Instrument Panel Cluster
The instrument panel cluster is designed to let you know at a glance how your vehicle is running. You will know how

Speedometer and Odometer
The speedometer lets you see your speed in both
miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h).
The odometer shows how far your vehicle has
been driven, in either miles (used in the United States)
or kilometers (used in Canada).
You may wonder what happens if a vehicle has to have
a new odometer installed. The new one may read
the correct mileage. This is because your vehicle’s
computer has stored the mileage in memory.
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer can record the number of miles or
kilometers traveled for up to two trips.
The trip odometer button is
located to the left of the
steering wheel on the
instrument panel. The two trip modes are indicated by Trip A and Trip B.
In order to change from one mode to the other,
press the A/B portion of the TRIP button.
By pressing the bottom of this button, you can tell how
many miles have been recorded on either Trip A or
Trip B since you last set the odometer back to zero.
Press the RESET part of the button until zeros appear
to reset each trip mode.
If your vehicle is rst sold in the United States,
the trip odometer will return to zero after 999.9 miles
(1 609 km). If your vehicle is rst sold in Canada, the trip
odometer will return to zero after 1,242 miles (1 999 km).
The RESET TRIP A/B button only resets the trip
mode (A or B) that is being displayed. Each trip mode
must be reset individually.
Display Mode
On vehicles equipped with the analog cluster, this
button is located between the trip odometer and
ENG/MET button to the left of the steering wheel on the
instrument panel. Press DSPL MODE to turn the
backlighting and the digital speed image on and off.
On vehicles equipped with the digital cluster, press
DSPL MODE to turn the digital displays other than the
speedometer and gear display on and off.

English/Metric Button
By pressing this button
located to the left of the
steering wheel on the
instrument panel, you can
go back and forth from
English (miles) to
metric (kilometers).
Other readings such as temperature, fuel and trip
odometer also go back and forth between English
and metric.
Tachometer (Analog Cluster Only)
This gage indicates
the engine speed in
revolutions per
minute (rpm).
Engine Speed Limiter
This feature prevents the engine from operating at too
many revolutions per minute (rpm). When the engine’s
rpm are critically high, the fuel supply to the engine
will shut off. When the engine speed slows, the
fuel supply will come on again. This helps prevent
damage to the engine.

Safety Belt Reminder Light
When the key is turned to ON or START, a chime will
come on for several seconds to remind people to fasten

Airbag Readiness Light
There is an airbag readiness light on the instrument
panel, which shows AIR BAG or the airbag symbol.
The system checks the airbag’s electrical system
for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an
electrical problem. The system check includes the airbag
sensors, the airbag modules, the wiring and the crash
sensing and diagnostic module. For more information on
the airbag system, seeAirbag System on page 1-48.
This light will come on when you start your vehicle, and
it will ash for a few seconds. Then the light should
go out. This means the system is ready.

Brake System Warning and Parking
Brake Indicator Light
Your vehicle’s hydraulic brake system is divided into
two parts. If one part is not working, the other part can
still work and stop you. For good braking, though,
you need both parts working well.
If the warning light comes on, there is a brake problem.
Have your brake system inspected right away.
This light should come on
brie y when you turn the
ignition key to ON. If it
does not come on then,
have it xed so it will
be ready to warn you if
there is a problem.
When the ignition is on, the brake system warning light
will also come on when you set your parking brake.
The light will stay on if your parking brake does not fully
release. If it stays on after your parking brake is fully
released, it means you have a brake problem.
{CAUTION:
Your brake system may not be working
properly if the brake system warning light is
on. Driving with the brake system warning light
on can lead to an accident. If the light is still
on after you have pulled off the road and
stopped carefully, have the vehicle towed for
service.
If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off the
road and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal is
harder to push. Or, the pedal may go closer to the
oor. It may take longer to stop. If the light is still on,
have the vehicle towed for service. SeeTowing

Anti-Lock Brake System
Warning Light
With the anti-lock brake
system, the light(s) will
come on when your engine
is started and may stay
on for several seconds.
That is normal.
If the light stays on, turn the ignition to OFF. Or, if the
light comes on when you are driving, stop as soon
as possible and turn the ignition off. Then start
the engine again to reset the system. If the light still
stays on, or comes on again while you are driving, your
vehicle needs service. If the regular brake system
warning light is not on, you still have brakes, but you do
not have anti-lock brakes. If the regular brake system
warning light is also on, you do not have anti-lock brakes
and there is a problem with your regular brakes. See
Brake System Warning and Parking Brake Indicator
Light on page 3-47.
The anti-lock brake system warning light should come
on brie y when you turn the ignition key to ON.
If the light does not come on then, have it xed so it will
be ready to warn you if there is a problem.
Traction Control System (TCS)
Warning Light
This warning light should come on brie y when the
engine is started.
If the warning light does not come on then, have it xed
so it will be ready to warn you if there is a problem.
If it stays on, or comes on when you are driving, there
may be a problem with your traction control system
and your vehicle may need service. When this warning
light is on, the system will not limit wheel spin. Adjust
your driving accordingly.
