Motoring & the Environment
Berlingo-2-VP_en_Chap02_eco-conduite_ed01-2016
Eco-driving is a range of everyday
practices that  allow  the  motorist  to Â
optimise
 their  fuel  consumption  and Â
C
o
2Â emissions.
Eco-driving
Optimise the use of your
gearbox
With a manual gearbox, move off gently  and  change  up  without  waiting. Â
During
 acceleration  change  up  early.
With
 an  automatic  or  electronic Â
gearbox,
 give  preference  to  automatic Â
mode
 and  avoid  pressing  the Â
accelerator
 pedal  heavily  or  suddenly.
The gear shift indicator invites you
to
engage  the  most  suitable  gear:  as Â
soon as the indication is displayed in
the
instrument  panel,  follow  it  straight Â
away
.
For
vehicles  fitted  with  an  electronic Â
or
 automatic  gearbox,  this  indicator Â
appears
 only  in  manual  mode.
Drive smoothly
Maintain a safe distance between
vehicles, use  engine  braking  rather Â
than
the  brake  pedal,  and  press  the Â
accelerator
 progressively. Â
These
Â
practices contribute towards a
reduction
 in  fuel  consumption  and  CO
2
emissions
Â
and
Â
also
Â
help
Â
to
Â
reduce
Â
the
Â
background
Â
traffic
Â
noise.
If
Â
your
Â
vehicle
Â
has
Â
cruise
Â
control,
Â
make Â
use
Â
of
Â
the
Â
system
Â
at

Â
(40

Â
when
Â
the
Â
traffic
Â
is
Â
flowing
Â
well.
Control the use of your
electrical equipment
Switch off the demisting and defrosting  controls,  if  not  automatic.
Switch off the heated seat as soon as
possible.
Switch
off  the  headlamps  and  front Â
foglamps
when  the  level  of  light  does Â
not
 require  their  use.

Â
close
Â
the
Â
