CHECKING LEVELS Brake fluid level To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew
the cap by two turns to allow the
pressure to drop. When the pressure
has dropped, remove the cap and top
up the level.
Oil level The reading will only be correct
if the vehicle is on level ground
and the engine has been off for
more than 15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when
the ignition is switched on using the oil
level indicator on the instrument panel,
or using the dipstick.
Between two oil changes, the con-
s u m p t i o n s h o u l d n o t e x c e e d 0 . 5 l i t r e
per 600 miles (1,000 km). T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d b e
between the “MAX” and “MIN”
marks.
If it is not, check the brake pad
wear.
Draining the circuit
Refer to the servicing booklet for details
of the interval for this operation.
Coolant level
The coolant level must be
measured when the engine is
cold and should be between
the “LOW” and “FULL” marks.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is regulated
by the fan. This can operate with the ig-
nition off.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n m a y
operate after the vehicle has been
switched off, even if the engine is
cold.
In addition, as the cooling system is
pressurised, wait at least one hour after
switching off the engine before carrying

In order to maintain the reliability of the
engine and emission control system,
the use of additives in the engine oil is
prohibited.

wise indicated.

Diesel additive level (Diesel
with particle emission filter)
The minimum level of this additive is in-
dicated by lighting of the service warn-
ing light, accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the multifunc-
tion display.
Topping up
It is imperative that this additive is
topped up by a CITROËN dealer with-
out delay.
Used products CHECKS
Battery Check the electrolyte level
regularly. If necessary, top up
the level with distilled water.
Check that the terminals are
clean and correctly tightened,
particularly in summer and winter.
When carrying out work on the battery,
refer to the “Practical information” sec-
tion for details of the precautions to be
taken before disconnecting the battery
and following its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger
compartment filter Refer to the servicing booklet
for details of the replacement
intervals for these compo-
nents.
Depending on the environ-
ment (e.g. dusty atmosphere) and the
use of the vehicle (e.g. city driving), re-
place them twice as often if necessary
(refer to the “Engines” paragraph).
A c l o g g e d p a s s e n g e r c o m p a r t m e n t fi l -
ter may have an adverse effect on the
performance of the air conditioning sys-
tem and generate undesirable odours. Oil filter

i d l e , y o u m a y , e x c e p t i o n a l l y , n o t i c e
the emission of water vapour at the
e x h a u s t o n a c c e l e r a t i o n . T h i s d o e s
not have any adverse effect on the
performance of the vehicle or on the
environment.
Avoid any prolonged contact of
u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s w i t h t h e s k i n .
M o s t o f t h e s e fl u i d s a r e h a r m f u l
to health or indeed very corrosive.
D o n o t d i s c a r d u s e d o i l o r fl u i d s i n t o
sewers or onto the ground.
Empty used oil into the containers
provided for this purpose in the
CITROËN network. D o n o t d i s c a r d t h e o i l fi l t e r t h r o u g h
public channels, deposit it in the con-
tainers dedicated to this use in the
CITROËN network.

Brake pads Brake wear depends on the
style of driving, particularly in
the case of vehicles used in
town, over short distances. It
may be necessary to have the
condition of the brakes checked, even
between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak on the circuit, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn. Brake disc wear status
For any information relating
to checking of the brake
disc wear status, contact a
CITROËN dealer.
Handbrake If the handbrake travel is too
long or if you notice a loss of
effectiveness of this system,
the handbrake must be
adjusted, even between two
services.
This system must be checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Only use products recommended by
CITROËN or products of equivalent
q u a l i t y a n d s p e c i fi c a t i o n s . In order to optimise the
operation of units as important
as the braking system,
CITROËN selects and offers very
s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compartment is
strictly prohibited.

Access to the fuses
Open the bonnet (refer to the «Access» section),
Press on the hook A to release the catch ,
Remove the cover completely,
Change the fuse (refer to the corresponding paragraph).

Spare fuses
The spare fuses are located under the engine compartment
f u s e b o x c o v e r . The cover does not contain spare fuses with an amper-
age of 7.5 A, 25 A or 30 A. If one of the fuses with these
amperages develops a fault, replace it with the following
fuse:
A 7.5 A fuse must be replaced with the
10 A spare fuse ,
a
25 A fuse with a
20 A spare fuse and a
30 A fuse with
the audio system fuse (N° 31) .

The battery A is located under the
bonnet on the left.
To gain access to it:
open the bonnet using the interior
l e v e r , t h e n t h e e x t e r i o r l e v e r ,
secure the bonnet strut.
BATTERY
Access to the battery
Connect the red cable to the positive
t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A ,
then to the positive terminal (+) of
the slave battery B .
Connect one end of the green or
black cable to the negative terminal
(-) of the slave battery B .
Connect the other end of the green
or black cable to an earth point C
on the broken down vehicle, as
far as possible from the battery
( f o r e x a m p l e , r i g h t - h a n d e n g i n e
mounting).
Start the engine of the assisting
vehicle.
Operate the starter, let the engine
run.
Wait until the engine returns to idle
and disconnect the cables.
Raise the front of the cover 1 to
release the three clips 2 .
Then pull the cover 1 towards you
to release the clip 3 and remove the
cover.
Check the electrolyte level regularly.
If necessary, top up the level with
distilled water.

Charging the battery using a
battery charger
Disconnect the battery from the
vehicle.
Remove the battery and place it in a
ventilated area.
Remove the top-up caps and top
up the level with distilled water if
necessary.
Connect the battery to the charger
observing the instructions for use
provided by the manufacturer and
start charging.
Disconnect the battery from the
charger and let it cool.
If necessary, top up the level with
distilled water.
Clean the top of the battery
carefully.
Put the top-up caps back in place.
Check that the terminals and
connectors are clean. If they are
covered with sulphate (whitish or
greenish deposit), remove them
and clean them.
Reconnect the battery starting with
the positive terminal (+). Do not disconnect the terminals
while the engine is running.
Do not charge the batteries
without disconnecting the
t e r m i n a l s fi r s t . Following reconnection of the
battery
Following reconnection of the battery,
switch on the ignition and wait 1 minute
before starting to permit initialisation of
the electronic systems. However, if slight
d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e n c o u n t e r e d f o l l o w i n g t h i s
operation, contact a CITROËN dealer.
Referring to the corresponding section,
you must yourself reinitialise:
- the one-touch electric windows,
- the sunroof,
- the satellite navigation system.
Avoid prolonged contact of the
electrolyte with the skin.
M o s t o f t h e s e fl u i d s a r e h a r m f u l
to health and very corrosive. It is advisable to disconnect the
battery if the vehicle is to be left
unused for more than one month.
The batteries contain harmful
substances such as sulphuric acid
and lead. They must be disposed of
in accordance with regulations and
must not, in any circumstances, be
discarded with household waste.
Take used remote control batteries
and vehicle batteries to a special
collection point.
When charging the battery, it is
normal to observe an increase in
temperature and bubbling of the
electrolyte.
Before disconnecting the battery
Wait 2 minutes after switching off the ig-
nition before disconnecting the battery.
Close the windows, the sunroof, the
doors and the tailgate before discon-
necting the battery.

TOWING
Access to the tools Having your vehicle towed on a
flatbed
Below the front bumper, install the
towing system on the towing eye 1 .
On the rear bumper, remove the
cover by pulling at the bottom using
the jack handle 2 .
Towing another vehicle
The towing eye and the tools are stored
in the storage compartment in the right-
hand boot trim.
To access them:
open the boot,
turn button A to the left,
remove the cover B ,
r e m o v e t h e fi x i n g b a n d C and take
out the tool bag
D containing the
tools,
take the towing eye and the tools
required out of the tool bag.
When being towed with the
engine off, there is no longer any
braking or steering assistance.
Place the gear lever in neutral.
Always have the vehicle
t o w e d o n a fl a t b e d .
Never have the vehicle towed
with the four wheels on the ground,
this could damage the transmission.
The vehicle must not be towed with
the front or rear wheels on the ground
even if it is in front “2WD” (2 wheel
drive) mode.
Screw in the towing eye fully using
the wheelbrace 3 .
Install the towbar.
Switch on the hazard warning lights
on the towed vehicle.
