To Connect the Booster Cables
WARNING: If the engine is runningwhile the hood is open, stay clear ofmoving engine components. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not connect thenegative jumper cable to any other partof your vehicle. Use the ground point.
Park the booster vehicle close to the hoodof the disabled vehicle, making sure thetwo vehicles do not touch.
1.Connect the positive (+) jumper cableto the positive (+) terminal of thedischarged battery.
2.Connect the other end of the positive(+) jumper cable to the positive (+)terminal of the booster vehicle battery.
3.Connect the negative (-) jumper cableto the negative (-) terminal of thebooster vehicle battery.
4.Make the final connection of thenegative (-) jumper cable to the groundpoint of the disabled vehicle's engine,as shown in the following illustration.
To Start the Engine
1.Start the engine of the booster vehicleand rev the engine moderately, or pressthe accelerator gently to keep yourengine speed between 2000 and 3000RPM, as shown in your tachometer
2.Start the engine of the disabled vehicle.
3.Once the disabled vehicle has beenstarted, run both vehicle engines for anadditional three minutes beforedisconnecting the jumper cables.
Remove the jumper cables in the reverseorder that they were connected.
Note:Do not switch the headlamps onwhen disconnecting the cables. The peakvoltage could blow the bulbs.

Attaching the Towing Eye (If Equipped)
WARNING: Make sure that thetowing eye is fully tightened. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury.
WARNING: You must switch theignition on when your vehicle is beingtowed.
1.Carefully remove the front or reartowing eye attachment point cover.
2.Install the towing eye.
Note: The towing eye has a left-handthread. Turn it counterclockwise to installit.
3.To remove, reverse the installationprocedure.
Towing Eye Location (If Equipped)
The towing eye is in the spare wheelstorage tray. If your vehicle does not havea towing eye, one can be purchased at yourdealer.
Note:You must carry the towing eye in yourvehicle at all times.
TOWING POINTS - 2.0L
ECOBOOST™
Your vehicle comes equipped with fixedfront recovery hooks. These hooks shouldnever have a load applied to them greaterthan the gross vehicle weight rating of yourvehicle.
Note:When recovering your vehicle, werecommend using both front hooks whenpossible to minimize damage to the vehicle.
Before using recovery hooks:
•Make sure all attaching points aresecure and capable of withstandingthe applied load.
•Never use chains, cables or tow strapswith metal hook ends.
•Only use recovery straps that have aminimum breaking strength two tothree times the gross vehicle weight ofthe stuck vehicle.

POST IMPACT BRAKING
HOW DOES POST IMPACTBRAKING WORK
In the event of a moderate to severe crash,the braking system reduces the vehicle’sspeed to prevent or reduce the impact ofa potential secondary crash.
POST IMPACT BRAKINGLIMITATIONS
Post impact braking does not activate ifany of the following occur:
•The anti-lock braking system isdamaged during the collision.
•Electronic stability control is disabled.
•Vehicle speed is below 5 mph(10 km/h).
OVERRIDING POST IMPACTBRAKING
You can override post impact braking bypressing the brake or accelerator pedal.
POST IMPACT BRAKINGINDICATORS
It flashes when a post impactbraking event is occurring.
AUTOMATIC CRASH SHUTOFF
WHAT IS AUTOMATIC CRASHSHUTOFF
The automatic crash shutoff is designedto stop the fuel going to the engine in theevent of a moderate or severe crash.
Note:Not every impact causes a shutoff.
AUTOMATIC CRASH SHUTOFFPRECAUTIONS
WARNING: If your vehicle has beeninvolved in a crash, have the fuel systemchecked. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in fire, personal injury ordeath.
RE-ENABLING YOUR VEHICLE
1.Switch the ignition off.

1.Lower the hood and allow it to dropunder its own weight for the last10–14 in (25–35 cm).

ENGINE OIL CHECK
1.Make sure that your vehicle is on levelground.
2.Check the oil level before starting theengine, or switch the engine off afterwarm up and wait 15 minutes for theoil to drain into the oil pan.
Note:Checking the oil level too soon couldresult in an inaccurate reading.
3.Remove the dipstick and wipe it witha clean, lint-free cloth.
4.Reinstall the dipstick and make sure itis fully seated.
5.Remove the dipstick again to check theoil level.
Note: If the oil level is between themaximum and minimum marks, the oil levelis acceptable. Do not add oil.
6.If the oil level is at the minimum mark,immediately add oil.
7.Reinstall the dipstick. Make sure it isfully seated.
Note:The oil consumption of new enginesreaches its normal level after approximately3,000 mi (5,000 km).
Note:Increases in oil level can occur fromfrequent short trips that do not allow theengine to get to operating temperature, aswell as frequent idling or low speed drivingfor long periods of time.
Note:If oil levels are continuously notedabove the maximum mark, schedule a visitto your authorized dealer.
Adding Engine Oil
WARNING: Do not add engine oilwhen the engine is hot. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury.
WARNING: Do not remove the fillercap when the engine is running.

Do not use supplemental engine oiladditives because they are unnecessaryand could lead to engine damage that thevehicle warranty may not cover.
1.Clean the area surrounding the engineoil filler cap before you remove it.
2.Remove the engine oil filler cap.
3.Add engine oil that meets ourspecifications. See Engine OilCapacity and Specification (page343).
4.Reinstall the engine oil filler cap. Turnit clockwise until you feel a strongresistance.
Note:Make sure you install the oil filler capcorrectly.
Note: Do not add oil further than themaximum mark. Oil levels above themaximum mark may cause engine damage.
Note:Immediately soak up any oil spillagewith an absorbent cloth.

CHANGING THE ENGINE AIR
FILTER
WARNING: To reduce the risk ofvehicle damage and personal burninjuries, do not start your engine with theair cleaner removed and do not removeit while the engine is running.
When changing the air filter element, useonly parts that meet or exceed ourspecifications.
For EcoBoost equipped vehicles: Whenservicing the air cleaner, it is important thatno foreign material enter the air inductionsystem. The engine and turbocharger aresusceptible to damage from even smallparticles.

Change the air filter element at the properinterval. See Scheduled Maintenance(page 411).
Note: Failure to use the correct air filterelement may result in severe enginedamage. The customer warranty may bevoid for any damage to the engine if thecorrect air filter element is not used.
1.Using a screwdriver, loosen the clampon the air filter housing cover.
2.Gently pull the boot back away fromthe air filter housing cover.
3.Release the two clips from the air filterhousing cover.
4.Remove the air filter housing cover.
5.Remove the air filter element from theair filter housing.
6.Wipe any dirt or debris from the air filterhousing assembly to make sure no dirtgets in the engine and to make sure youhave a good seal.
7.Install a new air filter element. Becareful not to crimp the filter elementedges between the air filter housingand cover. This could cause filterdamage and allow unfiltered air toenter the engine if it is not properlyseated.
8.Install the air filter housing cover.
9.Engage the clips to secure the air filterhousing cover to the air filter housing.
10.Reconnect the boot to the air filterhousing cover and tighten securely.
ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
WARNING: Do not remove thecoolant reservoir cap when the engine ison or the cooling system is hot. Wait 10minutes for the cooling system to cooldown. Cover the coolant reservoir capwith a thick cloth to prevent thepossibility of scalding and slowly removethe cap. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury.

WARNING: To reduce the risk ofpersonal injury, make sure the engine iscool before unscrewing the coolantpressure relief cap. The cooling systemis under pressure. Steam and hot liquidcan come out forcefully when you loosenthe cap slightly.
When the engine is cold, check theconcentration and level of the coolant atthe intervals listed in the scheduledmaintenance information. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 411).
Note:Make sure that the coolant level isbetween the MIN and the MAX marks onthe coolant reservoir.
Note: Coolant expands when it is hot. Thelevel may extend beyond the MAX mark.
Maintain coolant concentration within48% to 50%, which equates to a freezepoint between -29°F (-34°C) and -35°F(-37°C). Check coolant concentrationusing a refractometer. We do notrecommend the use of hydrometers orcoolant test strips for measuring coolantconcentration.
Adding Coolant
WARNING: Do not remove thecoolant reservoir cap when the engine ison or the cooling system is hot. Wait 10minutes for the cooling system to cooldown. Cover the coolant reservoir capwith a thick cloth to prevent thepossibility of scalding and slowly removethe cap. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury.
WARNING: Do not add coolantwhen the vehicle is on or the coolingsystem is hot. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injury.
WARNING: Do not put coolant inthe windshield washer reservoir. Ifsprayed on the windshield, coolant couldmake it difficult to see through thewindshield.
WARNING: Do not add coolantfurther than the MAX mark.
Note: Automotive fluids are notinterchangeable. Take care not to putengine coolant in the windshield washerfluid reservoir or windshield washer fluid inthe engine coolant reservoir.
Note: Do not use stop leak pellets, coolingsystem sealants, or non-specified additivesas they can cause damage to the enginecooling or heating systems. Resultingcomponent damage may not be covered bythe vehicle Warranty.
It is very important to use predilutedcoolant approved to the correctspecification in order to avoid plugging thesmall passageways in the engine coolingsystem. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 339). Do not mixdifferent colors or types of coolant in yourvehicle. Mixing of engine coolants or usingan incorrect coolant could harm the engineor cooling system components and maynot be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Note:If prediluted coolant is not available,use the approved concentrated coolantdiluting it to 50/50 with deionized ordistilled water. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 339). Using water thathas not been deionized could contribute todeposit formation, corrosion and pluggingof the small cooling system passageways.
Note: Coolants marketed for all makes andmodels may not be approved to ourspecifications and could cause damage tothe cooling system. Resulting componentdamage may not be covered by the vehicleWarranty.
