WARNING:
o When the SRS is activated, there may be a loud noise and fine dust will be releasedthroughout the vehicle. These conditionsare normal and are not hazardous. How-ever, the fine dust generated during airbagdeployment may cause skin irritation.Wash your hands and face thoroughlywith lukewarm water and a mild soap afteran accident in which the airbags weredeployed.
o The SRS can function only when the igni- tion key is in the "ON" position. If the SRSSRI does not come on or illuminatescontinuously when the ignition key isturned to "ON", or continuously remainson after flashing for about 6 seconds whenthe ignition key is turned to the "ON"position, or after the engine is started,comes on while driving, the SRS is notworking properly. If this occurs, have yourvehicle immediately inspected by yourHyundai dealer.
o Before you replace a fuse or disconnect a battery terminal, turn the ignition key tothe "LOCK" position or remove the igni-tion key. Never remove or replace the airbag related fuse(s) when the ignition keyis in the "ON" position. Failure to heed thiswarning will cause the SRS SRI to illumi-nate.

CAUTION: When installing a container of liquid air fresh-ener inside a vehicle, do not place it near theinstrument cluster nor on the instrument panelpad surface. If there is any leakage from theair freshener onto these areas (instrumentcluster, instrument panel pad or air ventila-tor), it may damage these parts. If the liquidfrom the air freshener does leak onto theseareas, wash them with water immediately. Your Hyundai is equipped with a side airbag ineach front seat. The purpose of the airbag is toprovide the vehicle's driver and/or the front pas-senger with additional protection than that of-fered by the seatbelt alone. The side impactairbags are designed to deploy only during cer-tain side-impact collisions, depending on thecrash severity, angle, speed and point of impact.The air bags are not designed to deploy in all sideimpact situations. WARNING:
o The side impact airbag is supplemental to
the driver's and the passenger's seat beltsystems and is not a substitute for them.Therefore your seat belts must be worn atall times while the vehicle is in motion. Theairbags deploy only in certain side impactconditions severe enough to cause sig-nificant injury to the vehicle occupants.

WARNING:
o Do not install a child restraint system in
the front passenger seat position.A child restraint system must never beplaced in the front seat. The infant or childcould be severely injured by an airbagdeployment in case of an accident.
o Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rearward facing child restraint on a seat protectedby an airbag in front of it!
o Modification to SRS components or wir-ing, including the addition of any kind of badgesto the pad cover or modifications to thebody structure, can adversely affect SRSperformance and lead to possible injury.
o For cleaning the horn pad, use only a soft, dry cloth or one which has been moist-ened with plain water. Solvents or clean-ers could adversely affect the airbag coverand proper deployment of the system.
o No objects should be placed over or near the airbag module on the steering wheel,because any such object could cause harmif the vehicle is in a crash severe enoughto cause the airbag to inflate.
o If the airbag inflates, it must be replaced by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
o Do not tamper with or disconnect SRS wiring, or other components of the SRSsystem. Doing so could result in injury,due to accidental firing of the airbag or byrendering the SRS inoperative.
o For best protection from the side airbag
system and to avoid being injured by thedeploying side airbag, both front seat oc-cupants should sit in an upright positionwith the seat belt properly fastened. Thedriver's hands should be placed on thesteering wheel at the 9:00 and 3:00 o'clockpositions. The passenger's arms andhands should be placed on their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat covers.
o Use of seat covers could prevent or re- duce the effectiveness of the system.
o Do not install any accessories on the side or near the side airbag.
o Do not use excessive force on the side of the seat.
o Do not place any objects over the airbag or between the airbag and yourself.
o Do not place any objects (an umbrella, bag, etc.) between the front door and thefront seat. Such objects may become dan-gerous projectiles and cause injury if thesupplemental side air bag inflates.
o To prevent unexpected deployment of the side air bag that may result in personalinjury,avoid impact to the side airbag sen-sor when the ignition key is on. FB110C2-F SRS Care

The SRS is virtually maintenance-free and so there are no parts you can safely service byyourself. The entire SRS system must be in-spected by an authorized Hyundai dealer 10years after the date that the vehicle was manu-factured. Any work on the SRS system, such as removing, installing, repairing, or any work on the steeringwheel must be performed by a qualified Hyundaitechnician.Improper handling of the SRS system may resultin serious personal injury.

OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP
CAUTION: If the oil pressure lamp illuminates when the engine is running, an insufficient oil pressurelevel for continued safe operation of the en-gine exists. Continued operation of the en-gine in this condition may result in seriousengine damage. Under normal circumstances, the lamp will illu- minate when the ignition is turned "on" and will beextinguished when the engine is started.If the oil pressure warning lamp illuminates whilstthe engine is running, stop the engine immedi-ately and check the engine oil level. If the level isinsufficient, add the required amount of oil asindicated by the engine oil dipstick. If the lampfails to extinguish when the engine is restarted,do not continue to operate the vehicle.If the oil pressure lamp illuminates during normaloperation and the cause is not an insufficient oillevel, or the lamp fails to illuminate when theignition is turned "on", contact the nearest Hyundaidealer before further operating the vehicle.
SB210G1-E TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR LAMPS
Operation of a turn signal is indicated by the warning lamp located in the instrument cluster. Ifthe lamp fails to illuminate or does not flash, amalfunction within the turn signal system is indi-cated.
SB210J1-E HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LAMP
The high beam indicator lamp will illuminate whenever the headlamps are switched to highbeam of flash position.

ABS SERVICE REMINDER IN- DICATOR (Not all models)
When the key is turned to the "ON" position, the Anti-Lock Brake System SRI will come on andthen go off in a few seconds. If the ABS SRIremains on, comes on while driving, or does notcome on when the key is turned to the "ON"position, this indicates that there may be a prob-lem with the ABS.If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by yourHyundai dealer as soon as possible. The normalbraking system will still be operational, but with-out the assistance of the anti-lock brake system. WARNING:If the both ABS SRI and Parking Brake/Brakefluid level warning lights remain "ON" orcome on while driving, there may be a prob-lem with E.B.D (Electronic brake force distri-bution).If this occurs, avoid sudden stops and haveyour vehicle checked by your Hyundai dealeras soon as possible.

SRS (AIRBAG) SERVICE REMINDER INDICATOR (SRI)
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for about 6 seconds after theignition key is turned to the "ON" position or afterthe engine is started, after which it will go out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI does not come on orilluminates continuously when the ignition key isturned to "ON", or continuously remains on afterflashing for about 6 seconds when you turned theignition key to the "ON" position or started theengine, or if it comes on while driving, have theSRS inspected by an authorized Hyundai Dealer.

DOOR AJAR WARNING LAMP
The door ajar warning lamp indicates that a door is not correctly closed. Ensure that the lamp isextinguished prior to driving the vehicle.

LOW FUEL LEVEL WARNING LAMP
The low fuel warning lamp serves to warn the driver that the remaining fuel quantity is approxi-mately 9 litres and that the vehicle should berefuelled. If the vehicle is driven for an extendedperiod with the low fuel warning lamp illuminatedthere exists a possibility that misfiring due to fuel
becoming defective, approximately fifty per centof the normal braking performance will be avail-able.If failure of one of the circuits occurs, the requiredamount of pedal effort, pedal travel and stoppingdistance will be increased. Use of the gearbox isrecommended to assist in bringing the vehicle torest. The vehicle must not be driven once brakefailure has occurred until the system has beenrepaired and is functioning normally.The braking system employs a vacuum servo inorder that the pedal efforts are reduced. Powerfor the servo is derived from the engine andtherefore, in the event of the engine stopping orthe vehicle being towed, pedal efforts will besubstantially increased. SB210M1-E
CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING LAMP
The charging system warning lamp should illumi- nate when the ignition switch is turned to the"ON" position and should be extinguished whenthe engine is started. If the lamp fails to illuminatewhen the ignition is turned "ON" or fails to extin-guish after starting the engine, the nearestHyundai dealer should be contacted. If the lampilluminates whilst the vehicle is being driven, stopthe vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so andcheck the condition of the generator drive belt. Ifthe belt is in place and the tension is satisfactory,the advice of a Hyundai dealer should be sought.

CAUTION: In the event of problems being suspected with the braking system, the advice of thenearest Hyundai dealer must be sought be-fore the vehicle is driven. Driving the vehiclewith either an electrical or hydraulic brakingsystem defect may be dangerous, resultingin accident or personal injury. Warning lamp operation The parking brake/brake fluid level warning lamp will be illuminated whenever the ignition switch isturned to the "ON" or "START" position when theparking brake is applied and must be extin-guished in a three seconds after the enginestarts.If the warning lamp fails to extinguish or illumi-nates at any other time, the vehicle must bebrought to rest in a safe location and the level ofbrake fluid in the reservoir checked. If the fluidlevel is incorrect, fluid conforming to DOT 3 orDOT 4 specifications should be added. HATCHBACK DOOR OPEN WARNING LAMP
The hatchback door warning lamp indicates when the hatchback door is open or is not fully closed.Ensure that the lamp has extinguished prior todriving the vehicle.CAUTION: If the drive belt (generator belt) is loose,broken, or missing while the vehicle is driv-ing, there may be a serious malfunction, en-gine could overheat because this belt alsodrives the water pump.

SB210S1-E BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATORThe front brake disc pads are fitted with an audible wear indicator which will cause a highpitched noise to be emitted when the remainingamount of friction lining is below the specifiedvalue. When the wear indicator is heard, thebrake pads should be replaced without delay toavoid damage occurring to the brake discs and asevere reduction in braking efficiency. The traction control indicators change operation according to the ignition switch position andwhether the system is in operation or not.They will illuminate when the ignition key isturned to the "ON" position, but should go outafter three seconds. If the TCS or TCS-OFFindicator stays on, take your car to your autho-rized Hyundai dealer and have the systemchecked. See section 2 for more informationabout the TCS.

SB215B1-E ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE engine is hot may cause hot water and steam to be ejected from the radiator resulting inburns and scalding. The radiator cap mustonly be removed when the engine has cooled.Do not add cold water to a hot engine to avoidthe possibility of engine damage. The use ofplain water in the cooling system is not rec-ommended since the aluminium componentsof the cooling system require the use of acorrosion inhibitor found in the recommendedEthylene Glycol type anti freeze solutions.
The engine coolant temperature gauge indicatesthe engine coolant temperature and will, undernormal circumstances, give an indication in the"Normal" or centre portion of the scale. Shouldthe indication move into the upper or "Hot" por-tion of the scale, engine overheating is indicated.Under these circumstances, the vehicle shouldbe brought to rest as soon as is safe to do so andthe engine turned off. Once the engine has cooledsomewhat, the coolant level and the condition ofthe generator/water pump drive belt should bechecked. If the cause of the overheating cannotbe readily established, the assistance of aHyundai dealer should be sought. WARNING: The engine cooling system is pressurizedand removal of the radiator cap when the The tachometer registers the speed of the enginein revolutions per minute (R.P.M.). CAUTION: The maximum safe engine operating speed isindicated by the white zone of the tachometerscale. The engine should not be operatedbeyond the beginning of this zone or seriousengine damage may result.

SB220A1-E MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH Turn Signal Operation To signal an intention to turn right, the switch lever should be pressed down. To signal anintention to turn left, the switch lever should bepushed upwards. In both instances, the turnsignal lamps on one side of the car will flash andthe warning lamp located in the instrument clus-ter will flash in sympathy. Upon completion of themanoeuvre, the lever will, under normal circum-stances, return to the "Off" position. However, ifthe manoeuvre involved only a small movementof the steering wheel, the signal may need to becancelled manually. SB240A1-EHAZARD WARNING SYSTEM The hazard warning system should be used whenever it becomes necessary to stop the carin a hazardous location. The hazard warningsystem is operated by depressing the switch atwhich time all turn signal lamps will flash simul-taneously and the turn signal warning lampslocated within the instrument cluster will flashsimultaneously.The hazard warning system may be turned off bydepressing the switch again. To operate the heated rear window depress theswitch shown. The heated rear window will auto-matically turn off after 15 minutes or when theignition is turned off.The system may be turned off manually by de-pressing the switch again. CAUTION: The inside of the rear windscreen shouldnever be cleaned with a hard or sharp imple-ment since damage to the heating elementmay occur. The glass should only be cleanedwith a soft cloth or chamois leather with theuse only of a mild detergent or proprietaryglass cleaner where necessary. Only hori-zontal movement of the cloth should be madewhen cleaning the glass and care should beexercised to ensure that the heating elementsare not damaged by rings or jewellery whilstthe glass is being cleaned.
o In icy or snowy weather, ensure that the
wiper blades are not frozen to the glassprior to operating the wipers.
