself after the vehicle
speed has exceeded 4 mph (6 km/h).
Th e rai n sensor* is only activated with the
wiper lever set to position
(D. When it starts
to rain, the rain senso r will a utomat ically acti­
vate the intermittent wiping mode .
To reduce the sensitivity of the sensor, move
swi tch @ down. To increase the sensitivity,
move the switc h up. The higher you adjust the
sensitivity, the faster the sensor will react
when it senses moisture on the windshield.
The pauses between wiper turns depend not
only on the sensitivity setting, but on the ve-
hicle speed as well. ..,.

During brief stops, e.g. at a red light, wiper
motion will automatically be reduced to the
next lower speed. Wipers already turning at
low speed change to intermittent wiping.
When the ignition is turned on, the washer
jets are heated.
A WARNING
- Wiper blades are crucial for safe driving!
Only when they are in good condition are
they able to clear the windows properly
to provide uncompromising visibility .
Worn or damaged wiper blades are a safety hazard ¢

- The light/rain sensor* is only designed to
assist and support the driver.
It remains
entirely the driver's responsibility to
monitor outside weather conditions and
to manually activate the wipers as soon as rain or drizzle reduces visibility
through the windshield.
- The windshield must not be treated with
water-repellent materials. They can in­
crease glare under poor visibility condi­
tions such as wetness, darkness, or when
the sun is low on the horizon. In addi­
tion, they can cause the windshield wip­
ers to chatter .
(I) Note
In freezing or near freezing conditions:
- Always check that the wiper blades are
not frozen to the glass before you turn
the wipers on . Loosen a wiper blade
which is frozen in place before operating
the wipers to prevent damage to the
wiper blade or the wiper motor.
- Do not use the wipers to clear a frosted window . Using the wipers as a conven­
ient ice scraper will destroy the wiper
blades.
- Before you take your vehicle to an auto­
matic car wash, make sure you have the
windshield wiper system switched off (lever in position 0), otherwise the wind­
shield wiper system could get damaged

in the car wash if it should suddenly
come on.
(0 Tips
- The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is turned off. Activate
the windshield wipers after the ignition
is switched back on by moving the wind­
shield wiper lever to any position.
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades
cause smearing, which can affect the op­
eration of the light/rain sensor* . Check
the condition of your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The rain sensor is part of the interval
wiping system . Turning off the ignition
will also deactivate the rain sensor. To re­ activate the sensor, switch off the inter­
val wiping function, then switch it back
on again.
-Applies to vehicles with light/rain sen­
sor : When the wipers are switched on
manually and in rain conditions, the au­
tomatic headlights* turn on¢
page 48,
Switching the headlights on and off
or
off during the day when the wipers are
no longer operating. The automatic
headlights* function is available in this
case only when the light switch is in the
"AUTO" position¢

-Make sure the washer fluid reservoir in
the engine compartment is topped off
before going on a long trip. Look up

washer container .
- The wipers only operate with the hood
completely closed .
Headlight washer system
Applies to vehicles: with headlight washer system
The headlight washer system cleans the
headlights.

Audi magnetic ride
Applies to vehicles: with magnetic ride
Damping can be adjusted to the driver's pref­
erence and it adapts automatically to the cur­
rent driving situation.

Aud i magnetic ride is an electronically con­
trolled damping system. This chassis system
assists the dr iver by adapting to the particular
situation through imperceptible control proc­
esses. The
da mping provides individua l modu­
lation of damping forces. For example, with
damping characteristics set to provide greater
comfort, damping is set somewhat harder for
a brief period only
as required, when rounding
a curve and when braking.
St andard setti ng
Select the standard sett ing if you prefer a sus­
pension setting emphasizing comfort .
Sport setting
Select the sport setting if you prefer a sporty
suspens ion setting . The LED in the switch
R
comes on to indicate sport setting.
@ T ips
The warning/indicator light R in the in­
strument cluster comes on in the event of
a ma lfunction. Drive to the closest author ­
ized Audi dealer as soon as possible and
have the malfunction repaired.

Sport mode
Applies to vehicles: wit h Sport button

A more agile and sporty driving style is possi­
ble when driving the vehicle in "sport mode".
T his mode affects throttle response and the
sound of the engine and the damping charac­
teristics of the Audi magnetic ride for dynamic
suspension tuning .
(1} Tips
If there is a malfunction in the retractable
rear spoiler* or the Audi magnetic ride*, it
may not be poss ible to activate sport
mode.
Acoustic parking system
Rear acoustic park assist
Applies to vehicles: with 4-channe l acoustic park assist
Acoustic park assist gives a warning about
obstacles behind the vehicle.
D es cription
The rear acoustic park assist (4-channel
acoustic park assist) determines the distance
of the vehicle from an obstacle using ultra­
sonic sensors. The sensors are in the rear
bumper. The volume and the pitch of the

Activation
The parking assist
is activated when r ev erse
ge ar is engaged . A b rief tone confi rms that
the system is activated .
Backing up
Distance warning when back ing up starts
when an obstacle is detected in the range of
the park assist system . As the d istance de­
creases, the time i nterva l between the audible
tones becomes shorter.
When the d istance is less than 1 foot (0.30
m), the tone becomes cont inuous . At this
poi nt you should stop backing up.
Please note that low objects already signalled
by a warning can disappear from the system 's
detection range and w ill not continue to be
signalled.
Potenti al malfunction s
If a warning buz zer sounds for a few seconds
when the ignition is sw itched on, there is a
system malfunction w ith the acoustic park as­
sist . If the malfunction persists unti l the igni­
tion is switched off , there will be no acoustic
warn ing at the next attempt to activate the
system . Have the problem corrected.
There is no confirmation tone when reverse
gear is engaged if there is a system ma lfunc­
tion .
For the park ing ass ist to operate, the sensors
must be kept clean and free of ice.
_& WARNING
- Sensors have blind spots in which objects
cannot be detected . Pay special attention
to sma ll children and animals. They can- not a
lways be detected by the sensors -
danger of an accident!
- The parking assist cannot rep lace the
driver's attention. The driver alone is re­
sponsible for parking and similar driving maneuvers. Always watch where you are
driving.
(D Note
Low obstacles already signa lled by a warn­
i ng can d isappear from the system's detec­
tion range as they are approached and w ill
not continue to be signalled. Objects such
as barrier chains, trailer draw bars, th in
painted vertical poles, o r fences may not
be detected by the system - risk of dam­
age .
@ Tips
For the parking assist to operate, the sen­
sors must be kept clean and free of snow
and ice.
