This vehicle is fitted with electronically controlled fuel injection or other micro processor controlled equipment. It is possible for incorrectly installed two way radio equipment including mobile telephones to adversely affect these systems.Before radio equipment of this kind is installed, please contact your Hyundai dealer for recommendation regarding the suitability of the particular radio equipment concerned and the recommended method of installation and equip-ment location. Incorrectly installed or unsuitable equipment which gives rise to incorrect functioning of or damage to electronic vehicle components will not fall within the scope of the vehicle manufacturers warranty.

It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner/driver to ensure that all routine maintenance services are undertaken in line with the recommendations specifiedin Section 5 of this manual. In addition, in order to ensure continued validity of the new vehicle warranty and safe operation of the vehicle, non scheduled mainte- nance/running repairs should be undertaken at the earliest available opportunity.Under severe operating conditions, more frequent maintenance is required. Details of the maintenance schedule for such conditions are also given in section 5.It is recommended that all maintenance operations and repairs are entrusted to a franchised Hyundai dealer to ensure that the latest repair methods, specialized tooling and genuine Hyundai parts are used to ensure the continued reliability andsafety of the vehicle.

The information in this Owner's Manual is current at the time of publication. However, the right to amend specifications without notice or obligation to incorporate such amendments into vehicles already produced is reserved. The use of leaded fuel in this vehicle will result in irreversible pollution of the catalyst element.Such pollution will prevent correct operation ofthe catalyst and give rise to increased operatingtemperatures leading to the catalyst elementmelting and restricting the exhaust flow alongwith an increase in exhaust emission levels. CAUTION: The vehicle warranty will not extend to dam-age arising from the use of incorrect fuels. Overseas Operation: When the vehicle is to be operated overseas, the vehicle operator should establish that a suitablefuel for satisfactory operation of the vehicle isavailable.
B020A01S-EAT RUNNING INThe longevity and performance of the vehicle are greatly affected by the care exercised during thefirst 1,000 miles of motoring. Because of modernmanufacturing techniques, rigid guidelines re-garding maximum road speeds have becomeunnecessary. However, certain precautionsshould be observed in order to obtain the bestpossible performance and useful life from thevehicle.
1) Do not race the engine without a load (i.e
revving the engine in neutral).
2) During the first 500 miles the maximum en- gine speed should be restricted to 3,000 rpmand gradually increased thereafter.
3) Avoid prolonged constant speed operation. The internal components of the engine willbecome more quickly run in if the operationspeed is varied during the running in period.
4) Never allow the engine to labour. Use the gearbox freely and avoid large throttle open-ings when the engine speed is below 1,500rpm.
5) Avoid rapid acceleration and maximum throttle openings.
6) Avoid harsh braking during the first 100 miles of urban motoring or 1,000 miles ofmotorway driving to allow the friction facingsof the brake pads and shoes to bed againstthe discs and drums properly.
7) No trailer towing should be undertaken dur- ing the running in period.

B010E01A-EAT PETROLS FOR CLEANER AIR To help contribute to cleaner air, Hyundai recom- mends that you use petrols treated with deter-gent additives, which help to prevent depositformation in the engine. These petrols will helpthe engines run cleaner and the Emission Con-trol System performance.
Unleaded fuel with a Reasearch Octane Number(RON) of 91 or higher must be used in thisvehicle.To prevent accidental charging of the fuel tankwith leaded fuel, a small diameter filler neckalong with a restrictor flap are fitted to ensure thatonly unleaded fuel pump nozzles may enter thefiller neck. However, care must be exercisedwhen refuelling the vehicle tank from jerry cansor by means of a funnel that the fuel being usedis unleaded.

o Unlocked doors can be dangerous. Before
you drive away (especially if there are chil-dren in the car), be sure that all the doorsare securely closed and locked so that thedoors cannot be inadvertently opened fromthe inside. This helps ensure that doorswill not be opened accidentally. Also, whencombined with the proper use of seat belts,locking the doors helps keep occupantsfrom being ejected from the car in case ofan accident.
o Before opening the door, always look for and avoid oncoming traffic.
o In case of accident the door is unlocked automatically (Not all models).

All of the locks fitted to the vehicle are operated by the same key. However, since it is possible tolock the doors without the use of the key, careshould be exercised to ensure that the key doesnot become locked inside the vehicle by mistake. The vehicle key number is recorded upon a metal tag attached to the keys when the vehicleis first delivered to you.The key number should be recorded and kept ina safe place in case the need to order furtherkeys arises. New keys are available from anyHyundai dealer by quoting the relevant key num-ber.In the interest of security, the metal tag attachedto the keys which bears the key number shouldbe removed from the key ring after you receiveyour new vehicle. In addition, key numbers can-not be provided by Hyundai for security reasons.If you need additional keys or if you should loseyour keys, your authorized Hyundai dealer canmake new keys.
B880A01A-GAT IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMThe immobiliser system is an anti-theft device, designed to deter automobile theft.

o The door can be locked or unlocked with a key.
o Lock the door by turning the key toward the
front of the vehicle and unlock it by turning thekey toward the rear.

B040C01S-AAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors, first push the inside lock switchto the "LOCK" position so that the red mark on theswitch is not visible, then close the door. NOTE:
o When locking the door this way, be carefulnot to lock the door with the ignition keyleft in the vehicle.
o To protect against theft, always remove the ignition key, close all windows, andlock all doors when leaving your vehicleunattended.

B040D01S-AAT Locking From the Inside To lock the doors from the inside, simply close the door and push the lock switch to the "LOCK"position. When this is done, neither the outsidenor the inside door handle can be used. NOTE: When the door is locked, the red mark on theswitch is not visible.

B040G01GK-GAT Central Door Lock The central door locking is operated by pushing the driver's door lock switch toward the front orrear of the vehicle. If the passenger door is openwhen the switch is pushed, the door will remainlocked when closed. NOTE:
o When pushing the switch toward the rear, all doors will unlock.When pushing the switch toward the front,all doors will lock.
o When the door is unlocked, the red mark on the switch is visible.
o The central door locking is operated by turning the key (driver's door only) towardthe front or rear of the vehicle. B070A01A-AAT THEFT-ALARM SYSTEM (Not all models) This system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the car. This systemis operated in three stages: the first is the "Armed"stage, the second is the "Alarm" stage, and thethird is the "Disarmed" stage. If triggered, thesystem provides an audible alarm with blinkingof the turn signal light.
B070C01GK-EAT Alarm StageThe alarm will be activated if any of the following occur while the car is parked and the system isarmed.
1) A front door is unlocked and opened withoutusing the transmitter.
2) The hatchback door is opened without using the key.
3) The engine bonnet is opened.The siren will sound and the turn signal lamp will blink continuously for 30 seconds. To turn off thesystem, unlock the door with the transmitter. CAUTION: Avoid trying to start the engine while thesystem is armed.
B070B02GK-EAT Armed Stage Park the car and stop the engine. Arm the system as described below.
1) Remove the ignition key from the ignition
switch.
2) Make sure that the engine bonnet and hatch- back door are closed.
3) Lock the doors using the transmitter of the keyless entry system.
After completion of the steps above, the turn signal lamp will blink once to indicate that thesystem is armed. NOTE:
1) If any door, hatchback door or engine bonnet remains open, the system will notbe armed.
2) If this happens, rearm the system as de- scribed above. 3) Once the system is armed, only the hatch-
back door may be unlocked using the keywithout disarming the system.
CAUTION:Do not arm the system until all passengershave left the car. If the system is armed whilea passenger(s) remains in the car, the alarmmay be activated when the remainingpassenger(s) leaves the car.
