{Warning
Driving on a flat tire will
cause permanent damage to
the tire. Re-inflating a tire
after it has been driven on
while severely underinflated
or flat may cause a blowout
and a serious crash. Never
attempt to re-inflate a tire
that has been driven on
while severely underinflated
or flat. Have your dealer or
an authorized tire service
center repair or replace the
flat tire as soon as possible.
If a tire goes flat, avoid further
tire and wheel damage by
driving slowly to a level place,
well off the road, if possible.
Turn on the hazard warning
flashers. See Hazard Warning
Flashers 0145.

If the battery has run down,
try to use another vehicle and
some jumper cables to start
your vehicle. Be sure to use
the following steps to do it
safely.

accessories can expose you

Batteries can hurt you. They
can be dangerous because:
.They contain acid that can
burn you.
.They contain gas that can
explode or ignite.
.They contain enough
electricity to burn you.
Use eye protection when
handling the battery. If you
do not follow these steps
exactly, some or all of these
things can hurt you.
Caution
The vehicle is equipped with
an AGM/VRLA 12-volt
battery, which can be
damaged by using the
incorrect type of trickle

2. Get the vehicles closeenough so the jumper
cables can reach, but make
sure the vehicles are not
touching each other.
Caution
If the vehicles touch each
other while jump starting, a
ground connection may
occur that disables your
vehicle and/or damages the
electrical systems of one or
both vehicles.
To avoid the possibility of
the vehicles rolling, set the
parking brake firmly on both
vehicles involved in the jump
start procedure. Put the
vehicles into P (Park). If the
other vehicle has a manual
transmission, put the vehicle
in N (Neutral) before setting
the parking brakes.
3. Turn off both vehicles. Unplug unnecessary
accessories plugged into
the cigarette lighter or the accessory power outlet.
Turn off the radio and all
lamps that are not needed.
Caution
If any accessories are left on
or plugged in during the
jump starting procedure,
they could be damaged. The
repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle
warranty. Whenever
possible, turn off or unplug
all accessories on either
vehicle when jump starting.
4. Open the hood. See Hood 0310.
5. To open the lid, pull the
handle to disengage the
clips and remove the cover.

6. Remove the covers of thepositive and negative
terminals.
7. Locate the battery positive (+) terminal and
negative (−) grounding point.
8. Check that the jumper cables do not have loose or
missing insulation. If they do,
you could get a shock. The
vehicles could be
damaged too.
9. Connect one end of the red positive (+) cable to the
discharged battery
positive (+) terminal. Do not
let the other end touch
metal.
10. Connect the other end of the red positive (+) cable to
the good battery positive (+)
terminal.
11. Connect one end of the black negative (−) cable to
the good battery negative
(−) terminal.
Do not let the other end
touch anything until the
next step. 12. Connect the other end of
the negative (−) cable to the
discharged battery negative
(−) grounding point.
13. Now start the vehicle with the good battery and keep
the vehicle running for a
while.
14. Try to start the vehicle that had the dead battery. If it
will not start after a few
tries, it probably needs
service.
Caution
If the jumper cables are
connected or removed in the
wrong order, electrical
shorting may occur and
damage the vehicle. The
repairs would not be
covered by the vehicle
warranty. Always connect
and remove the jumper
cables in the correct order,
making sure that the cables
do not touch each other or
other metal. Jumper Cable Removal
Reverse the sequence exactly
when removing the jumper
cables.
After starting the disabled
vehicle and removing the
jumper cables, allow it to idle
for several minutes.
Towing the
Vehicle
Transporting a
Disabled Vehicle
Caution
Incorrectly transporting a
disabled vehicle may cause
damage to the vehicle. Use
proper tire straps to secure
the vehicle to the flatbed
tow truck. Do not strap or
hook to any frame,
underbody, or suspension
component not specified
below. Do not move vehicles
