C090A02ENOTE:Depress the brake pedal and push the button when shifting. Push the button when shifting. The selector lever can be shiftedfreely.
For optimum fuel economy, acceler-ate gradually. The transaxle will auto- matically shift to the second, third and overdrive gears.
The highly efficient Hyundai automatic transaxle has four forward speeds and one reverse speed. It has a conven- tional shift pattern as shown in theillustration. At night, with the first posi- tion of the multi-function switch, the appropriate symbol on the shift patternindicator will be illuminated according to the range selected.
WARNING:
o Avoid high cornering speeds.
o Do not make quick steering wheel movements, such as sharp lane changes or fast, sharp turns.
o Always wear your seat belts.
In a collision, an unbelted personis significantly more likely to die than a person wearing a seat belt.
o The risk of rollover is greatly in-
creased if you lose control of yourvehicle at highway speeds.
o Loss of control often occurs if two
or more wheels drop off the road-way and the driver oversteers to reenter the roadway.
o In the event your vehicle leaves the roadway, do not steer sharply.Instead, slow down before pullingback into the travel lanes.
o Never exceed posted speed limits. CAUTION:
Never shift into "R" or "P" position while the vehicle is moving.

WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
13IF YOU LOSE YOUR KEYSEMERGENCY TOWING

For emergency towing when no com- mercial tow vehicle is available, attach a tow cable, chain or strap to one of thetowing hooks under the front / rear of your vehicle. Do not attempt to tow your vehicle in this manner on any unpavedsurface. This could result in serious damage to your vehicle. Nor should towing be attempted if thewheels, drive train, axles, steering or brakes are damaged. Before towing, be sure the transaxle is in neutral andthe key is in "ACC" (with the engine off) or in the "ON" position (with the engine running). A driver must be in the towedvehicle to steer it and operate the brakes. HXD370
D120A01A-GAT If you lose your keys, many Hyundai dealers can make you a new key if you have your key number. If you lock the keys inside your vehicle and you can-not obtain a new key, many Hyundai dealers can use special tools to open the door for you. Information about the key of immobi- lizer system (If installed) will be foundon page 1-5.

NOTE: Before towing, check the level of the automatic transaxle fluid. If it is be- low the "HOT" range on the dipstick,add fluid. If you cannot add fluid, a towing dolly must be used.
CAUTION:
If the car is being towed with all four wheels on the ground, it can be towed only from the front. Be sure that the transaxle is in neutral. Do not tow at speeds greater than 50 km/h (30 mph) and for more than 25 km (15miles). Be sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC" posi-tion. A driver must be in the towed vehicle to operate the steering and brakes.

I050A02E-GAT TIRE CHAINS Tire chains, if necessary should be installed on the front wheels. Be sure that the chains are installed in accor- dance with the manufacturer's instruc-tions.To minimize tire and chain wear, donot continue to use tire chains when they are no longer needed.
WARNING:
o When driving on roads covered with snow or ice, drive at less than 30 km/h (20 mph).
o Use the SAE "S" class or wire &
plastic chains.
o If you have noise caused by chains contacting the body, re-tighten the chain to avoid con- tact with the vehicle body.
o To prevent body damage, re- tighten the chains after driving0.5 ~ 1 km.
I040A01S-GAT SNOW TIRES If you equip your car with snow tires, they should be the same size and have the same load capacity as the original tires. Snow tires should beinstalled on all four wheels; other- wise, poor handling may result. Snow tires should carry 28 kPa (4 psi) more air pressure than the pres- sure recommended for the standardtires on the tire label on, or up to the maximum pressure shown on the tire sidewall whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 120 km/h (75 mph) when your car is equipped with snow tires.
CAUTION:
Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least three hours and hasn't been drivenmore than 1.6 km or one mile since starting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pressure of other tires.

WARNING:
o Driving on worn-out tires is dan- gerous! Worn-out tires can cause loss of braking effectiveness,steering control and traction. When replacing tires, never mix radial and bias-ply tires on thesame car. If you replace radial tires with bias-ply tires, they must be installed in sets of four.
o Your vehicle is equipped with tires designed to provide for saferide and handling capability.Do not use a size and type of tireand wheel that is different from the one that is originally installed on your vehicle. It can affect thesafety and performance of your vehicle, which could lead to han- dling failure or rollover and seri-ous injury. HXD091-1
When replacing the tires, be sure to equip all four tires with the tireand wheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carrying ca- pacity. If you nevertheless decideto equip your vehicle with any tire/wheel combination not rec- ommended by Hyundai for off-road driving, you should not use these tires for highway driving.
