Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RPM) .
The beginning of the red zone in the tachometer
indicates the maximum perm iss ib le engine speed
for all gears once the engine has been broken in
and when it is warmed up to operating tempera­
ture. Before reaching the red zone, you should
sh ift into the next h igher gear, choose the Do r S
selecto r lever posi tion, or remove you r foot from
the ac cele rator peda l.

The needle in the tachometer may only be in
t he red a rea of the gauge for a short per iod of
time or there is a risk of damaging the engine.
T he loca tio n where the red zo ne begins varies
de pending o n the engine.

Upshifti ng e arly helps you to save fuel and re­
duces operati ng noise.

Trip odometer and odomete r
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset.
It can be used to meas ure
short distances .
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­ ing the reset button 10.01

Driver information system
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instr ument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip o dome ter disp lay.
Have the malfunction corrected as soon as possi­
ble.

- Long-term memory overv iew
T he short -term memory collects driv ing in forma ­
tion from t he time the ignition is switc hed on un ­
t il it is switched off. If you continue driving w ith­
in two hours after sw itch ing the ignit ion off , the
new values are included when ca lculating the cur­
rent t rip information .
U nli ke the short-te rm memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatically. You can
se­
lect t he time period for evaluating trip informa­
t ion yourse lf .
Fuel consumption
T he current f uel consumption can be shown us ­
ing a bar graph . The average consumption stored
in the short-term memory is also disp layed. If
the ba r is green, your vehicle is savi ng fuel
t hr ough one of the following functions :
-Recuperation: electrical energy can be stored in
the vehicle battery when the vehicle is coast ing
or driving downhil l. The bar will move toward

Opening and closing
Locking the front passenger's door with the
mechanical key
The mechanical lock is located on the edge of the
front passenger's door . It is only vis ible when the
door is open.

.. Insert the key into the slot inside and turn it a ll
the way to the right (r ight door) or to the left
(left door*).
Once the front passenger 's door is closed, it is no
longer possible to open it from the outs ide . The
door can be opened from the inside by pull ing
t h e door handle.
Anti-theft alarm system
If the anti-theft alarm system detects a vehicle
brea k-in, audio and visual warn ing signals are
t rigge red. The anti -theft a la rm sys tem is swi tc h­
ed o n or off when lock ing/ unlo cki ng your ve hicle.
If the alarm is triggered, i t will shut off a utomat­
ica lly after a certain amount of time.

Break-in security feature
T he alarm will sound if there is a break-in at the

The driver can control all power windows.

A WARNING
- Pay careful attent ion when closing the win­
dows . Pinching could cause serious injur ies.
- When locking the veh icle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency .
(D Tips
-You can still open and close the windows for
approximately
10 minutes after turning the
i gnition off. The power windows do not
switch off until the driver's door or front passenger's doo r has been opened .
- When opening the doors and when open ­
i ng/closing the power top, the w indows au-

A WARNING
- Never close the w indows o r the power top*
careless ly or in an uncontro lled manner, be­
cause this increases the risk of injury.
- For secur ity reasons, the win dows and the
power top* can only be opened and closed
with the remote control key at a maximum
d istance of approximately 6 ft (2 m) away
from the vehicle. When p ressing the [@] but­
ton, always watch the w indows and power
top* while they are closing so that no one is
p inched by moving components . The closing
p rocess w ill stop immediately when the [@]
button is re leased.

You can reactivate the one-touch up/down func­
tion if it malfunctions .
.. Pull the power window sw itch up unt il the win­
dow is completely raised.
.. Release the sw itch and pull it up again for at
least one second .
Garage door opener
(Homelink)
Description
Applies to: vehicles with garage door opener (Homelink)

W ith the garage door opener (Homelin k), you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
secur ity systems o r house lights from inside your
veh icle. Up to three remote control f unctions can
be programmed to the three buttons that are in ­
tegrated in the control unit above the rearview
mirror .
To be ab le to operate systems using the garage
door opener, the buttons in the contro l unit must
first be programmed .
A WARNING
When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people or ob­
jects are in the area immediately surrounding
the equipment . Peop le can be injured or prop­
erty can be damaged if str uck when closing .

l ong period of time, the overload pro tection acti ­
vates for approximate ly 15 to 3 0 minutes . You
can open or close the power top again after that .

Engine must be running
The power top is automatically deactivated if the
battery voltage is low. You can open or close the
power top again after sta rting the engine.
Power top: operation currently not possible.
Outs ide temperature too low
The power top will not o pen whe n the tempera­
ture is below 5 °F (-15 °C) .
Power top: operation not possible. Speed too
high
If you go above 30 mph (SO km/h), the power
top cannot be operated due to safety reasons. Reduce the vehicle speed to close or open the
power top.
Power top : not secu re . Speed too high
This message appears if you go above 50 km/h
when operating the power top . Reduce t he vehi­
cle speed and operate the power top again.
Power top: malfunction! You may continue
driving (limited functionality). See owner's manual
This message appea rs if there is a ma lfunction in
the system . Try to open or close the power top
again. If the message st ill appea rs, then have an
au thor ized Audi dealer or author ized A udi S ervice

N ever drive whe n the power top is not locked
correctly. The w ind from driving co uld cause

Wind deflector
Appl ies to: vehicles wit h w ind deflector
The wind deflector reduces air movement in the
passenger compartment in order to increase driving comfort.

H ave a second person assist when positioning the
power top. That person shou ld stand on the op­
posite side of the vehicle and perform the same
steps .
_& WARNING
-When positioning the power top, avoid con­
tact with the supports or other moving

hands.
- When pressing the power top down onto
the windshield frame, make sure that you
do not pinch yourse lf or anyone else . There
is a risk of injury.

Make sure that both covers are complete ly
open and the push rods are clipped in to avoid
damage when opening the power top.

-To reduce the risk of an accident, only adjust
the seat when the veh icle is stationary.
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height . Adjusting the seat care lessly or
without checking can pinch hands and fin ­
gers .
- For safety reasons, the seat backrests must
always be locked while driving .
- Never drive with a safety belt through the
openings in the backrest . Otherw ise the
backrest could fold forward wh ile driving
and cause an accident.
Multifunction button
Applies to: vehicles with multifunction button
You con adjust the side bolsters using the multi­
function button .
"If you turn the multifun ction button (D
¢ page 46, fig. 49 to the left or r ight, the side
bolsters on the seat backrests will increase or
decrease the lateral support.
@ Tips
The air in the side bolsters* is released as
soon as the driver's door opens . T his makes is
possible to enter and exit the vehicle more
comfortably. As soon as you start driving the
veh icle, the side bolsters fill.
Center armrest

"To adjust the angle, raise the armrest ¢ fig. 51
notch by notch.
.. To br ing the armrest back down, ra ise it out of
the top notch and fold it back down. Then lift
the armrest to the desired position, if necessa­ ry .
Please note that the d river 's ability to move his or
arm may be restricted when the armrest is folded
down . Because of this , the armrest should not be
folded down dur ing c ity dr iving .
The a rm rest can slide forward and back.
T here is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest.
Ashtray
Applies to: vehicles with ashtray

The ashtray is placed in the center console under
the center a rm rest.
Lift up the cover to open . In ­
sert the ashtray securely back into the holder af ­
ter every removal (emptying).
_& WARNING
Never use the ashtray to hold paper, because
this increases the risk of a fire.

Beverage containers in the cup holders should
always have a lid. If not, beverages could spill
and cause damage to vehicle equipment, such
electronics or seat covers.
Additional storage compartments
You will find a range of storage compartments
and holders at different locations in the veh icle .
- Compartments in the doors
- Storage area in the glove compartment . The
glove compartment can be locked using the
mechan ica l key
q page 23.
- Storage compartment under the center arm­
rest*
- Storage compartment on the rear side of the
seat* . The compartment can hold a max imum
weight of 2.2 lbs (1 kg).
A WARNING
-Always leave the lid on the glove compart­
ment cover closed while driving to reduce
the risk of injury.
- Only use the storage compartments in the door trim panels to store small objects that
will not st ic k out of the compa rtment and
impair the range of the side a irbags.
