MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
ON–VEHICLE SERVICE
WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM
(Left–Hand Drive Shown, Right–Hand Drive
Similar)
Removal Procedure
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the cap to reveal the wiper arm nut, if nec-
essary.
3. Remove the nut from the wiper arm.
4. Pull the wiper arm off.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the wiper arm.
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
2. Secure the wiper arm with the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper arm nut to 22 NSm (16 lb–ft).
3. Install the wiper arm nut cap, if necessary.
4. Close the hood.
WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
(Left–Hand Drive Shown, Right–Hand Drive

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the left–side portion of the cowl vent grille.
Refer to Section 9R, Body Front End.
3. Remove the nut and the washer that secure the
wiper arm linkage to the motor drive shaft.

4. Pry the wiper arm linkage off the motor drive shaft.
5. Remove the nuts.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector.
7. Remove the bolts and the wiper motor.
Installation Procedure
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
1. Install the wiper motor with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper motor bolts to 8 NSm (71 lb–in).
2. Connect the electrical connector.
3. Press the wiper arm linkage onto the motor drive
shaft.
4. Install the wiper arm linkage to the motor drive shaft
with the washer and the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper arm linkage nut to 5 NSm (44 lb–in).
5. Install the left side portion of the cowl vent grille.
Refer to Section 9R, Body Front End.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE
(Typical)
Removal Procedure
1. Rotate the wiper blade on the arm.
2. While pressing the retainer clip, slide the wiper
blade down the wiper arm and remove the blade.

2. Remove the front left wheel. Refer to Section 2E,
Tires and Wheels.
3. Remove the bolts and the screws and the front
wheel well splash shield.
4. Disconnect the washer hose from the washer reser-
voir.
5. Remove the washer hose.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the washer hose.
2. Connect the washer hose to the washer pump.
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
3. Install the front wheel well splash shield with the
bolts and the screws.
Tighten
Tighten the wheel well splash shield bolts to 1.5 NSm
(13 lb–in).
4. Install the front left wheel. Refer to Section 2E,
Tires and Wheels.
5. Connect the windshield washer hose to the washer
nozzles.
REAR WINDOW WIPER ARM
(HATCHBACK)
Removal Procedure
1. Open the wiper arm access cap.
2. Remove the nut and the rear wiper arm.

Installation Procedure
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
1. Install the rear wiper arm with the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper arm nut to 11 NSm (97 Ib–in).
2. Close the wiper arm access cap.
REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR
(HATCHBACK)
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the rear window wiper arm. Refer to ”Rear
Window Wiper Arm” in this section.
3. Remove the hatchback door lower garnish molding.
Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
4. Remove the bolts and the rear wiper motor.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the electrical connector.
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
2. Install the rear wiper motor with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the wiper motor bolts to 9 NSm (80 lb–in).
3. Install the hatchback door lower garnish molding.
Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
4. Install the rear window wiper arm. Refer to ”Rear
Window Wiper Arm” in this section.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
REAR WINDOW WASHER NOZZLE
(HATCHBACK)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the hachback door lower garnish molding.
Refer toSection 9G, Interior Trim.
2. Remove the washer hose from the nozzle.
3. Remove the washer nozzle.

7. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to
”Instrument Cluster Trim Panel” in this section.
8. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to ”Instru-
ment Cluster” in this section.
9. Remove the glove box and the glove box housing.
Refer to ”Glove Box” in this section.
10. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Section 9G, In-
terior Trim.
11. Remove the screws and the instrument panel side
covers.
12. Remove the screw and the instrument panel fuse
block.
13. Remove the nuts and the bolts securing the steer-
ing column.
14. Disconnect the steering column electrical connec-
tor.
15. Lower the steering column.
16. Remove bolts and screws.
17. Remove the connecting pieces.

4. Install the instrument panel screws behind the glove
box brace.
5. Install the bolt securing the middle of the instrument
panel to the body.
Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel–to–body bolts to 22
NSm (16 lb–ft).
6. Install the connecting pieces with bolts and screws.
Tighten
Tighten the connecting pieces bolts to 22 NSm (16 lb–
ft).
7. Raise the steering column.
8. Connect the steering column electrical connector.
9. Install the nuts and the bolts securing the steering
column.
Tighten
Tighten the steering column nuts to 22 NSm (16 lb–ft).
Tighten the steering column bolts to 22 NSm (16 lb–ft).

4. Install the screws to the rear portion of the floor
console.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Install the glove box, instrument panel lower cover,
cigar lighter trim panel and stereo cassette player.
7. Install the console cover.
FLOOR CARPET
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Section 9H,
Seats.
3. Remove the left and the right rear rocker trim pan-
els. Refer to ”Rear Rocker Trim Panel” in this sec-
tion.
4. Remove the bolts and the left and the right lower
front seat belt anchors from the B–pillar.
5. Remove the left and the right front rocker trim pan-
els.
6. Remove the left and the right lower B–pillar trim
panels. Refer to ”Lower B–Pillar Trim Panel” in this
section.
7. Remove the front seats. Refer to Section 9H,
Seats.
8. Remove the left and the right kick panels. Refer to
”Kick Panel” in this section.
9. Remove the floor console. Refer to ”Floor Console”
in this section.
10. Remove the gearshift housing bolts and nuts and
reposition the gearshift housing.
11. Remove the floor carpet.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the floor carpet.
2. Install the gearshift housing with the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the gearshift housing bolts and nuts to 8 NSm
(70 lb–in).

4. Install the seat trims to its original position.
5. Install the front bucket seat in the vehicle. Refer to
”Front Bucket Seats” in this section.
FRONT SEAT CUSHION
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to
”Front Bucket Seats” in this section.
2. Remove the seat trims.
3. Remove the seat cushion nuts.
4. Remove the cushion from the seat track.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the cushion onto the seat track.
Notice : Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other
may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasten-
ers to prevent premature corrosion.
2. Install the seat cushion with the nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the front seat cushion nuts to 12 NSm (106 lb–
in).
3. Install the seat trims.
4. Install the front seat in the vehicle. Refer to ”Front
Bucket Seats” in this section.
LUMBAR SUPPORT LEVER
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the lumbar support lever.
