LIFTGATE – FREQUENTLY ASKEDQUESTIONS
Why won't my power liftgate function?
It can happen in freezing conditions orwhen parking on downhill slopes. Makesure the power liftgate is enabled.Make sure the transmission is in park(P), ensure nothing is obstructing theliftgate path and there is not excessiveweight on the liftgate. If there arecontinued issues, the battery voltagemay be low or there may be othersystem issues. See an authorizeddealer.

OPENING THE LIFTGATE
OPENING THE LIFTGATE FROMOUTSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
Press the control button to unlatch theliftgate and then lift to open.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note:Do not hang anything, for example abike rack, from the glass or liftgate. Thiscould damage the liftgate and itscomponents.
Note:Do not leave the liftgate open whiledriving. This could damage the liftgate andits components.
OPENING THE LIFTGATE USINGTHE REMOTE CONTROL
Press the button twice withinthree seconds. The liftgateunlocks for 45 seconds, duringwhich time you can open the liftgate usingthe outside control button.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate in a garage or other enclosedarea to avoid damaging the liftgate.
Note:Do not hang anything, for example abike rack, from the glass or liftgate. Thiscould damage the liftgate and itscomponents.

CLOSING THE LIFTGATE FROMOUTSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
WARNING: It is extremelydangerous to ride in a cargo area, insideor outside of a vehicle. In a crash, peopleriding in these areas are more likely to beseriously injured or killed. Do not allowpeople to ride in any area of your vehiclethat is not equipped with seats andseatbelts. Make sure everyone in yourvehicle is in a seat and properly using aseatbelt. Failure to follow this warningcould result in serious personal injury ordeath.
WARNING: Make sure that you fullyclose the liftgate to prevent exhaustfumes from entering your vehicle. If youare unable to fully close the liftgate,open the air vents or the windows toallow fresh air to enter your vehicle.Failure to follow this instruction couldresult in personal injury or death.

A handle is inside the liftgate to help withclosing.
Note:Make sure that you fully close theliftgate to prevent cargo from falling out.
OPENING AND CLOSING THE
LIFTGATE WINDOW
1.Unlock the liftgate window with theremote control or power door unlockcontrol. If the remote control is within3 ft (1 m) of the liftgate, the liftgatewindow unlocks when you press therelease button.
2.Lift to open.
3.Carefully push the window down andpress firmly to latch securely.
Note:Be careful when opening or closingthe liftgate window in a garage or otherenclosed area to avoid damaging the glass.
Note: Do not hang anything, for examplea bike rack, from the glass or liftgate. Thiscould damage the liftgate and itscomponents.
Note: Do not leave the liftgate windowopen while driving. This could damage theliftgate window and its components.

PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT
SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
The passive anti-theft system preventssomeone from starting the vehicle with anincorrectly coded key.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all the doors when leaving your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WORK
The passive anti-theft system arms whenyou switch the ignition off.
It disarms when the ignition is switched onwith a correctly coded key.
Note:The system is not compatible withnon-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note:Do not leave a duplicate coded keyin your vehicle. Always take the keys andlock all doors when leaving your vehicle.
ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM
WHAT IS THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM
The anti-theft alarm system warns you ofan unauthorized entry to your vehicle.
HOW DOES THE ANTI-THEFTALARM SYSTEM WORK
When armed, the anti-theft alarm istriggered in any of the following ways:
•If someone opens a door, the tailgateor the hood without a correctly codedkey or remote control.
•If you turn the power on without acorrectly coded key.
•If the interior sensors detect movementinside your vehicle.
•If the inclination sensors detect anattempt to raise your vehicle.
•If someone disconnects the vehiclebattery or the battery backup alarm.
•If someone disconnects the trailer. SeeConnecting a Trailer (page 354).
Any further attempts to carry out one ofthe above, sounds the alarm again.
If the anti-theft alarm is triggered, thealarm horn sounds for 30 seconds and theturn signals flash for five minutes.
WHAT IS THE PERIMETER ALARM
The perimeter alarm is designed to detectunauthorized access to your vehicle.
WHAT ARE THE INTERIORSENSORS
The interior sensors are designed to detectany movement inside your vehicle.
The interior sensors are in the overheadconsole.
Note:Do not cover the interior sensors.

WHAT ARE THE INCLINATIONSENSORS
The inclination sensor is designed to detectan attempt to raise your vehicle, forexample to remove a wheel or to tow itaway.
ARMING THE ANTI-THEFT ALARMSYSTEM
The alarm is ready to arm when yourvehicle is switched off.
Lock your vehicle with your remote controlto arm the alarm.
DISARMING THE ANTI-THEFTALARM SYSTEM
Disarm the alarm by performing any of thefollowing actions:
•Unlock the doors or luggagecompartment with the remote control.
•Switch your vehicle on or start yourvehicle.

WHAT ARE THE ALARM SECURITYLEVELS
You can select two levels of alarm security,all sensors and perimeter sensing.
All Sensors
All sensors is the standard setting.
In all sensors, all equipped sensors are onwhen you arm the alarm.
Note:Do not arm the alarm with all sensorsif passengers, animals or other movingobjects are inside your vehicle.
Perimeter Sensing
In perimeter sensing, the interior sensorsare off when you arm the alarm.
All the other equipped sensors activatewhen you arm the alarm in this mode.
SETTING THE ALARM SECURITYLEVEL
1.Press Settings on the touchscreen.
2.Press Vehicle.
3.Press Alarm System.
4.Press Motion Sensors.
5.Press a setting.
WHAT IS ASK ON EXIT
You can choose which level of security yourequire after you switch the ignition off.
Note:If you do not choose a setting, thesystem defaults to all sensors.
SWITCHING ASK ON EXIT ON ANDOFF
1.Press Settings on the touchscreen.
2.Press Vehicle.
3.Press Alarm System.
4.Switch Ask on Exit on or off.

POWER RUNNING BOARD
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: In extreme climates,excessive ice buildup may occur, causingthe running boards not to deploy. Makesure that the running boards havedeployed, and have finished movingbefore attempting to step on them. Therunning boards will resume normalfunction once the blockage is cleared.
WARNING: Switch off the runningboards before jacking or placing anyobject under your vehicle. Never placeyour hand between the extended runningboard and your vehicle. A moving runningboard may cause injury.
Do not use the running boards, front andrear hinge assemblies, running boardmotors, or the running board underbodymounts to lift your vehicle when jacking.Use proper jacking points.
The running boards could move slower incold temperatures.

Why is there unwanted noise comingfrom my power running boards?
The power running board mechanismcould trap debris such as mud, dirt,snow, ice and salt. If this happens, setthe running boards to the deployedposition. Then, wash the system, inparticular the front and rear hingearms, with a high-pressure car washwand.
