Front passenger 's exterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slight ly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger's exterior
mirror .
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by turn­ ing the knob in the desired direction. When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using .
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition off .
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex) enlarge the
f ield of vision. However, they make objects in
the m irror appear smaller and farther away.
You may estimate incorrectly when you use
these mirrors to gauge your distance from the
vehicles behind you when changing lanes,
which increases the risk of an accident.
(D Note
If th e mirror housing was moved by outs ide
fo rces (such as an impact when maneuver ­
i ng), you must use the power fold ing funct ion
to fold the mirror a ll the way out . The mirror
housing must not be moved back into place
by hand because th is would impair the func­
tion of the mirror mechanism.
(D Tips
If the power adjusting function malfunctions,
the glass in both mirrors can be adjusted by
pressing on the edge of it by hand.

folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not drive your vehicle or press the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield w ipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.

- You can also use the service posit ion, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover .
- You cannot activate the service posit ion
when the hood is open .
Digital compass

The dig ital compass only works when the ignit ion
is turned on . The directions are indicated with ab­
breviations:

-To reduce the risk of an accident, only adjust
the seat when the veh icle is stationary.
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height . Adjusting the seat care lessly or
without checking can pinch hands and fin ­
gers .
- For safety reasons, the seat backrests must
always be locked while driving .
- Never drive with a safety belt through the
openings in the backrest . Otherw ise the
backrest could fold forward wh ile driving
and cause an accident.
Multifunction button
Applies to: vehicles with multifunction button
You con adjust the side bolsters using the multi­
function button .
"If you turn the multifun ction button (D
¢ page 46, fig. 49 to the left or r ight, the side
bolsters on the seat backrests will increase or
decrease the lateral support.
@ Tips
The air in the side bolsters* is released as
soon as the driver's door opens . T his makes is
possible to enter and exit the vehicle more
comfortably. As soon as you start driving the
veh icle, the side bolsters fill.
Center armrest

The a rm rest can slide forward and back.
T here is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest.
Ashtray

The ashtray is placed in the center console under
the center a rm rest.
Lift up the cover to open . In ­
sert the ashtray securely back into the holder af ­
ter every removal (emptying).

Never use the ashtray to hold paper, because
this increases the risk of a fire.

Beverage containers in the cup holders should
always have a lid. If not, beverages could spill
and cause damage to vehicle equipment, such

You will find a range of storage compartments

- Storage compartment under the center arm­

- Storage compartment on the rear side of the
seat* . The compartment can hold a max imum
weight of 2.2 lbs (1 kg).
A WARNING
-Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the risk of injury.
- Only use the storage compartments in the door trim panels to store small objects that
will not st ic k out of the compa rtment and
impair the range of the side a irbags.

Adjusting the steering wheel position
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable up
and down and forward and back .

A WARNING
Incorrect use of the steering wheel adjust­
ment and an incorrect seating position can
cause se rious injuries .
- Only adjust the steering column when the vehicle is stat io nary so that you do not lose
contro l of the ve hicle.

-Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is at least a 10 in (25 cm) d is­
tance between your c hest an d the steering
wheel.
If you do not mainta in this dis tan ce,
you will not be p roper ly protec ted by t he air­
bag system.
- If your physical character istics preven t you
from sit ting at least 1 0 in (25 cm) or more
away from the steering wheel, see if an a u­
tho rized Aud i dea le r or a uthorized Audi
Service Facility can provide adapters that
will help.
- If your face is leve l w ith the steering
wheel,
the a irbag does not prov ide as much protec­
t ion during a collision. A lways make sure
that the steering wheel is level with your
chest.

-Always hold the steering wheel with your hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock pos i­
tions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys .
- Never hold the steering wheel in the 12
o'clock position or with both hands on the
rim or the center of the steering wheel. Ho ld ing the steer ing whee l incorrect ly sig­
nificant ly increases the risk of injury to the
hands, a rms and head if the airbag deploys.

This message appears if there is no convenience
key inside the vehicle or if the system does not
recognize the key. The conve nience key may not
be recognized, for examp le, if it is covered by an
object that

vices s uch as cell phones can also interfere w it h
the sign al.

The Ill ind icator light turns on and this message
appears if the conve nience key was removed from

conven ience key is no longer in the vehicle, you

once yo u stop it. Yo u also cannot lock the veh icle
from the outside.

ing the lock ing sensor on the door handle or us­

Starting the engine when there is a
malfunction
It may not be possible to start the engine under
certain circumstances, for example if the battery
in the vehicle key i s drained, if in terferen ce is af­
fe cted the key or if there i s a system malfunc­
tion.

Drivin g
- If the power sup ply fai ls, you cannot set the
parking brake if it is release d. In this case,
park the vehicle on level ground an d secure
it by placing the selector lever in the P posi­
t ion . See an authorized Aud i d ealer or au­
thorized Aud i Serv ice Facility for ass istance.
- If you leave the veh icle, switch the ignit ion
off and take the vehicle key w ith you . This
applies particularly when children remain in
the vehicle. Othe rwise children could sta rt
the engine, re lease the par king brake o r op­
erate electrical equipment such as power
windows, which increases the risk of an acci­
dent.
- No one shou ld remain in the vehicle when it
is locked - especially chi ldren . Locked doors
make it more diff icu lt for emergency work­
ers to get into the vehicle, which puts lives
at risk.
(D Tips
When stopping at a traffic signal or stopping in city traffic, you can set the parking brake
manually. The vehicle does not have to be
he ld w ith the brake pedal. The parking brake
elim inates the tendency to creep when a se­
lector lever pos ition is engaged. As soon as
you press the accelerator pedal, the park ing
brake releases automat ica lly and your vehicle
s tarts to move
~ page 62.
(D Tips
- Occasiona l noises when the par king b rake is
set and re leased a re normal and a re not a
cause for con cern.
- T he par king brake goes th ro ugh a se lf-test
cycle at regular intervals when the veh icle is

available when the vehicle begins driving, de­ pending on vehicle equipment.
Starting on hills with th e parking brake set

the parking b rake and beg in driving as usual.
The b raking force of the pa rking brake does not
release automat ic a lly until t he whee ls build up
enoug h driving force .
Starting on hills with hill hold assist
Hill hold assist makes it easier to start on hills .
Requirement: the driver 's door must be closed
and t he engine must be running.
"' To activate hi ll hold assist, press and hold the
brake pedal for severa l seconds. The vehicle
must be in an uphill direct ion of travel.
After re leasing the brake pedal, the braking pow ­
er is maintained for a brief
moment~ A to pre ·
vent the vehicle from ro lling back when starting.
D ur ing this time, you can easily begin to move
your vehicle.
A WARNING
Applies to: vehicles with hill hold assist
-If you do not beg in dr iving immed iate ly or
t he engine stalls after releasing the bra ke
pedal, your veh icle may beg in to roll back ­
ward . Press the bra ke peda l or set the park­
ing brake immediately.
- The inte lligent technology of hill ho ld assist
cannot ove rcome the limitat ions imposed by
natural phys ica l laws. The increased com fort
offered by hill hold assist should not cause
you to take safety risks .
- Hill hold ass ist cannot hold the vehicle in
place on all hills (for examp le, if the ground
is s lippery or icy).
- To reduce the r is k of an accident, always
make sure the veh icle is situated safely
while stationary .

Automatic transmission
Introduction
Your vehicle is equipped with an electronically­
controlled DSG transmiss ion called S tronic. Two
independent clutches transfer the power be­
tween the engine and transmission . It allows the
vehicle to accelerate without a noticeab le inter­
ruption in traction.
The transmission upshifts or downsh ifts auto­
mat ica lly. The driving style continuously influen­
ces the selection of the driving program.
When a
mod erat e d rivin g sty le is used, the
transmission selects the most economical d riving
mode. The transmiss ion upsh ifts at a lower RPM
and downshifts at a higher RPM to improve fuel
efficiency.
The transm ission switches to a spo rty mode after
a kick-down or when the driver uses a
s po rt y
d riv ing sty le
characterized by quick accelerator
pedal movements, heavy acce leration, frequent
changes in speed and traveling at the maximum
speed.
If desired, the driver can also select the gears
manually ( tipt roni c mod e).

P -Pa rk
You can on ly shift into Park when the vehi cle is
stationary¢ &.
Drivi ng
To shift in and out of the P selector lever posi­
tion, press the inter lock button in the selector
lever
while pressing the brake pedal.
R- Reverse
Only s hift into reverse gear when the vehicle is
stationary and the engine is runn ing at id le
speed¢ &.
To se lect the R selector leve r pos ition, press the
in terlock button
while press ing the brake pedal.
T he back-up lights sw itch on in the R pos ition if
the ignition is switched on.
N -Neutral
The t ransmission is in idle in th is posit ion.
D IS -Norm al position fo r driving forward
In the D/S se lector lever position, the transmis­
s ion can be operated either in the normal D mode
or in the S sport mode . To select the S sport
mode, pull the selector lever back briefly . Pulling
the leve r back aga in will selec t the normal D
mode. The selected d riving mode is shown in the
Infotainment display.
In the
n ormal mode "D", the transm ission auto­
matically selects the suitable gear ratio.
It de­
pends on engine load, vehicle speed and driving
sty le.
Select the
s p o rt mod e "S" for sporty driving . The
vehicle makes full use of the eng ine 's powe r.
Shifting may become noticeable whe n accelerat­
i ng.
To move from selector lever pos ition
"N" to "D",
you m ust press the brake peda l and the vehicle
must be traveling less than 1 mph (2 km/h) or be
stationary¢ &.
A WARNING
Read and fo llow all WARNI NGS .
- The vehicle can roll even if the ignit ion is
switched off .
- Never se lect R or P whi le driving, because
this increases the risk of an accident .
- Power is still transmitted to the wheels
when the engine is runn ing at idle. To pre­
vent the vehicle from "creeping", yo u must

keep your foot on the brake in all selector
lever positions (except P) when the engine is
running. Otherwise, this increases the risk
of an accident.
- Do not inadvertently press the accelerator
pedal when the vehicle is stopped if a gear is
engaged. Otherwise the vehicle will start to
move immediately, even if the parking brake
is set . This could result in a crash.
- Do not press the accelerator pedal when changing the selector lever position while
the vehicle is stationary and the engine is
running.
- Never leave your vehicle with the engine
running while in gear.
If you must leave
your vehicle when the engine is running, set
the parking brake and move the selector lev­
er to the "P" position.
- To decrease the risk of an accident, these­
lector lever must be in the P position and
the parking brake must be set before open­
ing the hood and working on a running en­
gine. Always read and follow the applicable
warnings¢ page 233, Working in the en­
gine compartment .
(D Note
Never let the vehicle roll downhill with engine
off and the selector lever in the "N" position,
because this could damage the automatic
transmission and catalytic converter .
{D) Tips
- Drive select: sporty shifting characteristics
can be selected using the
Dynamic driving
mode . The Infotainment display shows Sas
the selector lever position instead of D.
- If you accidentally select "N" while driving,
take your foot off the accelerator pedal im­
mediately and wait for the engine to slow
down to idle before selecting "D" or "S".
- If there is a power failure, the selector lever
will not move out of the "P" position. The
emergency release can be used if this hap­
pens. Left-hand drive

Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select­
ing a gear accidentally, causing the vehicle to
roll .

To release the selector lever lock:
.., Switch the ignition on.

.., Press the brake pedal while pressing the inter-
lock button.
Automatic shift lock (ASL)
The selector lever is locked in the "P" and "N" po­
sitions when the ignition is switched on. You
must press the brake pedal to select another po­
sition. You must also press the interlock button if
you are moving from the "P" position. The follow­
ing message appears in the display when these­
lector lever is in the "P" or
"N" position to remind
the driver:
To select a gear, please press brake pedal and press lock button on selector lever
The automatic shift lock only functions when the
vehicle is stationary or at speeds below 1 mph
(2 km/h). At higher speeds, the lock is automati­
cally deactivated in the "N" position.
The selector lever is not locked when shifting
quickly through "N", for example from "R" to "D".
This makes it possible to free the vehicle when it
is stuck by "rocking" it. The selector lever lock en­
gages if the lever stays in the "N" position longer
than approximately two seconds when the brake
pedal is not pressed.
