6MAINTENANCE UNDER SEVERE USAGE CONDITIONS
F040A07A-EAT The following items must be serviced more frequently on cars normally used under severe driving conditions. Refer to the chart below for the appropriate maintenance intervals.

o Engine oil and filter
The engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the car is being driven in severe conditions,more frequent oil and filter changes are required. 6ZF060B1-A
o Drive belts
Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace if necessary. Drive belts should be checked peri-odically for proper tension and ad- justed as necessary. 6ZF060C1-A
o Fuel filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven, dam-age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections.

o Fuel lines, fuel hoses and con-
nections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and
connections for leakage and damage.Replace any damaged or leaking partsimmediately. WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine.High pressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes are sub- jected to high pressure even afterthe engine has been switched off. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it con-tacts with the body. People using pacemakers should not move closer than 12 in.(30 cm) to the ECUor wiring harness within the engine room with the engine running, since the high currents in the CommonRail system produce considerable magnetic fields.

Check the cooling system part, such as radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses and connections for leakage and dam- age. Replace any damaged parts.
6ZF060G1-A o Vapour hose and fuel filler cap The vapour hose and fuel filler cap should be inspected at those intervals specified in the maintenance sched- ule. Make sure that a new vapourhose or fuel filler cap is correctly re- placed. 6ZF060F1-A
o Vacuum, crankcase
ventilation hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-
dence of heat and/or mechanical dam-age. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessiveswelling indicate deterioration. Par- ticular attention should be paid to ex- amining those hose surfaces nearestto high heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to assure
that the hoses do not come in contactwith any heat source, sharp edges or moving component which might causeheat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make surethey are secure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immediately if there is any evidence ofdeterioration or damage.

o Air conditioning refrigerant
Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leakage and damage.Check air conditioning performance according to the relevant shop manual if necessary.

With the vehicle stopped and engine off, check for excessive freeplay in the steering wheel. Check the linkage for bends or dam- age. Check the dust boots and ball joints for deterioration, cracks, or dam- age. Replace any damaged parts. 6ZF070N1-A
o Power steering pump, belt and hoses
Check the power steering pump and hoses for leakage and damage. Re-place any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power steer- ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks,excessive wear, oiliness and proper tension. Replace or adjust it if neces- sary.

5ENGINE OILDAILY OPERATING CHECKS
SG020B1-E The following items should be checked on a daily basis or whenever the vehicle is refuelled, whichever occurs sooner.
o Engine oil level.
o Coolant level.
o Power steering fluid level.
o Brake fluid level.
o Windscreen washer fluid level.
o Battery condition.
o Tyre condition and pressures.
o Operation and cleanliness of all light- ing equipment.
o Windscreen wiper and washer opera- tion.
o Horn operation.
o Warning light operation.
o Adjustment and cleanliness of mir- rors.
o Seat and seat belt adjustment and operation.
o Fluid leakage. The vehicle must not be driven if the daily operating checks indicate thatany item of equipment related to the safety or roadworthiness of the vehicle is not functioning correctly. G030A01FC-EAT The correct engine oil level is of para- mount importance. An excessively high or low oil level may result in irreparable damage being sustained by the engine.The engine oil level must be checked on a daily basis, whenever the vehicle is refuelled or before starting a long trip,whichever occurs sooner. In addition, it is imperative that only an approved grade and specification of oilis used to avoid the possibility of seri- ous engine damage and premature wear. The use of "budget price" oil is a falseeconomy that must be avoided if the maximum reliability and useful life is to be obtained from the vehicle.
G030B02O-EAT Recommended Oil
1. Petrol Engine The engine oil quality should meet the following classification. API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE The oil viscosity should be selected according to the operating environment of the engine by means of the tableshown above. The engine oil recom- mendations are complete in themselves and the use of additives is neitherrequired nor recommended. The use of engine oil additives may result in invali- dation of the vehicle warranty.

SG140C2-E Checking the Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and run at idle for
several minutes with the refrigera- tion system running at the coldest setting.
2. If the air coming out of the in-dash vents is not cold, have the air condi-tioning system inspected by your Hyundai dealer.
! CAUTION:
Running the air conditioning system for extended periods of time with a low refrigerant level may damage thecompressor.
SG140A1-E Condenser Ensure that the condenser is periodi- cally inspected and that accumulationsof dirt, dead insects and leaves etc, are removed to ensure that the efficiency of the system is not impaired. Care mustbe exercised to ensure that the con- denser fins are not damaged during cleaning.
SG140B1-E Compressor Drive Belt
0.315 in. (8mm)
The air conditioning compressor drive belt should be checked to ensure free-dom from damage or excessive wear and correct tension. The belt tension is correct when the belt deflects by about0.3 inches (8 mm) when a force of 98 N is applied to the belt halfway between the compressor and crankshaft pul-leys. Adjustment of the belt should be entrusted to a Hyundai dealer.

You need a helper to check the brake pedal clearance. With the engine run- ning, have your helper press down onthe brake pedal several times and then hold it down with a force of about 490 N (50 Kg, 110 lbs). The brake pedalclearance is the distance from the top surface of the brake pedal to the as- phalt sheeting under the floor mat.If the brake pedal clearance is not within the limits specified in the illustra- tion, have it inspected by your Hyundaidealer and adjusted or repaired if nec- essary. 1.78 in. (45.1 mm)
SG170A1-E BRAKE PEDAL The brake pedal freeplay should be checked with the engine turned off. Thepedal to floor clearance should be checked with the engine running and a load of 490 N applied to the pedal. Ifeither value is incorrect, the necessary adjustment should be performed by a Hyundai dealer. 0.12 ~ 0.31 in. (3 ~ 8 mm)
The various engine drive belts must be checked for condition, tension and free-dom from damage and excessive wear. The tension of a new belt must be checked after thirty minutes runningfollowing fitment of the new belt to allow for the initial belt stretch.

FUSIBLE LINKS
WARNING:
Under no circumstances should a fusible link be replaced with any- thing other than a new link of thesame rating. The use of higher rated links or other means of connecting the circuit will create a potential firehazard.

At the scheduled maintenance inspec- tion, belts should be examined forcracks, wear, fraying or other evidence of deterioration and replaced if neces- sary.Belt routing should also be checked to be sure there is no interference be- tween the belts and other parts of theengine. SG200A1-E The fusible link prevents damage to the wiring harness in the event of an elec-trical system malfunction. Failure of a fusiblelink is indicative of a serious overload condition having occurred andtherefore the electrical system should be checked by a Hyundai dealer before a replacement link is fitted.
