This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to the floor, dashboard outlets, or windshield. Four symbols are used to represent Face, Bi-Level,Floor and Floor-Defrost air position. Face-Level
When selecting the "Face" mode, theindicator light will come on, causing air to be discharged through the face level vents.

C160A01A-AAT The more severe weather conditions of winter result in greater wear and other problems. To minimize the prob- lems of winter driving, you should fol-low these suggestions:
C150A01A-AAT Avoid braking or gear changing in cor- ners, especially when roads are wet. Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you followthese suggestions, tire wear will be held to a minimum. Also, apply the brake gently. It should be noted that installing tire chains onthe tire will provide a greater driving force, but will not prevent side skids. NOTE: Tire chains are not legal in all prov- inces. Check province laws before fitting tire chains.
C160B01A-GAT Snowy or Icy Conditions To drive your vehicle in deep snow, it may be necessary to use snow tires or to install tire chains on your tires. Ifsnow tires are needed, it is necessary to select tires equivalent in size and type to the original equipment tires.Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your car. Speeding, rapid acceleration, suddenbrake applications, and sharp turns are potentially very hazardous prac- tices. During deceleration, use enginebraking to the fullest extent. Sudden brake applications on snowy or icy roads may cause skids to occur. Youneed to keep sufficient distance be- tween the vehicle in front and your vehicle. C160C01A-AAT Use High Quality Ethylene Glycol Coolant Your Hyundai is delivered with high quality ethylene glycol coolant in the cooling system. It is the only type of coolant that should be used because ithelps prevent corrosion in the cooling system, lubricates the water pump and prevents freezing. Be sure to replaceor replenish your coolant in accor- dance with the maintenance schedule in Section 5. Before winter, have yourcoolant tested to assure that its freez- ing point is sufficient for the tempera- tures anticipated during the winter.

4IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
D030A02A-AAT If your temperature gauge indicates overheating, you experience a loss of power, or hear loud pinging or knock- ing, the engine is probably too hot. Ifthis happens to you, you should:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P"
(automatic) or neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake. If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If engine coolant is running out un- der the car or steam is coming outfrom the hood, stop the engine. Donot open the hood until the engine coolant has stopped running or the steaming has stopped. If there is novisible loss of engine coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be sure the enginecooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive belt is missing. If it is not missing,check to see that it is tight. If the drive belt seems to be satisfactory,
3. Attach the clamps of the jumper
cable in the exact location shown.first, attach one clamp of the jumper cable to the positive (+) post or cable of the discharged battery. Thenattach the other end of the same cable to the positive (+) post or cable of the booster battery. Next,using the other cable, attach one clamp to the negative (-) post or cable of the booster battery. Thenattach the other end of that cable to a solid metal part of the engine away from the battery. Do not con-nect the cable to any moving part.
4. Start the engine in the car with the
booster battery and let it run for afew minutes. This will help to as- sure that the booster battery is fully charged. During the jumping opera-tion, run the engine in this vehicle at about 2,000 rpm.
5. Start the engine in the car with the discharged battery using the nor-mal starting procedure. After the engine starts, leave the jumpercables connected and let the engine run at fast idle or about 2,000 rpm for several minutes. 6. Carefully remove the jumper cables
in the reverse order of attachment.
If you do not know why your batterybecame discharged (because the lightswere left on, etc.), have the charging system checked by your Hyundai dealer.

check for coolant leaking from the radiator, hoses or under the car. (Ifthe air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to be draining from it when you stop).
WARNING:
While the engine is running, keephair, hands, and clothing away from moving parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury. 5. If the water pump drive belt is broken
or coolant is leaking out, stop the engine immediately and call the near- est Hyundai dealer for assistance.
WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. This can allow coolant to be blown out of the open-ing and cause serious burns.
WARNING (Diesel only):
Never work on injection system withengine running or within 30 sec- onds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors andhigh pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious in- jury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not movethan 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine

6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheating, wait until the engine temperature has returned to nor-mal. Then, if the engine coolant has been lost, carefully add coolant to the reservoir (page 6-16) to bringthe fluid level in the reservoir up to the halfway mark. CAUTION:
Serious loss of engine coolant indi- cates there is a leak in the coolingsystem and this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai dealer.

7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert
for further signs of overheating. If overheating happens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assistance.

o Spark Plugs Make sure to install new spark plugs of the correct heat range. F070B01A-GAT
o Cooling System Check the cooling system part, such as radiator, coolant reservoir, hosesand connections for leakage and dam- age. Replace any damaged parts.

o Timing Belt
Inspect all parts related to the timing belt for damage and deformation. Replace any damaged parts immedi- ately. F060G01A-AAT
o Vapor Hose and Fuel Filler Cap
The vapor hose and fuel filler cap should be inspected at those inter- vals specified in the maintenanceschedule. Make sure that a new va- por hose or fuel filler cap is correctly replaced. F060F01A-AAT
o Vacuum, Crankcase Ventila-
tion Hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-
dence of heat and/or mechanical dam- age. Hard and brittle rubber, crack- ing, tears, cuts, abrasions, and ex-cessive swelling indicate deteriora- tion. Particular attention should be paid to examine those hose surfacesnearest to high heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to assure that
the hoses do not come in contact withany heat source, sharp edges or mov- ing component which might cause heatdamage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make sure they aresecure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immedi- ately if there is any evidence of dete-rioration or damage. F060N02E-GAT
o Valve Clearance
Inspect excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if neces- sary. A qualified technician shouldperform the operation.

ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of Engine Oil
Engine oil has the primary function of
lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption
It is normal that an engine should
consume some engine oil while nor- mal driving. The cause of oil con- sumption in a normal engine are asfollows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pis- tons, piston rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall when a piston moves downwards in the cylinder. High negative pressure generated dur-ing engine operation sucks some of the oil into the combustion cham- ber.This oil with some oil of the cylin-der wall is burned by the high tem-perature combustion gases during the combustion process. o The engine oil consumption is
strongly effected by the viscosity and quality of oil, engine rpm and driving condition etc. The engine oil is more consumed under severedriving conditions such as high speeds and frequent acceleration and deceleration than normal driv-ing condition.
If the oil level is close to or below the"L" mark, add oil until it reaches the"F" mark. To add oil:
1. Remove the oil filler cap by turning
it counter-clockwise.
2. Add oil, then check the level again. Do not overfill.
3. Replace the cap by turning it clock- wise.
The distance between the "F" and "L" marks is equal to about 1 liter(Gasoline Engine)/1.6 liter(Diesel Engine) of oil.

! CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oil into a funnel. Do not overfill not todamage engine.
WARNING:
Be very careful not to touch theradiator hose when adding the en-gine oil as it may be hot enough to burn you.

Use a high quality ethylene-glycol coolant in a 50/50 mix with water. The engine coolant should be compatiblewith aluminum engine parts. Addi- tional corrosion inhibitors or additives should not be used. The cooling sys-tem must be maintained with the cor- rect concentration and type of engine coolant to prevent freezing and corro-sion. Never allow the concentration of antifreeze to exceed the 60% level or go below the 35% level, or damage tothe cooling system may result. For proper concentration when adding or replacing the engine coolant, refer tothe following table. G050C02E

To Check the Coolant Level
The coolant level can be seen on the side of the plastic coolant reservoir. The level of the coolant should bebetween the "L" and "F" lines on the reservoir when the engine is cold. If the level is below the "L" mark, addengine coolant to bring it up between "L" and "F". If the level is low, inspect for coolant leaks and recheck thefluid level frequently. If the level drops again, visit your Hyundai dealer for an inspection and diagnosis of the rea-son.

4. Turn the radiator cap counterclock-
wise without pressing down on it, until it stops. This relieves any pres- sure remaining in the cooling sys- tem. And remove the radiator cap by pushing down and turning coun-terclockwise.Fill the radiator with clean deminer-alized or distilled water. Continueto add clean demineralized or dis- tilled water in small quantities until the fluid level stays up in the radia-tor neck. G050D03E

To Change the Coolant
The coolant should be changed at
those intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Sec- tion 5.
! CAUTION:
Engine coolant can damage the
finish of your car. If you spill en- gine coolant on the car, wash it off thoroughly with clean water.
1. Park the car on level ground, set the parking brake and remove the radia- tor cap when cool.
2. Be sure your drain receptacle is in
place. Open the drain cock on theradiator. Allow all the engine cool- ant to drain from the cooling sys- tem, then securely close the draincock.
3. Check Section 9 for the capacity of the cooling system in your car.Then, following the manufacturer's directions on the engine coolant container, add the appropriatequantity of coolant to the radiator.
!WARNING:
Remove the radiator cap when the
radiator is cool. 5. Start the engine, top off the radiator
with water and then add engine coolant to the reservoir until thelevel is between "L" and "F".
6. Replace the radiator and reservoir
caps and check to be sure the draincocks are fully closed and not leak- ing.
