WARNING
Do not resume the journey if theoil level is correct. Have theengine checked by an expert.
If it stays on after starting orilluminates during a journey,stop immediately, switch offthe engine and check the engine oillevel. Top up straight away if the levelis low.
Power steering warninglamp
Illuminates to indicate amalfunction of the powersteering system. Fullsteering will be maintained but youwill need to exert greater force onthe steering wheel. Have the systemchecked by an expert as soon aspossible.
Rear fog lamp indicator
The indicator in theinstrument cluster willilluminate when the rear foglamps are switched on.
Seat belt reminder
WARNINGS
The seat belt reminder remainsin stand-by mode after thedriver has fastened his/her seat belt.It will be reactivated if the driverunbuckles his/her seat belt.
WARNINGS
Never sit on top of a buckledseat belt to avoid the seat beltreminder. The restraint system canonly work properly if passengershave buckled up their seat belts.
When the vehicle’s speedexceeds 23 km/h (14 mph),the seat belt reminder willilluminate if the driver’s seat belt isunbuckled. The seat belt reminderwill not go out until the driver hasfastened his/her seat belt.
To deactivate the seat belt reminderfor one ignition cycle, the driver mustbuckle and unbuckle the seat beltwithin 3 seconds with the ignitionswitched on.
Stability control (ESP)indicator
Note:If the indicator does notilluminate when the ignition isswitched on or if it stays illuminatedwhilst driving, it indicates amalfunction.
Illuminates when stabilitycontrol is switched off andflashes when stability control(ESP) is activated.

WARNINGS
Switch the ignition off beforetouching or attemptingadjustment of any kind.
Do not touch the electronicignition system parts after youhave switched the ignition on orwhen the engine is running. Thesystem operates at high voltage.
Keep your hands and clothingclear of the engine cooling fan.Under certain conditions, the fan maycontinue to run for several minutesafter you have switched the engineoff.

CAUTION
Do not use oil additives or otherengine treatments. Under certainconditions, they could damage theengine.
Note:The oil consumption of newengines reaches its normal level afterapproximately 5 000 kilometres (3000 miles).
Checking the oil level
CAUTION
Make sure that the level isbetween the MIN and the MAXmarks.
Note:Check the level before startingthe engine.

Note:Oil expands when it is hot. Thelevel may therefore extend a fewmillimetres beyond the MAX mark.
Remove the dipstick and wipe it witha clean, lint free cloth. Replace thedipstick and remove it again to checkthe oil level.
If the level is at the MIN mark, top upimmediately.
Topping up
WARNINGS
Only top up when the engine iscold. If the engine is hot, wait 10minutes for the engine to cool down.
Do not remove the filler capwhen the engine is running.
Remove the filler cap.
CAUTION
Do not top up further than theMAX mark.
Top up with fluid that meets the Fordspecification. See Technicalspecifications (page 204).
ENGINE COOLANT
CHECK
CAUTION
Make sure that the coolant levelis between the MIN and theMAX marks.
Note:Coolant expands when it ishot. The level may therefore extendbeyond the MAX mark.
Topping up the coolant
WARNING
Do not remove the coolantreservoir cap when the engineis hot. Wait for the engine to cooldown.
Unscrew the cap slowly. Anypressure will escape slowly as youunscrew the cap.

Note:If you operate your vehicle in temperatures below -20°C, you mustnot use SAE 10W-40 engine oil.
Topping up the oil: If you are unable to find an oil that meets thespecification defined by WSS-M2C913-B, you must use SAE 5W-30(preferred), SAE 5W-40 (except Flexfuel vehicles) or SAE 10W-40 thatmeets the specification defined by either ACEA A1/B1 (preferred) or ACEAA3/B3. Using these oils can result in longer engine cranking periods, reducedengine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels.
