WHAT IS AUTOMATIC HIGH
BEAM CONTROL
The system turns on high beams if it is darkenough and no other traffic is present. If itdetects an approaching vehicle’sheadlamps or tail lamps, or street lightingahead, the system turns the high beamsoff. Low beams remain on.
A camera sensor, centrally mountedbehind the windshield of your vehicle, continuously monitors conditions to turnthe high beams on and off.
SWITCHING AUTOMATIC HIGH
BEAM CONTROL ON AND OFF
Switch the system on or off using theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 98).
Activating the Automatic HighBeam Control
Switch the lighting control to theautolamps position to activate.See Autolamps (page 81).
Note:Automatic high beams are notavailable when you do not turn onautolamps.
When active, the high beams turn on if allof the following occur:
•The ambient light level is low enough.
•There is no traffic in front of yourvehicle.
•The vehicle speed is greater thanapproximately 32 mph (52 km/h).
When active, the high beams turn off if anyof the following occur:
•The ambient light level is high enoughthat it does not require high beams.
•The system detects an approachingvehicle's headlamps or tail lamps.
•The system detects severe rain, snowor fog.
•The camera is blocked.
•The vehicle speed falls belowapproximately 27 mph (44 km/h).
Note:The deactivation speed is lower oncurves.
Note:There could be a delay in high beamreactivation in certain curvy road situations.
Note:If you have a blocked sensor, thesystem may not operate properly. Keep thewindshield free from obstruction or damage.
Note:The system may not operate properlyin cold or inclement conditions. You canswitch on the high beams by overriding thesystem.
Note:If the system detects a blockage, forexample bird droppings, bug splatter, snowor ice, the system goes into low beam modeuntil you clear the blockage. If you have ablocked camera, a message may appear inthe information display.
Note:Using much larger tires or equippingvehicle accessories such as snowplows canmodify your vehicle's ride height anddegrade automatic high beam controlperformance.

For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start theengine for at least 15 minutes. When you switch off the system, the lanemarking graphics do not display.
When the system is on, the color of thelane markings changes to indicate thesystem status.
Gray: Indicates that the system istemporarily unable to provide a warningor intervention on the indicated side. Thismay be because:
•Your vehicle is under the activationspeed.
•The direction indicator is active.
•Your vehicle is in a dynamic maneuver.
•The road has no or poor lane markingsin the camera field-of-view.
•You have a blocked camera, or it isunable to detect the lane markings dueto environmental, traffic or vehicleconditions. For example, significant sunangles, shadows, snow, heavy rain orfog, following a large vehicle that isblocking or shadowing the lane or poorheadlamp illumination.
See Troubleshooting for additionalinformation.
Green: Indicates that the system isavailable or ready to provide a warning orintervention, on the indicated side.
Yellow or Animated Graphics: Indicate thatthe system is providing or has just provideda lane keeping aid intervention.
Red: Indicates that the system is providingor has just provided a lane keeping alertwarning.
You can temporarily suppress the systemat any time by the following:
•Quick braking.
•Fast acceleration.
•Using the direction indicator.
•Evasive steering maneuver.
•Driving too close to the lane markings.
Troubleshooting
Why is the feature not available (line markings are gray) when I can see the lane markingson the road?
Your vehicle speed is outside the operational range of the feature.
The sun is shining directly into the camera lens.
A quick intentional lane change has occurred.
Your vehicle stays too close to the lane markings.
Driving at high speeds in curves.
The last alert warning or aid intervention occurred a short time ago.
Ambiguous lane markings, for example in construction zones.
Rapid transition from light to dark, or from dark to light.
Sudden offset in lane markings.
ABS or AdvanceTrac™ is active.

WARNING: This vehicle may havemore than one battery. Removing thebattery cables from only one batterydoes not disconnect your vehicleelectrical system. Make sure youdisconnect the battery cables from allbatteries when disconnecting power.Failure to do so may cause seriouspersonal injury or property damage.
WARNING: For vehicles withAuto-Start-Stop the battery requirementis different. You must replace the batterywith one of exactly the samespecification.
The battery is in the engine compartment.See Under Hood Overview (page 259).
Your vehicle has a maintenance-freebattery. It does not require additionalwater during service.
If the vehicle battery has a cover and venthose, make sure you correctly install it aftercleaning or replacing the battery.
For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry and thebattery cables tightly fastened to thebattery terminals. If any corrosion ispresent on the battery or terminals, removethe cables from the terminals and cleanwith a wire brush. You can neutralize theacid with a solution of baking soda andwater.
We recommend that you disconnect thenegative battery cable terminal from thebattery if you plan to store your vehicle foran extended period.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid unintended connection orarcing.
If you replace the battery make sure itmatches the electrical requirements ofyour vehicle.
If you disconnect or replace the batteryand your vehicle has an automatictransmission, it must relearn its adaptivestrategy. Because of this, the transmissionmay shift firmly when first driven. This isnormal operation while the transmissionfully updates its operation to optimumshift feel.
Battery Sensor Reset
When you install a new battery, reset thebattery sensor by doing the following:
1.Switch the ignition on, and leave theengine off.

Center height of lamp to ground.B
25 ft (7.6 m).C
Horizontal reference line.D
Vertical Aim Adjustment
1.Park the vehicle directly in front of awall or screen on a level surface, approximately 25 ft (7.6 m) away.
2.Measure the height from the center ofyour headlamp indicated by a 3 mmcircle on the lens to the ground andmark an 8 ft (2.4 m) horizontalreference line on the vertical wall orscreen at this height, a piece ofmasking tape works well.
Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp while adjusting theother.
3.Turn on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood. Cover one of the headlampsso no light hits the wall.
