General Motors (Metro & Tracker)
1) Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Remove A/C compressor. Drain, measure
and discard refrigerant oil from old compressor. Drain refrigerant oil
from replacement compressor. Add refrigerant oil to replacement
compressor equal to amount drained from oil compressor.
2) Add specified amount of refrigerant oil to components that
are replaced during compressor replacement. See NIPPONDENSO 10-
CYLINDER COMPONENT REFRIGERANT OIL CAPACITIES table. Install A/C
compressor. Evacuate and charge system. Perform leak test.

Chrysler Corp. (Avenger & Sebring Coupe)
1) Remove A/C compressor. Drain and measure oil from old
compressor. Replacement compressor is shipped with 3.4 ounces of oil.
From replacement compressor, drain the difference between system oil
capacity and amount of oil drained from replacement compressor.
2) Add specified amount of refrigerant oil to components that
are replaced during compressor replacement. See 10PA17/10PA17C
COMPONENT REFRIGERANT OIL CAPACITIES table. When replacing components
listed, DO NOT exceed system total capacity.
Chrysler Corp. & Jeep (Caravan, Concorde, Grand Cherokee,
Intrepid, LHS, Neon, Town & Country, Voyager & 300M)
1) Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect refrigerant hoses at
compressor. Remove compressor bolts and A/C compressor.
2) Remove suction port on top of A/C compressor, and drain
and measure oil. On Grand Cherokee, add the same amount of oil drained
from old compressor to replacement compressor.
3) On all other models, add amount of oil to compressor equal
to the total system capacity minus amount retained in components that
are not being replaced. See 10PA17/10PA17C COMPONENT REFRIGERANT OIL
CAPACITIES table. Install A/C compressor. Evacuate and charge A/C

recovery/recycling equipment. Measure amount of oil drained during A/C
system discharge. Disconnect refrigerant hoses at compressor. Remove
compressor bolts and A/C compressor.
2) Drain and measure oil from suction and discharge ports of
old compressor. Drain oil from replacement compressor and save. Add
the same amount of refrigerant oil to replacement compressor as was
drained from old compressor. When repairing an excessive leak in A/C
system, add one ounce additional oil to compressor.
3) Add proper amount of refrigerant oil to any components
being replaced. DO NOT add more refrigerant oil than A/C system total.

Install compressor. Evacuate, charge and leak test A/C system. Ensure
A/C system operates properly.

( 1) - Ensure replacement compressor contains the same amount of

ZEXEL ROTARY VANE
1) Slowly discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Remove old A/C compressor. Install
compressor oil drain Adapters (SA9149AC-5 and SA9149AC-6) to service
ports. Drain compressor oil from high-side port first and then low-
side port. Rotate compressor clutch plate in both directions to remove
oil from compressor. Measure oil amount drained, and discard oil.
2) New compressors are shipped with 5 ounces of refrigerant
oil and nitrogen gas. Open compressor sealing plugs slowly to release
nitrogen gas. Drain and measure oil into a clean container (this oil
will be used in new compressor).
3) Ensure amount of refrigerant oil in replacement compressor
is the same as amount removed from old compressor plus amount removed
during refrigerant recovery. This represents total system capacity,
minus amount retained in components that have not been replaced. See
ZEXEL COMPONENT REFRIGERANT OIL CAPACITIES table. Install compressor.
Evacuate, charge and leak test A/C system. Ensure A/C system operates
properly.

CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
Removal (Except Grand Cherokee)
Remove compressor shaft bolt. Remove clutch plate and shims.
Tighten a 10-mm bolt into clutch hub bolt hole to remove clutch hub
and shims. Remove snap ring, and remove rotor and pulley assembly.
Remove snap ring, and disconnect clutch coil lead. Remove clutch coil.
Installation
1) Install clutch coil so pin in back of coil aligns with
hole in front compressor housing. Connect clutch coil lead. Install
snap ring with bevel side facing outward. Ensure snap ring is properly
seated in groove. Install rotor and pulley assembly. Install shims and
snap ring. Install clutch hub.
2) Install dial indicator at front of clutch hub to measure
clutch hub air gap. Using battery voltage, energize clutch coil.
Proper air gap is 0.014-0.026" (0.35-0.65 mm). Add or remove shims to
obtain correct air gap. Install compressor shaft bolt. On Concord and
Intrepid, tighten compressor shaft bolt to 11-15 ft. lbs. (15-20 N.m).\
On all other models, tighten compressor shaft bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (14
N.m).
NOTE: On Grand Cherokee, compressor clutch can be serviced in
vehicle without discharging A/C system.
Removal (Grand Cherokee)
Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Remove
serpentine drive belt. Remove compressor shaft bolt. Using a plastic
mallet, tap clutch plate to loosen from compressor shaft. Remove
clutch plate, shaft key and shims. See Fig. 5. Remove snap ring, and
remove pulley assembly. Remove snap ring, and disconnect clutch coil
lead. Remove clutch coil.
Installation
1) Install clutch coil so pin in back of coil aligns with
hole in front compressor housing. Connect clutch coil lead. Install
snap ring with bevel side facing outward. Ensure snap ring is properly
seated in groove. Align snap ring eyelets to the left or right of
clutch coil pin. Install rotor and pulley assembly. Install shims and
snap ring. Install clutch hub.
2) Hold clutch plate tight against shims and measure air gap
between clutch plate and pulley face. Air gap should be 0.014-0.026"
(0.35-0.65 mm). Add or remove shims as necessary. Install compressor
shaft bolt. Tighten compressor shaft bolt to 115 INCH lbs. (13 N.m).
To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
3) After completing compressor clutch installation, start
engine. Set A/C-heater control to recirculated air mode and high
blower motor speed. Set engine speed to 1500-2000 RPM. Cycle
compressor on for 5 seconds and off for 5 seconds, about 20 times to
break-in clutch.
SHAFT SEAL
NOTE: Shaft seal replacement procedure is for 10PA17C compressor.
Shaft seal replacement procedure for 10PA17 compressor is not
available.
Removal
1) Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Remove A/C compressor. Drain oil from
compressor, and measure amount drained. Remove clutch hub, shims,
rotor and pulley assembly, and clutch coil. See CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. See

2) Remove front housing. Remove felt holder and felt washer
from front housing. Remove shaft seal snap ring. Position front
housing (nose up) on cardboard, placed on a flat surface. Using brass
drift, press shaft seal from front housing.
Installation
1) Lubricate new shaft seal with refrigerant oil. DO NOT
touch sealing surfaces. Using a 21-mm socket, press seal into front
housing, and install snap ring. Ensure shaft seal "O" ring side is
facing the front housing (away from compressor). Install felt washer
into felt holder. Using a 14-mm deep socket, install felt washer and
felt holder.
2) Lubricate front housing "O" ring with refrigerant oil.
Install shaft seal protector on compressor shaft. Install new front
housing "O" ring on compressor assembly.
3) Install front housing on compressor assembly. Ensure dowel
pins are aligned. Use care when guiding shaft seal protector through
seal opening. Remove shaft seal protector.
4) Install through-bolts and new brass washers. Using an
INCH-lb. torque wrench, check compressor shaft rotating torque.
Rotating torque should be 45 INCH lbs. (5 N.m) or less. Install clutch\
coil and check clutch hub air gap. See CLUTCH ASSEMBLY.
5) Using refrigerant oil, add same amount of oil to
compressor as was drained from it. Install A/C compressor. Evacuate
and charge system. Perform leak test.

Installation (Cherokee & Wrangler)
1) Install clutch coil and clutch coil snap ring. Install
clutch coil wire harness to compressor housing. Align pulley and
bearing assembly on front compressor housing hub. Using Installer (C-
6871), press pulley and bearing assembly onto compressor housing hub.
Thread installer on compressor shaft and tighten nut until pulley
assembly is seated.
2) Install external front snap ring with beveled side facing
outward. Ensure snap ring is properly seated. Install compressor shaft
key and original shims. Using a plastic mallet and Driver (C-6463),
install clutch plate on compressor shaft. Tighten compressor shaft nut
to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m).
3) Using feeler gauge, measure air gap between clutch plate
and pulley assembly in several areas. Air gap should be 0.016-0.031"
(0.41-0.79 mm). If air gap is not within specification, adjust shim
thickness as necessary. If air gap is not consistent around clutch
plate, lightly pry up or tap down on clutch plate to make corrections.
To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
Installation (Dakota, Durango & Ram Pickup)
1) Install clutch coil and clutch coil snap ring. Install
clutch coil wire harness to compressor housing. Align pulley and
bearing assembly on front compressor housing hub.
2) Install Handle (6464) and Driver (6143) into pulley
assembly bearing cavity. Ensure outer edge of driver rests firmly on
inner race of bearing. Using hammer, install pulley and bearing
assembly. While tapping on handle, guide pulley and bearing assembly
to prevent binding. Ensure pulley assembly bottoms against compressor
housing. Install external snap ring.
3) Install original shim(s) and compressor shaft key. Use a
hammer and Shaft Protector (6141-2) to install clutch plate on
compressor shaft. Ensure clutch plate bottoms out on clutch shims.
Replace compressor shaft nut and tighten compressor shaft nut to 10
ft. lbs. (14 N.m).
4) Measure air gap between clutch plate and pulley assembly
in several areas. Air gap should be 0.016-0.031" (0.41-0.79 mm). If
air gap is not within specification, adjust shim thickness as
necessary. If air gap is not consistent around clutch plate, lightly
pry up or tap down on clutch plate to make corrections. To complete
installation, reverse removal procedure. Ensure A/C system operates
properly.
5) After completing compressor clutch installation, start
engine. Set A/C-heater control to recirculated air mode and high
blower motor speed. Set engine speed to 1500-2000 RPM. Cycle
compressor on for 5 seconds and off for 5 seconds, about 20 times to
break-in clutch.
Removal (Ford "F" Series Super Duty Pickup)
1) Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Discharge
A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment.
Disconnect clutch coil harness connector and remove compressor. Drain
oil from compressor, and measure amount drained.
2) Using Spanner Wrench (T70P-4067-A), hold clutch plate and\
remove compressor shaft nut. See Fig. 1. If necessary, use a steering
wheel puller to remove clutch plate and shim(s).
3) Using a flat-blade screwdriver, remove pulley assembly
bearing dust cover. Remove compressor shaft key and internal bearing
snap ring. Remove external front housing snap ring.
4) Install jaws of rotor puller into pulley assembly internal
bearing snap ring groove. Install shaft protector over compressor
shaft. Install puller flange plate on jaws. Install 2 puller bolts
through puller flange plate into jaws and hand tighten. Tighten pulley
center bolt clockwise and remove pulley assembly from compressor.

assembly towards right side of vehicle and remove rear A/C-heater
assembly.
5) To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure all wiring
and hoses are clear and not pinched. Tighten bolts and nuts to
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Removal (Ram Pickup - Front)
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system.
In engine compartment, remove coolant hoses from heater core tubes.
Remove coolant overflow bottle.
2) Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant
recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect refrigerant lines from
evaporator and plug or cover all openings in A/C system. Remove
instrument panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL. Remove Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) and position aside. DO NOT disconnect 60-pin connector
from PCM.
3) Remove attaching nuts from studs on engine compartment
side of dash panel. Remove defrost duct. Disconnect electrical
connectors. Remove attaching nuts from studs in passenger compartment
side of dash panel. Remove A/C-heater assembly from vehicle. See
Fig. 5 .
4) Place A/C-heater assembly upside-down on work bench.
Remove screw securing floor duct to bottom of A/C-heater assembly and
slide floor duct off of center heat duct adapter. Unsnap center heat
duct adapter from bottom of A/C-heater assembly housing. Remove screw
hidden behind adapter. Remove remaining screws and separate A/C-heater
assembly.
Installation
Ensure mode door pivot pins are properly inserted in holes.
To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
A/C-HEATER CONTROL PANEL R & I
Removal & Installation (Dakota & Durango)
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. On models equipped with
A/T, unlock ignition switch. Set parking brake and place gear selector
lever in "L" position. If equipped, set tilt steering column in lowest
position.
2) On all models, carefully pry bezel away from instrument
panel to disengage clips. Unplug connectors from cigarette lighter and
auxiliary power outlet. Disconnect fog light switch (if equipped).
Remove A/C-heater control panel screws.
3) Pull control panel outward enough to disconnect wiring
connector, vacuum harness, and temperature control cable. Remove A/C-
heater control panel. To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust
temperature control cable. See TEMPERATURE CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT .
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup)
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Reach under driver's
side of instrument panel, near transmission tunnel and unplug A/C-
heater control panel to A/C-heater assembly vacuum harness connector.
Disconnect vacuum harness from center air duct.
2) On models equipped with A/T, unlock ignition switch. Set
parking brake and place gear selector lever in "L" position. If
equipped, set tilt steering column in lowest position.
3) On all models, remove screw securing cluster bezel to
instrument panel. See Fig. 6. Carefully pry bezel away from instrument
panel to disengage clips. Unplug connectors from cigarette lighter and
auxiliary power outlet.
4) Remove 4 screws attaching A/C-heater control panel. Pull
control panel outward enough to disconnect wiring connector, vacuum
harness and temperature control cable. Remove A/C-heater control

install, reverse removal procedure.
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup - Front)
Blower motor resistor is located under glove box, attached to
blower motor housing. See Fig. 5. Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove blower motor resistor connector. Remove resistor retaining
screws. Remove blower motor resistor. To install, reverse removal
procedure.
BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH (REAR)
Removal & Installation (Durango)
Disconnect negative battery cable. Pry above indentations at
outer perimeter of rear blower motor switch. Pull rear blower motor
switch and disconnect electrical connector. Remove rear blower motor
switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
COMPRESSOR
Removal & Installation
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Discharge A/C system,
using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect
refrigerant lines and plug or cover all openings in A/C system.
2) Remove drive belt. Disconnect compressor electrical leads.
Remove compressor mounting nuts and bolts. Remove compressor. Drain
oil from compressor, and record amount of oil drained.
3) To install, reverse removal procedure. Using new
refrigerant oil, add to compressor the same amount of oil drained from
it. Evacuate and charge A/C system.
CONDENSER
NOTE: Before removing condenser, note location of radiator and
condenser air seals. If air seals are not installed properly,
A/C and engine cooling systems will not perform properly.
Removal
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Discharge A/C system,
using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect
A/C fittings at inlet and outlet of condenser. Plug or cover all
openings in A/C system.
2) On Dakota, remove bolts securing radiator and fan shroud
to inside of upper radiator crossmember. Remove top mounting bolts
securing condenser to upper crossmember. Tilt top of radiator and fan
shroud toward engine.
3) On Ram Pickup (gasoline engine), remove bolts securing
condenser upper mounting brackets to outside of upper radiator
crossmember. Tilt condenser away from engine compartment far enough to
grasp top of condenser with both hands. On Ram Pickup (diesel engine),\
remove bolts securing condenser to charge air cooler. On all models,
lift condenser assembly from vehicle.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Install new "O" rings
to fittings. Fill cooling system. Evacuate and charge A/C system.
EVAPORATOR CORE & HEATER CORE
Removal & Installation (Dakota & Durango - Front)
Remove instrument panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL. Remove A/C-
heater assembly. See A/C-HEATER ASSEMBLY. With A/C-heater housing
removed, remove housing cover. Remove evaporator core or heater core

from housing. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install new "O"
rings to A/C fittings. Evacuate and charge A/C system.
Removal & Installation (Durango - Rear Evaporator Core)
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Discharge A/C system,
using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Remove
headliner from passenger compartment of vehicle. Remove sun visors and
sun visor arm supports.
2) Remove coat hooks, overhead assist handle and dome light.
If equipped, remove overhead console. Remove air outlet bezel from
rear A/C-heater assembly. Remove rear blower motor switch. Remove
upper liftgate opening trim. Disengage "A", "B", "C", and "D" pillar
trim as necessary to prevent trim panel interference.
3) Move second and third row seats to cargo position. Move
front seats to full recline position. Remove headliner fasteners.
Carefully bow headliner and remove through lift gate opening.
4) Disconnect "B" pillar drain hoses from "Y" fittings.
Disconnect "B" pillar refrigerant lines and plug or cover all openings
in A/C system. Remove lower A/C-heater assembly cover. Remove screws
securing refrigerant tube and retaining strap to right side of upper
housing cover. Remove evaporator core. To install, reverse removal
procedure. Install new "O" rings to A/C fittings. Evacuate and charge
A/C system.
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup - Front)
1) Remove and disassemble A/C-heater housing. See
A/C-HEATER ASSEMBLY . Separate halves of A/C-heater housing and remove
top half. Remove evaporator or heater core from housing.
2) To install, reverse removal procedure. Install new "O"
rings to A/C fittings. Evacuate and charge A/C system. Fill cooling
system. On 5.9L diesel engine, engine is equipped with a one-way check
valve. DO NOT run engine while filling cooling system. Fill engine
with engine turned off.
INSTRUMENT PANEL
Removal & Installation (Dakota & Durango)
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable air bag system.
See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article. Place front wheels in straight-
ahead position. Remove sill trim from both doorways. Remove kick panel
covers from both sides of vehicle. Remove mounting screws for hood
release handle.
2) Remove steering column trim panel and support bracket.
Remove tilt steering column lever (if equipped). Remove upper and
lower shrouds from steering column. Unplug driver's side air bag
module. Loosen multifunction switch wiring harness connector screw and
disconnect from switch. Screw will remain in connector.
3) Disconnect PRNDL cable. Disconnect shift cable from
steering column. Remove steering coupler lock pin. Remove toe plate
retaining screws. Remove steering column mounting bolts and remove
steering column from vehicle.
4) Remove screw from bulkhead wiring harness connector and
disconnect. Disconnect 2 body wiring harness connectors located next
to bulkhead connector. Disconnect 3 wiring harness connectors, from
junction block, located nearest to dash panel. Disconnect brake light
switch connector. Disconnect Rear Wheel Anti-Lock (RWAL) brake module
(if equipped), located near steering column support brackets.
5) Disconnect plastic retainer clip from parking brake
linkage rod, located at back of parking brake release handle. Remove
rod end from parking brake handle. Remove instrument panel center
support bracket. Unplug vacuum harness connector located at left end
of A/C-heater housing. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM)
connector.

6) Remove glove box. Reach through glove box opening and
disconnect antenna coaxial cable connector. Disconnect blower motor
connector located above glove box opening, near support brace for A/C-
heater housing. Disconnect radio ground strap. Loosen instrument panel
roll down bracket bolts about 2 turns, located at lower corners on
both sides of instrument panel. Remove 5 screws across top of dash
panel at base of windshield, removing center screw last.
7) Roll down instrument panel and install a temporary support
hook that is about 18" (457 mm) in length. Install hook from center
hole in instrument panel to center hole of dash panel. Pull lower
instrument panel outward until both roll down bracket bolts are in
slotted roll down position. Instrument panel should now be supported
and away from firewall.
8) Disconnect 2 door harness connectors, located on a bracket
near right end of instrument panel. Disconnect blower motor resistor.
Disconnect temperature control cable from A/C-heater housing and
remove from housing. See Fig. 5. Disconnect demister duct flexible
hose from A/C-heater housing.
9) Ensure instrument panel is free and clear for removal.
With the aid of an assistant, remove temporary support hook. Lift
instrument panel off of roll down bracket bolts and remove from
vehicle.
10) To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure all wiring
and hoses are clear and not pinched. Tighten bolts and nuts to
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Enable air bag system. See
AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article.
Removal & Installation (Ram Pickup)
1) Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article.
Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove left
and right kick panel trim. Remove 5 screws and knee bolster/steering
column cover. Remove hood release and parking brake release handle
screws from lower instrument panel support. Remove 6 screws and
instrument panel support. Disconnect air bag connector at lower left
corner of instrument panel.
2) Pull PRNDL cable and twist to remove from position arm.
Push tab on bottom of cable retainer upward, then squeeze sides to
remove retainer from column. Remove tilt lever (tilt column only).
Remove both upper and lower shrouds from column. Remove lower fixed
column shroud. Loosen multifunction switch connector screw. Screw will
remain in connector.
3) Remove remaining steering column electrical connectors.
Remove air bag wiring harness from steering column wiring trough.
Remove wiring trough from steering column. Remove 3 toe plate nuts and
washers.
4) Remove 2 nuts and washers attaching steering column
bracket to instrument panel steering column support bracket. Allow
column to lower and rest on seat. Remove 2 screws from bottom of Air
Bag Control Module (ACM) cover. Remove 4 screws holding ACM to
transmission tunnel.
5) Disconnect wiring at ACM. Disconnect instrument panel left
side wiring connectors. Remove screw holding brake release to bottom
of instrument panel. Disconnect instrument panel right side wiring
connectors, which includes 2 connectors attached to A/C-heater
assembly housing, courtesy light connector, antenna cable and 2 body
connectors. Disconnect vacuum harness from A/C-heater system.
6) Remove 5 screws holding instrument panel to dash. Loosen
lower instrument panel pivot bolts. Roll instrument panel downward.
Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
7) To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure all wiring
and hoses are clear and not pinched. Tighten bolts and nuts to
specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Enable air bag system. See
AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article.

TRIP COUNTER displays "0", return to appropriate test(s). If DTC
SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER displays one or more, repair is complete.
Go to step 9).
3) If coming to this test from a mis-fire DTC test, go step
7). If coming to this test from other than a mis-fire DTC test, use
scan tool to monitor pretest enabling conditions until all conditions
have been met. Once all enabling conditions are met, observe
appropriate monitor for DTC on scan tool and go to next step.
4) Using scan tool, monitor SIMILAR CONDITIONS to attempt to
duplicate conditions that vehicle was operating at when DTC was set.
If conditions can be duplicated, GOOD TRIP COUNTER will change to one
or more. Monitor operation may be observed on scan tool. All specified
enabling conditions for specified DTC must be met before PCM will
operate monitor. Go to next step.
5) Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Start engine and allow
it to idle for 2 minutes while monitoring scan tool. If STARTS SINCE
SET and DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER change to one or more, repair
is complete. Go to step 9). If STARTS SINCE SET and DTC SPECIFIC GOOD
TRIP COUNTER do not change to one or more, go to next step.
6) Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTC exists, return to
appropriate test(s). If no other DTC exists, go to next step.
7) Using scan tool, monitor SIMILAR CONDITIONS to attempt to
duplicate conditions that vehicle was operating at when DTC was set.
If conditions can be duplicated, MISFIRE GOOD TRIP COUNTER will change
to one or more. If MISFIRE GOOD TRIP COUNTER changes to one or more,
test is complete. Go to step 9). If MISFIRE GOOD TRIP COUNTER does not
change to one or more, go to next step.
8) Using scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTC exists, return to
appropriate test(s). If no other DTC exists, go to next step.
9) Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, erase
DTCs. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool. Test is complete.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR, GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID &
TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR
NOTE: Transmission fluid temperature sensor is integral with
governor pressure sensor.
Removal
1) Raise and support vehicle. Drain transmission fluid.
Remove transmission oil pan and filter. Disconnect harness connectors
from governor pressure solenoid and sensor.
2) Remove pressure solenoid retainer-to-governor body screws.
Separate solenoid retainer from governor and pull solenoid from
governor body.
3) Remove governor body-to-valve body bolts. Separate
governor body from valve body. Remove governor body and gasket. Remove
retainer clip holding pressure sensor to governor body and remove
pressure sensor.
Installation
1) Clean all gasket surfaces. Lubricate NEW "O" ring with ATF
and install on pressure sensor. Push pressure sensor into governor
body and install retainer clip. Position governor body on valve body
with NEW gasket and install governor body-to-valve body bolts.
2) Lubricate NEW "O" ring with ATF and install on pressure
solenoid. Push solenoid into governor body. Install solenoid retainer.
Reconnect harness connectors to pressure solenoid and sensor. To
complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
