In addition it is recommended that when parking the vehicle on a gradient, the shift lever should be positioned in theappropriate low gear on manual transaxle vehicles or in the P (Park) position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
CAUTION:
Driving with the parking brake ap-plied will cause excessive brake pad (or lining) and brake rotor wear. Releasing the parking brake To release the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and pull up the parkingbrake lever slightly. Secondly, depress the release button and lower the parking brake lever whilst holding the button.
WARNING:
Whenever leaving or parking the ve-hicle, always apply the parking brakefully and engage the appropriate low gear (Park position for automatic transmission models). Failure toapply the parking brake correctly could result in the vehicle moving inadvertently.

This is used to select fresh outside air or recirculation inside air. FreshRecirculation
With the " " mode selected, airenters the vehicle from outside and is heated or cooled according to the otherfunctions selected. With the " " mode selected, air from within the passenger compartment isdrawn through the heating system and heated or cooled according to the other functions selected. HTB036-D
NOTE: It should be noted that prolonged operation of the heating system in " " mode will give rise to mistingof the windscreen and side windows and the air within the passenger com- partment will become stale. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input canall affect whether ESP will be effective in preventing a loss of control. It is still your responsibility to drive and cornerat reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.
WARNING:
Electronic stability program is a driv- ing aid; all normal precautions for driving in inclement weather and on slippery road surfaces should beobserved.
! CAUTION:
Driving with varying tyre or wheel size may cause the ESP system to malfunction. When replacing tyres,make sure they are the same size as your original tyres. C310D01JM-EAT Indicators and Warning The indicators should illuminate when the ignition key is turned to ON orSTART but should go out after approxi- mately 3 seconds. If the indicators do not illuminate, or theESP-OFF indicator does not go out after approximately 3 seconds, have the vehicle checked by Hyundaiauthorised repairer. Should there be any unusual conditions in the device whilst driving, ESP-OFF indicator illuminates as a warning. If ESP-OFF indicator illuminates, pullyour car to a safe place and stop the engine. Then, start the engine again to check ifthe ESP-OFF indicator goes out. If the indicator remains lit even after the engine has been started, have your car checked by Hyundai authorised repairer.
C310B01JM-AAT ESP ON/OFF Mode When the ESP is operating, the ESP indicator in the instrument cluster willblink. If you turn the system off by pressing the ESP switch, the ESP-OFF indica-tor will come on and stay on. In the ESP-OFF mode, the stability control will be deactivated. Adjust your drivingaccordingly. To turn the system back on, press the switch again. The ESP- OFF indicator should go off. NOTE: The ESP mode will automatically be turned ON after the engine is turned off and restarted.

o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal.
This can increase fuel consumption and also increase wear on thesecomponents. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat,which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con- sequences.
o Take care of your tyres. Keep them inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect infla-tion, either toomuch or too little, results in unnec- essary tyre wear. Check the tyre pressures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or drivingtoo fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tyre wear and may also result in other prob-lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption. o Keep your car in good condition. For
better fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain yourcar in accordance with the mainte- nance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions,more frequent maintenance is re- quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum
service, your car should be keptclean and free of corrosive materi- als. It is especially important thatmud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of the car. This extra weight can result inincreased fuel consumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces-
sary weight in your car. Weight is anenemy of good fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than
necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engine and restart only when you're readyto go.
SC150A1-F DRIVING FOR ECONOMY You can save fuel and get more miles from your car if you follow these sug-gestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a
moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruisingspeed. Don't race between stop- lights. Try to adjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don'thave to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic whenever pos-sible. Always maintain a safe dis- tance from other vehicles so you can avoid unnecessary braking. Thisalso reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster
you drive, the more fuel your caruses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the highway, is one of the most effective ways to reducefuel consumption.

The use of a proprietary stabiliser will assist in achieving an inherently stable outfit but whilst the use of such equip-ment will improve the characteristics of a balanced outfit, it will not compen- sate for a badly loaded and thereforeunstable outfit. The tyres and braking equipment fitted to the trailer or caravan must be main- tained in accordance with the recom- mendations of the manufacturer. Spe-cial attention should be paid to tyres which deteriorate through time and exposure rather than as a result of thedistances towed. The inside walls of the tyres should be inspected along with the outside walls for cracking anddamage. The trailer wheel nut torque must be checked on a regular basis, preferably before each towing ses-sion.

C190E01L C195F02TB-EAT TOWING ATTACHMENTS It is strongly recommended that only an Hyundai Approved towing attach-ment is used to ensure that the loads placed upon the body structure are correctly distributed. The use of a nonapproved attachment will result in the invalidation of the vehicle warranty. Hyundai towing attachments are de-signed and constructed to ensure maximum towing performance and ease of fitment. A range of accesso-ries including electrical kits are avail- able through the Hyundai authorised repairer network. It is of the utmost importance that those areas of the vehicle which aresubjected to greater stress during tow- ing are maintained in accordance with the recommendations given at the endof this book. In addition, the daily oper- ating checks relating to engine oil, transmission oil and tyres must beperformed at each refuelling to ensure maximum reliability and safety.
C190E02TB-EAT TRAILER AND CARAVAN TOW- ING
WARNING:
It is not recommended that the ve- hicle be used for towing until thefirst 1,000 miles of Running In has been completed. All Hyundai Getz models are suited to towing trailersand caravans up to the limits indi- cated on page 2-21. This models fitted with automatic transaxle havea transaxle oil cooler and further transaxle cooling should not be re- quired.

D040A01TB-EAT TEMPORARY SPARE TYRE (Not all models) The following instructions for the tem- porary spare tyre should be observed:
1. Check inflation pressure as soon as
practical after installing the spare tyre, and adjust to the specifiedpressure. The tyre pressure should be periodically checked and main- tained at the specified pressurewhile the tyre is stored.
6. If the cause of the overheating can- not be found, wait until the enginetemperature has returned to normal. Then, if coolant has been lost, care- fully remove the radiator cap and addwater to bring the fluid level in the reservoir up to the base of the radia- tor fill opening. Fill the coolant ex-pansion tank to the halfway mark. To ensure the correct water to cool- ant mix is obtained after top up,testing by an authorised repairer is required. WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap whenthe engine is hot since steam and boiling water may be ejected fromthe radiator resulting in burns or scalding.

2. The spare tyre should only be used temporarily and should be returned to the luggage compartment as soonas the original tyre can be repairered or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 50 mph(80 km/h) is not recom-mended.
4. As the temporary spare tyre is spe- cifically designed for your car, itshould not be used on any other vehicle.

5. If the water pump drive belt is broken
or coolant is leaking out, stop theengine immediately and call the near-est Hyundai authorised repairer for assistance.
! CAUTION:
Serious loss of coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soonas possible by a Hyundai authorised repairer.
7. Proceed with caution until it is estab-
lished that the engine is operating normally. If the engine overheatsrepeatedly, the advice of a Hyundai authorised repairer should be sought.

SE050E1-E WINDOWS A proprietary glass cleaner should be used to clean the inside of the win- dows. However, the rear heated wind- shield must only be cleaned using alight horizontal cleaning action. Care should be exercised to avoid the use of abrasive cleaners or contact with itemsof jewellery which may damage the heating elements.
SE050A1-E INTERIOR During the winter period, it is possible that the passenger compartment floor-ing may become wet from damp foot- wear or quantities of snow adhering to footwear. The carpet should not beallowed to remain in this condition since the carpet may begin to create musty smells and will promote corrosion ofthe floor pan in addition to the carpet and under felt beginning to rot. SE050C1-E INTERIOR VALETING The soft trim and carpets should be maintained with the regular use of a vacuum cleaner. Heavy soiling shouldbe removed with a dry cleaning agent recommended for this purpose follow- ing the instructions of the productmanufacturer. Paint thinner, solvents or other such cleaning materials should not be used since damage to the up-holstery may result. SE050D1-E SEAT BELTS Seat belts should be cleaned only with a mild soap solution. Strong deter-gents, solvents or bleaches may dam- age the belt webbing and therefore reduce the effectiveness of the belt.Belts which display signs of fraying, wear or cuts should be replaced.
YE010A1-E To Clean Leather Upholstery (Not all models) In the normal course of use, leather upholstered surfaces will, like any ma- terial, pick-up dust and dirt. This dustand dirt MUST be cleaned off or it may work into the surface of the leather, causing damage.Fine leather needs care. This care, as with all fine things, need not be elabo- rate, but should include cleaning whennecessary. Washing leather thoroughly with soap and water will keep your leather lustrous, beautiful and ensureyou have many years of wear. Take a piece of cheese cloth and using any mild soap and lukewarm water,work up a good lather. Thoroughly wash the leather. Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and dry with soft cloth. Dothis as often as the leather becomes soiled. During tanning operations, sufficientoils are incorporated through process- ing that none need be applied during the life of the leather. Oil applied to thefinished surface will in no way help the leather and may do more harm than good. Varnished and furniture polishesshould NEVER be used under any con- ditions.

SG050C2-E Engine Coolant Level The engine coolant level may be ob- served through the side of the plasticcoolant reservoir (expansion tank) when the engine is cold. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add coolant of thecorrect concentration until the level is between the "LOW" and "Full" marks. If the level falls below the "LOW" mark ona regular basis despite being topped up, consult a Hyundai authorised repairer.
!WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled by en- gine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when theengine is not running. Use extreme caution when working near the blades of the cooling fan so that youare not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will auto-matically shut off. This is a normal condition.

2. Unsnap the clips around the cover.
3. Lift the cover off.
4. Remove the old filter and replace to the new one. Genuine Hyundai Re- placement Parts are recommended.
CAUTION:
Operating your vehicle without aproper air filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.
