Always engage the parking brake be- fore leaving the car. This also turns on the parking brake indicator light when the key is in the "ON" or "START"position. Before driving away, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and the indicator light is off.

Your Hyundai is equipped with a day/ night inside rearview mirror. The "night" position is selected by flipping the tab at the bottom of the mirror toward you.In the "night" position, the glare of headlights of cars behind you is re- duced.

ing brake lever up as far as possible. In addition it is recommended that whenparking the vehicle on a gradient, the shift lever should be positioned in the appropriate low gear on manual transaxlevehicles or in the P (Park) position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
CAUTION:
Driving with the parking brake ap-plied will cause excessive brake pad (or lining) and brake rotor wear.

2. Pull the secondary latch lever up and lift the hood.
HIGH-MOUNTED REAR STOP LIGHT

(If Installed) In addition to the lower-mounted rear stop lights on either side of the car, the high mounted rear stop light in the center of the rear window or inserted inthe rear spoiler also lights when the brakes are applied.

!WARNING:
Whenever leaving vehicle or parking always set the parking brake as far as possible and fully engage the vehicle's transaxle into the park po-sition. Vehicles not fully engaged in park with the parking brake set are at risk for moving inadvertently andinjuring yourself or others.
Releasing the parking brake To release the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and pull up the parkingbrake lever slightly. Secondly, depress the release button and lower the parking brake lever while holding the button.

3. Pull the support rod from the hood.

4. Hold the hood open with the support rod.

Make sure that the support rod has been released prior to closing thehood.
!
Before closing the hood, return the support rod to its clip to prevent it fromrattling. Lower the hood until it is about 1 ft. (30 cm) above the closed position and let it drop. Make sure that it locksinto place.
!WARNING:
o Always double check to be sure that the hood is firmly latched before driving away. If it is not latched, the hood could fly openwhile the vehicle is being driven, causing a total loss of visibility, which might result in an accident.
o The support rod must be inserted completely into the hole providedin the hood whenever you inspectthe engine compartment. This will prevent the hood from falling and possibly injuring you.
o Do not move the vehicle with the hood in the raised position, asvision is obstructed and the hoodcould fall or be damaged.

WARNING:
o Fuel vapors are dangerous. Be- fore refueling, always stop the en- gine and never allow sparks or open flames near the filler area. If you need to replace the filler cap,use a genuine Hyundai replace- ment part. If you open the fuel filler cap dur-ing high ambient temperatures, a slight "pressure sound" may be heard. This is normal and not acause for concern. Whenever you open the fuel filler cap, turn it slowly.!
REMOTE FUEL-FILLER LID RELEASE

The fuel-filler lid may be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling up on the fuel-filler lid opener located on the front floor area on the left side of the car. NOTE: If the fuel-filler lid will not open be- cause ice has formed around it, taplightly or push on the lid to break the ice and release the lid. Do not pry on the lid. If necessary, spray aroundthe lid with an approved de-icer fluid (do not use radiator anti-freeze) or move the vehicle to a warm placeand allow the ice to melt.

If you must re-enter the vehicle, you should once again elimi- nate potentially dangerous staticelectricity discharge by touch- ing a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck,nozzle or other gasoline source.
- When using a portable fuel con-
tainer be sure to place the con-tainer on the ground prior to refueling. Static electricity dis- charge from the container canignite fuel vapors causing a fire. Once refueling has begun, con- tact with the vehicle should bemaintained until the filling is complete. Use only portable fuel containers designed to carry andstore gasoline.
- Do not use cellular phones
around a gas station or whilerefueling any vehicle. Electric current and/or electronic inter- ference from cellular phones canpotentially ignite fuel vapors causing a fire. If you must use your cellular phone use it in aplace away from the gas station.o Automotive fuels are flammable/ explosive materials. When refuel- ing, please note the followingguidelines carefully. Failure to follow these guidelines may re- sult in severe personal injury, se-vere burns or death by fire or explosion.
- Before refueling always note the
location of the Emergency Gaso- line Shut-Off, if available, at the gas station facility.
- Before touching the fuel nozzle or fuel filler cap, you shouldeliminate potentially dangerousstatic electricity discharge by touching another metal part of the front of the vehicle, a safedistance away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other gas source.
- Do not get back into a vehicle once you have begun refueling.Do not touch, rub or slide againstany item or fabric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) capable of pro- ducing static electricity. Staticelectricity discharge can ignite fuel vapors resulting in explo- sion.- When refueling always shut theengine off. Sparks produced by electrical components related tothe engine can ignite fuel va- pors causing a fire. Always in- sure that the engine is OFF be-fore and during refueling. Once refueling is complete, check to make sure the fuel filler cap anddoor are securely closed, before starting the engine.
- Do not light any fire around a gas station. DO NOT use matchesor a lighter and DO NOT SMOKE or leave a lit cigarette in yourvehicle while at a gas station especially during refueling. Au- tomotive fuel is highly flammableand can, when ignited, result in explosion by flames.
- If a fire breaks out during refuel- ing, leave the vicinity of the ve-hicle, and immediately contact the manager of the gas stationor contact the police and local fire department. Follow any safety instructions they provide.

To open the trunk lid without using the key, pull up the lid release lever. To close, lower the trunk lid, then press down on it until it locks. To be sure thetrunk lid is securely fastened, check by trying to pull it up again.

TRUNK LID/TAIL GATE

WARNING:
The trunk lid or the tail gate should always be kept completely closedwhile the vehicle is in motion. If it is left open or ajar, poisonous exhaust gases may enter the car resulting inserious illiness or death to the occu- pants. See additional warnings con- cerning exhaust gases on page 2-2. o The trunk lid is opened by first turn-
ing the key clockwise to release the lock, then raising the door manually.
o To close, lower the trunk lid, then
press down on it until it locks. To besure the trunk lid is securely fas- tened, try to pull it up again.
Tail Gate (3 Door) To open the tail gate, unlock it by turning the key clockwise, then pull theoutside handle toward you. To close, lower the tail gate and shut firmly to engage the latch. Lock the tailgate by turning the key counterclock- wise. If the vehicle is equipped with centraldoor locking, the tail gate can be locked without a key. Push the front portion of the central door locking switch afterclosing the tail gate. If the tail gate is open when the front portion of the central door locking switchis pushed, the tail gate will be locked when it is fully closed.

WARNING:
Avoid eye injury. DO NOT over- stretch. The luggage net ALWAYS keep your face and body out of its recoil path. DO NOT use when thestrap has visible signs of wear or damage.
When loading objects in the luggage compartment, use the four rings lo-cated in the luggage compartment to attach the luggage net as shown illus- tration. This will help prevent the ob-jects from sliding.

A ticket holder is provided on the back of the sun visor for the driver. Vanity mirrors are provided on the back of thesunvisor for the driver and the front passenger (If Installed). STEERING WHEEL TILT LEVER

To Adjust the Steering Wheel:
1. Push the lever downward to unlock.
2. Raise or lower the steering wheel to the desired position.
3. After adjustment, securely tighten the lever by pulling it upward.
WARNING:
Do not attempt to adjust the steering wheel while driving as this may re-sult in loss of control of the vehicle which may cause serious injury or death.
