Warning lamps
When the engine is running or the vehicle is being driven, illumination of one of the following warning lamps indicates a fault which requires action on the  part  of  the  driver.
Any
 fault  resulting  in  the  illumination  of  a  warning  lamp  must  be  investigated  further  by  reading  the  associated  message  in  the  screen.
If
 you  encounter  any  problems,  contact  a  CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified  workshop.

Alarm
Perimeter protection
The system checks for opening of the vehicle.
T he  alarm  is  triggered  if  anyone  tries  to  open  a Â

oor,  the  boot,  the  bonnet...
Self-protection function
The system checks for the putting out of service  of  its  components.
The
 alarm  is  triggered  if  the  battery,  the Â
c
entral control or the wires of the siren
are
 put  out  of  service  or  damaged.
Locking the vehicle with
alarm
Activation
F Switch off the ignition and get out of the vehicle.
F Press the  locking  button  on  the  r
emote  control.

Ignition switch
It allows the use of the vehicle's electric e
quipment  or  portable  devices  to  be  charged.
Once
 the  state  of  charge  of  the  battery  drops Â
t
o  the  reserve  level,  the  system  switches  to Â
e
nergy  economy  mode:  the  power  supply  is Â
c
ut  off  automatically  to  preserve  the  remaining Â
b
attery  charge.
Ignition on positionAnti-theft protection
Electronic engine immobiliser
The key contains an electronic chip which has a special  code.  When  the  ignition  is  switched Â
o
n,  this  code  must  be  recognised  in  order  for Â
s
tarting  to  be  possible.
This
 electronic  engine  immobiliser  locks  the Â
e
ngine  management  system  a  few  moments Â
a
fter  the  ignition  is  switched  off  and  prevents Â
s
tarting  of  the  engine  by  anyone  who  does  not Â
h
ave  the  key.In the event of a fault, you are
informed
 by  illumination  of  this Â
w
arning  lamp,  an  audible  signal  and  a  message Â
i
n  the  screen.
In
 this  case,  your  vehicle  will  not  start;  contact Â
a
 CITROËN  dealer  as  soon  as  possible.
Keep
 safely,  away  from  your  vehicle, Â
t
he  label  attached  to  the  keys  given  to Â
y
ou  on  acquisition  of  the  vehicle. Avoid
 attaching  heavy  objects  to  the Â
k
ey,  which  would  weigh  down  on  its Â
b
lade  in  the  ignition  switch  and  could Â
c
ause  a  malfunction.

In certain cases, you may have to apply more  force  to  the  steering  (wheels  on Â

ull  lock,  for  example).
Starting the engine
F With a  petrol  engine,  operate  the  starter  m
otor  by  turning  the  key  to  position  3
without
 pressing  the  accelerator  pedal, Â
u
ntil  the  engine  starts.  Once  the  engine  is Â
r
unning,  release  the  key. F

ith  a  Diesel  engine,  turn  the  key  to Â
p
osition 2
,  ignition  on,  to  operate  the Â
eng
ine

re-heating
 s
ystem.
With  the  parking  brake  applied  and  the  gearbox Â
i
n neutral or position N or P
:

epress  the  clutch  pedal  fully  (manual Â

earbox),
or

ress  the  brake  pedal  firmly  (electronic  or Â
a
utomatic  gearbox),
F Â
i
nsert  the  key  into  the  ignition  switch;  the Â
s
ystem  recognises  the  code,
F Â
u
nlock  the  steering  column  by Â
s
imultaneously  turning  the  steering  and Â
t
he key.
Wait until this warning lamp goes off in the i
nstrument  panel  then  operate  the  starter m
otor  by  turning  the  key  to  position 3
without
 pressing  the  accelerator  pedal,
 u
ntil  the  engine  starts.  Once  the  engine  is
 r
unning,  release  the  key.
If the engine does not start straight away,  switch  off  the  ignition.  Wait  a Â
f
ew  moments  before  operating  the Â
s
tarter  motor  again.  If  the  engine  does Â
n
ot  start  after  several  attempts,  do  not Â
k
eep  trying:  you  risk  damaging  the Â
s
tarter  motor  or  the  engine.  Contact Â
a
 CITROËN  dealer  or  a  qualified Â
w
orkshop.
In
 wintry  conditions,  the  warning  lamp Â
c
an  stay  on  for  a  longer  period.  When Â
t
he  engine  is  hot,  the  warning  lamp Â
d
oes  not  come  on. Never  leave  the  engine  running  in Â
a
n  enclosed  area  without  adequate Â
v
entilation:
 in
ternal
 c
ombustion
 e
ngines  emit  toxic  exhaust  gases, Â
s
uch  as  carbon  monoxide.  Danger  of Â
i
ntoxication  and  death.
In  very  severe  wintry  conditions Â
(
temperatures  below  -23°C),  to  ensure Â
t
he  correct  operation  and  durability  of Â
t
he  mechanical  components  of  your Â
v
ehicle,  engine  and  gearbox,  it  is  n
ecessary  to  leave  the  engine  running  f
or  4  minutes  before  moving  off.
In
 temperate  conditions,  do  not  leave Â
t
he  engine  at  idle  to  warm  up  but  move Â
o
ff  straight  away  and  drive  at  moderate Â
s
peed.

Never switch off the ignition before the vehicle  is  at  a  complete  stop.  With  the Â

ngine  off,  the  braking  and  steering Â
a
ssistance  systems  are  also  cut  off:  risk Â

f  loss  of  control  of  the  vehicle.
