The driver must ensure that passengers use the  seat  belts  correctly  and  that  they  are  all Â
f
astened  before  setting  off.
Wherever
you  are  seated  in  the  vehicle, Â
a
lways fasten your seat belt, even for short

Airbags
Designed to contribute towards the safety of the  occupants  in  the  event  of  violent  collisions. Â
T
he  airbags  supplement  the  action  of  the  force-
limiting
 seat  belts.
If
a  collision  occurs,  the  electronic  detectors Â
r
ecord  and  analyse  the  front  and  side  impacts Â
s
ustained  in  the  impact  detection  zones:
-
Â
i
n  the  case  of  a  serious  impact,  the  airbags Â
a
re  deployed  instantly  and  contribute Â
t
owards  better  protection  of  the  occupants Â
o
f  the  vehicle;  immediately  after  the  impact, Â
t
he  airbags  deflate  rapidly  so  that  they Â
d
o  not  hinder  visibility  or  the  exit  of  the Â
o
ccupants,
-
Â
i
n  the  case  of  a  minor  or  rear  impact  or  in Â
c
ertain  roll-over  conditions,  the  airbags Â
m
ay  not  be  deployed;  the  seat  belt  alone Â
c
ontributes  towards  providing  your Â
p
rotection  in  these  situations.
The airbags do not operate when the
ignition is switched off. The
deployment  of  an  airbag  is Â
a
ccompanied  by  a  slight  emission Â
o
f  smoke  and  a  noise,  due  to  the Â
d
etonation  of  the  pyrotechnic  charge Â
i
ncorporated  in  the  system.
This
smoke  is  not  harmful,  but  sensitive Â
i
ndividuals  may  experience  slight Â
ir
ritation.
The
 detonation  noise  associated  with Â
t
he  deployment  of  an  airbag  may  result Â
i
n  a  slight  loss  of  hearing  for  a  short Â
t
ime.
This
equipment  will  only  deploy  once. Â
I
f  a  second  impact  occurs  (during  the Â
s
ame  or  a  subsequent  accident),  the Â
a
irbag  will  not  be  deployed  again.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact  zone.
B. S ide  impact  zone.
Front airbags
Deployment
The airbags are deployed, except the passenger's  front  airbag  if  it  is  deactivated,  in  the e
vent  of  a  serious  front  impact  to  all  or  part  of  the
 f
ront  impact  zone  A,
 in  the  longitudinal  centreline
 o
f  the  vehicle  on  a  horizontal  plane  and  directed
 f
rom  the  front  to  the  rear  of  the  vehicle.
The
front  airbag  inflates  between  the  thorax  and
 h
ead  of  the  front  occupant  of  the  vehicle  and  the
 s
teering  wheel,  driver's  side,  and  the  dashboard,
 p
assenger's  side  to  cushion  their  for ward
 m
ovement.
System
which  protects  the  driver  and  front Â
p
assenger  in  the  event  of  a  serious  front  impact Â
i
n  order  to  limit  the  risk  of  injury  to  the  head  and Â
t
horax.
The  driver's  airbag  is  fitted  in  the  centre  of  the Â
s
teering  wheel;  the  front  passenger's  airbag  is Â
f
itted  in  the  dashboard  above  the  glove  box.

Do

t
he  inflation  trajectory  of  the  airbags;  this Â
c
ould  cause  injuries  during  their  deployment.
Never
modify  the  original  definition  of  your Â
v
ehicle,  particularly  in  the  area  directly Â
a

After
an  accident  or  if  the  vehicle  has  been Â

Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes  or  resting  your  hands  on  the  centre Â

Do
not  fit  or  attach  anything  to  the  steering Â

i
njuries  with  deployment  of  the  airbags.
Advice
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats, compatible  with  the  deployment  the  lateral Â
a
irbags.  For  information  on  the  range  of  seat Â
c
overs suitable for your vehicle, you can
contact
 a  CITROËN dealer.
For
more  information  on  accessories,  refer Â
t
o  the  corresponding  section.
Do
not  fix  or  attach  anything  to  the  seat Â
b
acks  (clothing...).  This  could  cause  injury Â
t
o  the  chest  or  arms  if  the  lateral  airbag  is Â
d
eployed.
Do
not  sit  with  the  upper  part  of  the  body  any Â
n
earer  to  the  door  than  necessary.
Curtain airbags
Do not fix or attach anything to the roof. This could  cause  injury  to  the  head  if  the  curtain Â
a
irbag  is  deployed.
If
fitted  on  your  vehicle,  do  not  remove  the Â
g
rab  handles  installed  on  the  roof,  they  play Â
a
part  in  securing  the  curtain  airbags.
For the airbags to be fully effective, observe the safety recommendations below:

The incorrect installation of a child seat in a vehicle  compromises  the  child's  protection  in Â
t
he  event  of  an  accident.
Check
that  there  is  no  seat  belt  or  seat  belt Â

Remember
to  fasten  the  seat  belts  or  the Â

relation
to  the  child's  body  to a minimum,
even
 for  short  journeys.
For
the  installation  of  a  child  seat  using  a Â

c
hild  seat  firmly  against  the  seat  of  your Â
v
ehicle.  If  your  front  passenger  seat  is Â
a
djustable,  move  it  for ward  if  necessary.
At the rear seats, always leave sufficient
space
 between  the  front  seat  and:
