Possible malfunctions
Applies to: vehicles with tyre pressure monitoring system
If the tyre pressure monitoring system is inoper­
ative, the indicator lamp mm will appear in the
instrument cluster display together with the
message Tyre pressure: fault. See owner's man­
ual.
If the indicator lamp mm appears after you have
switched on the ignition or while you are driving
and the indicator lamp[I] flashes for approxi­
mately one minute and then remains lit, there is
a fault in the system. This fault can have the fol­
lowing causes:
- If the display appears at the end of the initiali­
sation process, this means that the system can­
not detect the wheel sensors required to moni­
tor the pressures. This can happen if one or
more of the tyres fitted does not have a sensor
or the sensors are incompatible.
- One of the wheel sensors or another compo­
nent may not be working.
- Snow chains interfere with the signals trans­
mitted by the sensors and can prevent the sys­
tem from functioning properly.
- The tyre pressure monitoring system may be in­
operative due to radio interference.
- Radio systems operating on the same frequen­
cy, such as radio headphones or two-way radios
inside the vehicle, produce strong electromag­
netic fields which cause temporary interfer­
ence.
The indicator lamp mm and the message will
disappear as soon as the tyre pressure monitor­
ing system is available again. If the fault persists
and the indicator lamp mm stays on, you should
drive to a qualified workshop and have the fault
rectified.

CX) ]ump-starting
Before starting the engine
If necessary, the engine can be started by con­
necting it to the battery of another vehicle.
If the engine fails to start because of a dis­
charged battery, the vehicle battery can be con­
nected to the battery of another vehicle to start
the engine. Suitable jump leads are required.
Both vehicle batteries must be rated at 12 Volts.
The capacity (Ah) of the booster battery should
not be significantly lower than that of the dis­
charged battery.
Jump leads
The jump leads must be heavy enough to carry
the starter current. Refer to the details given by
the manufacturer.
Only use jump leads with insulated battery
clamps.
Positive cable -usually red.
Negative cable -usually black.
A WARNING
- When it is discharged the battery can freeze
at temperatures around 0°
(. A frozen bat­
tery must first be thawed out before con­
necting the jump leads -risk of explosion
and chemical burns! After jump-starting the
vehicle, drive to a qualified workshop with­
out delay and have the vehicle battery
checked.
- Note the safety warnings referring to work­
ing in the engine compartment ¢ page 244.

- There must be no contact between the two
vehicles as otherwise current could flow as
soon as the positive terminals are connec­
ted. This would discharge the boosting bat­
tery.
- The discharged vehicle battery must be
properly connected to the vehicle's electri­
cal system. Mobility
- Switch off the car telephone if necessary.
Details will be given in the manufacturer's
instructions for the car telephone.
Starting the engine
The two jump Leads must be connected in the
correct sequence.

Preparations
... Apply the parking brake and move the gear lev­
er to neutral (manual gearbox) or move these­
lector lever to P (automatic gearbox).
... Switch off all electrical equipment and the igni-
tion on both vehicles.
Connecting and disconnecting the jump
leads
... Before jump-starting the vehicle you must open
the cap on the positive terminal.
... Connect one end of the red jump lead to the
positive terminal (!) ¢Fig. 241 ofthejump­
start connection @ in your vehicle.
... Connect the other end of the red jump lead to
the positive terminal @of the boosting battery

WARNING
Never attempt to repair a fuse or replace a
blown fuse by fitting a fuse with a higher am­
pere rating. This could damage the electrical
system -risk of fire!
CD CAUTION
If a newly replaced fuse blows again after a
short time, the electrical system must be
checked by a qualified workshop as soon as
possible.

Accessories and modifi­
cations to the vehicle
Accessories,
replacement parts and
repairs
It is best to consult an authorised Audi dealer
before purchasing accessories and replacement
parts or having any repairs carried out.
Your car is designed to offer a high standard of
active and passive safety. For this reason, we rec­
ommend that you ask your Audi dealer for advice
before fitting accessories or replacement parts.
This is also very important if body repairs are re­
quired. Audi dealers have full information on the
manufacturer-approved repair methods and can
recommend suitable accessories and spare parts.
They can also give advice regarding official re­
quirements for the vehicle.
We recommend you to use only Audi accessories
and Audi Genuine Parts. Audi has tested these
products for suitability, reliability and safety.
Audi dealers have the necessary experience and
facilities to ensure that the parts are installed
properly.
Although the market is constantly scrutinised,
Audi cannot judge or assume responsibility for
the reliability, safety and suitability of non-genu­
ine products -even though in some instances,
these parts may have been approved by an offi­
cially recognised technical testing authority or
accompanied by an official approval certificate.
Any retro-fitted equipment which has a direct ef­
fect on the vehicle and/or the way it is driven
(e.g. cruise control system or electronically-con­
trolled suspension) must be approved for use in
your vehicle and bear thee mark (the European
Union's approval symbol).
If any additional electrical components are fit­
ted which do not serve to control the vehicle it­
self (for instance a refrigerator box, Laptop or
ventilator fan, etc.), these must bear the CE: mark
(manufacturer conformity declaration in the Eu­
ropean Union). A
WARNING
Never attach accessories (such as cup holders
or telephone brackets) to the surfaces cover­
ing the airbag units or the areas around the
airbags: this could cause injury if the airbag is
triggered.
(@ Note
- Since your vehicle has an all-aluminium
body, all servicing, repairs or other work on
the car body must be carried out by an Audi
workshop or a qualified workshop working
to the specifications of the Audi factory.
This ensures that the necessary repairs or
servicing are performed properly and that
only Audi Genuine Parts are installed on
your vehicle. Use of non-genuine replace­
ment parts, equipment or accessories on
your vehicle, or repair of the vehicle by un­
qualified persons may result in serious dam­
age to your car (possibly including corro­
sion).
- The manufacturer cannot be held Liable for
damage which occurs as a result of failure
to comply with these stipulations, and such
damage is not covered under warranty.
Modifications
Modifications must always be carried out accord­
ing to our specifications.
Unauthorised modifications to the electronic
components or software in the vehicle may cause
malfunctioning. Due to the way the electronic
components are linked together in networks,
other systems may be affected by the faults. This
can seriously impair safety, Lead to excessive
wear of components, and also invalidate the type
approval for your vehicle.
You will appreciate that your Audi dealer cannot
be held liable for any damage caused by modifi­
cations and/or work performed incorrectly.
We recommend that all work should be per­
formed by an Audi workshop using Audi Genuine
Parts. ..,_

- Incorrectly performed modifications or oth­
er work on your vehicle can lead to malfunc­
tions and cause accidents.
- Do not use an additional or replacement
number plate holder other than the original
one fitted at the front of the vehicle.
Radio transmitters and
business equipment
Radio transmitters (fixed installation)
Retrofit installations of radio transmitters in the
vehicle are subject to official approval. Audi gen­
erally authorises in-vehicle installations of ap­
proved types of radio transmitters provided that:
- The aerial is installed correctly.
- The aerial is not installed in the interior of the
vehicle (and screened cables are used together
with non-reflective aerial trimming).
- The effective transmitting power does not ex-
ceed 10 Watts at the aerial base.
Qualified workshops will be able to inform you
about options for installing and operating radio
transmitters with a higher transmitting power.
Mobile radio transmitters
When using commercial mobile telephones or ra­
dio equipment it is possible that they might in­
terfere with the electronics of your vehicle and
cause malfunctions. The reasons could be:
- no external aerial
- external aerial incorrectly installed
- transmitting power more than 10 W
Therefore you must not operate portable mobile
telephones or radio equipment inside the vehicle
without a correctly installed external aerial¢,&..
Please note also that the maximum range of the
equipment can only be achieved with an external
aerial.
Business equipment
Retrofit installation of business or other equip­
ment in the vehicle is permitted, provided the
equipment cannot interfere with the driver's im-

control of the vehicle. Any such equip­
ment must carry the CE mark. Any retrofit equip­
ment that could influence the driver's control of
the vehicle must have a type approval for your ve­
hicle and must carry thee mark.
A WARNING
Mobile telephones or radio equipment which
are operated inside the vehicle without a cor­
rectly installed external aerial can create ex­
cessive magnetic fields that could cause a
health hazard.
@ Note
-Any retrofit installation of electrical or elec­
tronic equipment in the vehicle will affect
its type approval. In extreme cases this
could mean that you might lose the type ap­
proval for your vehicle.
- Please refer to the mobile telephone/radio
operating instructions.
