ISOFIX AnchorISOFIX Anchor

On each side of the rear seat, between the cushion and backrest, are located a pair of ISOFIXanchorage points together with a top tether mount-ing on the luggage compartment. During theinstalling, the seat has to be engaged at theanchorage-points in a way you can hear it click-ing (check by pulling!) and has to be fixed with theTop Tether-belt on the belonging point in theluggage-compartment. The installing and the useof a child-seat has to be done according to theinstalling-manual, which is added to the ISOFIX-seat. NOTE:An ISOFIX-child-seat can only be installed ifthe seat has a vehicle-specific approval ac-cording to ECE-R44. Before using the ISOFIX-child-seat, which was bought for another car,ask your Hyundai-dealer whether this seat-type is approved and recommended for yourHyundai. To secure the child restraint seat
1. To engage the child restraint seat to the
ISOFIX anchor, insert the child restraint seat latch into the ISOFIX anchor. Listen for theaudible "click" sound.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the child restraint hook holder and tighten to securethe seat. Refer to "Securing a Child RestraintSystem with the Tether Anchorage System"on page 1-15.

o There is no rear centre seating position.
o Do not install a child restraint seat at the
center of the rear seat using the vehicle'sISOFIX anchors. The ISOFIX anchors areonly provided for the left and right out-board rear seating positions. Do not mis-use the ISOFIX anchors by attempting toattach a child restraint seat in the middleof the rear seat to the ISOFIX anchors. Ina crash, the child restraint seat ISOFIXattachments may not be strong enough tosecure the child restraint seat properly inthe center of the rear seat and may break,causing serious injury or death.
o Do not mount more than one child re- straint to a child restraint lower anchor-age point. The improper increased loadmay cause the anchorage points or tetheranchor to break, causing serious injury ordeath.
o Attach the ISOFIX or ISOFIX-compatible child restraint seat only to the appropriatelocations shown in the illustration.
o Always follow the installation and use instructions provided by the manufacturerof the child restraint.

1- 46 SB450A2-E HATCHBACK DOOR Remote Hatchback door Release The hatchback door may be opened by pulling the lever to release the lock. The hatchback doorshould be closed by depressing the lid firmly untilthe latch engages. Ensure that hatchback door issecurely latched before setting the vehicle inmotion. WARNING: The hatchback door should always be closedwhilst the vehicle is in motion to preventexhaust gases from being drawn into thepassenger compartment.

SB440A1-E REMOTE FUEL FILLER LID RELEASE (Not all models) The fuel filler lid may be opened from inside the vehicle by pulling up on the fuel filler lid release. NOTE: If the fuel filler lid will not open because icehas formed around it, tap lightly or push onthe lid to break the ice and release the lid. Donot lever the lid. If necessary, spray aroundthe lid with an approved de-icer fluid (do notuse radiator anti-freeze) or move the vehicleto a warm place and allow the ice to melt.

WARNING: Fuel vapours are dangerous. Before refuel- ling, turn off the engine and never allowsparks, lit cigarettes or open flames near thefiller area. When releasing the filler cap, asmall amount of residual pressure may gen-erate a slight hissing sound which is notindicative of an abnormality. In the event ofthe fuel filler cap requiring replacement, onlya Genuine Hyundai replacement part shouldbe used to prevent fuel leakage.

Sports Mode

Whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, sports mode is selected by pushing the selectorlever from the "D" position into the manual gate.To return to "D" range operation, push theselector lever back into the main gate. In sports mode, moving the selector lever back- wards and forwards can make rapid gearshiftssimple. In contrast to a manual transaxle, thesports mode allows gearshifts with the accel-erator pedal depressed. UP (+) : Push the lever forward once to shift up
one gear.DOWN (-) : Pull the lever backwards once to
shift down one gear.

o D(Drive):
Use for normal driving. The transaxle will auto-
matically shift through a four gear sequence.

NOTE:
o For smooth and safe operation, depress the brake pedal when shifting from "Neu- tral" position or "Park" position to a for-ward or reverse gear.
o The ignition key must be in the "ON" position and the brake pedal fully de-pressed in order to move the shift leverfrom the "P" (Park) position to any of theother positions.
o It is always possible to shift from "R", "N", "D" position to "P" position. Thevehicle must be fully stopped to avoidtransaxle damage.
CAUTION:
o In sports mode, the driver must execute shifts in accordance with prevailing roadconditions, taking care to keep the en-gine speed below the red zone.
o For engine protection, upward shifts are made automatically when the engine rpmreaches the red zone.
o By rapidly moving the selector lever back- wards (-) twice it is possible to skip onegear by using the sports mode. Sincesudden engine braking and/or rapid ac-celeration can cause a loss of traction,however, downshifts must be made care-fully in accordance with the vehicle'sspeed.
NOTE:
o In sports mode, only the four forward gears can be selected. To reverse or parkthe vehicle, move the selector lever tothe "R" or "P" position as required.
o In sports mode, downward shifts are made automatically when the vehicleslows down. When the vehicle stops, 1stgear is automatically selected.
o To maintain the required levels of vehicle performance and safety, the system maynot execute certain gearshifts when theselector lever is operated. o Before driving away from a stop on a
slippery road, push the selector leverforward into the +(UP) position. Thiscauses the transaxle to shift into 2ndgear which is better for smooth drivingaway on a slippery road. Push the selec-tor lever to the -(DOWN) side to shiftback to 1st gear.

1. Before towing, check towbar hitch and safe-
ty cable connections as well as proper oper- ation of the trailer running lights, brake lights,and turn signals.
2. Always drive your vehicle at a moderate speed (Less than 60mph).
3. Trailer towing requires more fuel than nor- mal conditions.
4. To maintain engine braking efficiency, do not tow a trailer with the transaxle engagedin an overdrive gear.
5. Always secure items in the trailer to prevent load shift while driving.
6. Check the condition and air pressure of all tires on the trailer and your car. Low tirepressure can seriously affect the handling.Also check the spare tire.
7. The vehicle/trailer combination is more af- fected by crosswind and buffeting. When being passed by a large vehicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead.If there is too much wind buffeting, slowdown to get out of the other vehicle's airturbulence.
8. When parking your car and trailer, especial- ly on a hill, be sure to follow all the normalprecautions. Turn your front wheel into thecurb, set the parking brake firmly, and putthe transaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual) orPark (automatic). In addition, place wheelchocks at each of the trailer's tires.

o The total gross vehicle weight with trailer must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) shown on the vehicleidentification plate (see page 8-1). Thetotal gross vehicle weight is the com-bined weight of the vehicle, driver, allpassengers and their luggage, cargo,hitch, trailer nose weight and other op-tional equipment.
o The front or rear axle weight must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating(GAWR) shown on the vehicle identifica-tion plate (see page 8-1). it is possiblethat your towing package does not ex-ceed the GVWR but exceeds the GAWR.Improper trailer loading and/or too muchluggage in the boot can overload the rearaxle. 9. If the trailer has electric brakes, start your
vehicle and trailer moving, and then apply the trailer brake controller by hand to besure the brakes are working. This lets youcheck your electrical connection at the sametime.
10. During your trip, check occasionally to be sure that the load is secure, and that thelights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden acceleration or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane changes.
13. Avoid holding the brake pedal down too long or too frequently. This could cause the brakes to overheat, resulting in reduced brakingefficiency.
14. When going down a hill, shift into a lower gear and use the engine braking effect. When ascending a long grade, downshift the transaxle to a lower gear and reduce speedto reduce chances of engine overloadingand/or overheating.
15. If you have to stop while going uphill, do not hold the vehicle in place by pressing on theaccelerator. This can cause the automatictransaxle to overheat. Use the parking brakeor footbrake. NOTE: When towing check transaxle fluid more
frequently.
CAUTION:If overheating should occur when towing,
(temperature gauge reads near red zone), taking the following action may reduce oreliminate the problem.
1. Turn off the air conditioner.
2. Reduce highway speed.
3. Select a lower gear when going uphill.
4. While in stop and go traffic, place the gear selection in park or neutral and idle the engine at a higher speed.

SD070J1-E 8. Lower Vehicle and Tighten Nuts Lower the car to the ground turning the wheel nut wrench counterclockwise. When the vehicle isfirmly on the ground, remove the jack and tightenthe wheel nuts securely. At the first availableopportunity, the wheel nut torque should bechecked with a suitable torque wrench. Wheel nut tightening torque Steel wheel & aluminium alloy wheel:90-110 Nm. (65-80 lb.ft) SD070K1-E AFTER CHANGING WHEELS The pressure of the spare tyre should be checked at the first available opportunity. If any doubtexists as to the tyre pressure, the vehicle shouldbe driven slowly to the nearest service stationand the tyre pressure checked and adjusted asrequired.If the valve cap is lost from any of the valves, areplacement should be obtained and fitted at thefirst available opportunity. The valve cap pre-vents the ingress of dirt which may cause thevalve to stick and therefore leak and is part of thevalve sealing function. Ensure that the spare wheel, jack and wheel nut wrench as well tools are correctly located in theboot of the vehicle to prevent damage and noise.

o Vacuum, crankcase
ventilation hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evidence of heat and/or mechanical damage. Hard and brittle rub-ber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and exces-sive swelling indicate deterioration. Particularattention should be paid to examining those hosesurfaces nearest to high heat sources, such asthe exhaust manifold.Inspect the hose routing to assure that the hoses do not come in contact with any heat source,sharp edges or moving component which mightcause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspectall hose connections, such as clamps and cou-plings, to make sure they are secure, and that noleaks are present. Hoses should be replacedimmediately if there is any evidence of deteriora-tion or damage. 6ZF060H1-A
o Air cleaner filterA Genuine Hyundai air cleaner filter is recom- mended when the filter is replaced. 6ZF060J1-A
o Spark plugs Make sure to install new spark plugs of the correct heat range.

o Engine oil and filterThe engine oil and filter should be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule.If the car is being driven in severe conditions,more frequent oil and filter changes are required. 6ZF060B2-A
o Drive belts Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace ifnecessary. Drive belts should be checked peri-odically for proper tension and adjusted as nec-essary. 6ZF060C1-A
o Fuel filterA clogged filter can limit the speed at which the vehicle may be driven, damage the emissionsystem and cause hard starting. If an excessiveamount of foreign matter accumulates in the fueltank, the filter may require replacement morefrequently.After installing a new filter, run the engine forseveral minutes, and check for leaks at theconnections.

o Valve Clearance Inspect excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. A qualifiedtechnician should perform the operation.

6-6 WARNING: The oil being drained from the engine will behot. Care should be exercised to preventscalding.
4. When the oil has drained from the sump,
replace the drain plug using a new washer ensuring that the plug is not over tightened.
Tightening torque :
4.5 ~ 4.0 kgf.m (1.6/2.0L)4.5 ~ 3.5 kgf.m (2.7L)
5. Remove the oil filter by rotating counterclock- wise, using a proprietary oil filter removal toolif necessary. Note that the oil filter will containapproximately 0.5 litres of oil and this shouldbe collected in a suitable receptacle.
6. Install a new oil filter having smeared the sealing ring with clean oil and rotating clock-wise until the filter contacts the mounting andthen a further one half turn. Do not over-tighten. Tightening torque: 1.2 ~ 1.6 kgf.m.
7. Pour the specified quantity of the recom- mended oil into the engine and replace the filler cap. Start the engine and ensure that nooil leaks exist. Turn off the engine and after acouple minutes, recheck the oil level.
WARNING:Prolonged and repeated contact with usedengine oils may result in serious skin disor-ders including dermatitis and cancer. Avoidcontact with skin as far as possible and al-
G040A02GK-EAT ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT The engine oil and filter must be changed at the time or mileage interval specified in the mainte-nance schedule. If the vehicle is operated undersevere or adverse conditions, the oil and filtermust be replaced more frequently.To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normal operating
temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the parking brake securely ap-plied and the engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.
3. Prepare a suitable receptacle to collect the displaced oil and remove the drain plug fromthe sump.
G350A01A-GAT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of engine oil Engine oil has the primary function of lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption It is normal that an engine should consume some engine oil while normal driving. The cause of oilconsumption in a normal engine are as follows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pistons, piston
rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall whena piston moves downwards in the cylinder.High negative pressure generated during en-gine operation sucks some of the oil into thecombustion chamber.This oil with some oil of the cylinder wall isburned by the high temperature combustiongases during the combustion process.
o The engine oil consumption is strongly ef- fected by the viscosity and quality of oil,engine rpm and driving condition etc.More engine oil may be consumed undersevere driving conditions such as high speeds,frequent acceleration and deceleration, com-pared to normal driving.
