Electric Vehicle
An electric vehicle is driven using a
battery and an electric motor. While
general vehicles use an internal
combustion engine and gasoline as
fuel, electric vehicles use electricalenergy that is charged inside the
high voltage battery. As a result,
electric vehicles are eco-friendly in
that they do not require fuel and do
not emit exhaust gases.
Characteristics of Electric
Vehicles
1.It is driven using the electricalenergy that is charged inside the
high voltage battery. This method
prevents air pollution since fuel,
like gasoline, is not required,
negating the emission of exhaust
gases.
2.A high performance motor is used in the vehicle as well. Compared to
standard, internal combustion
engine vehicles, engine noise and
vibrations are much more minimal
when driving.
3.When decelerating or driving downhill, regenerative braking is
utilized to charge the high voltage
battery. This minimizes energy lossand increases the distance to
empty.
4.When the battery charge is not suf- ficient, normal charge, quick
charge and trickle charge are avail-
able. (Refer to “Charge Types for
Electric Vehicle” for details.) Information
What does regenerative braking do?
It uses an electric motor when deceler-
ating and braking and transforms
kinetic energy to electrical energy in
order to charge the high voltage bat-
tery. (Torque is applied in the opposite
direction when decelerating to gener-
ate braking force and electric energy.)
Battery Information
The vehicle is composed of a high voltage battery that drives the
motor and air-conditioner, and an
auxiliary battery (12 V) that drives
the lamps, wipers, and audio sys-tem.
The auxiliary battery is automati- cally charged when the vehicle is in
the ready ( ) mode or the high
voltage battery is being charged.

ECO Driving
You can check ECO level information
and ECO driving history.
ECO Level
A total of 8 ECO levels and the aver- age energy consumption are dis-
played depending on vehicle driving
style.
Driving History
You can check the date (1), distance
(2), and the fuel economy (3) rating
of the previous driving trips. The date
with the highest ECO level is markedwith a star shaped icon.
Charging and Climate Settings
You can set the date and time of
when to charge the battery and the
climate control temperature. Two
separate schedules can be set.
Also, you may select the time to start
charging using the Off-peak Time.

Average fuel economy/Instant fuel economy
Average Fuel Economy (1)
The average fuel economy is calcu- lated by the total driving distance
and the high voltage battery con-
sumption since the last average
fuel economy reset.
The average fuel economy can be reset both manually and automati-
cally. Manual reset
To clear the average fuel economy
manually, press the OK button on the
steering wheel for more than 1 sec-
ond when the average fuel economy
is displayed.
Automatic reset
To automatically reset the average
fuel economy after recharging, select
the “After Recharging” mode in User
Settings menu on the LCD display
(Refer to "LCD Display" in this
chapter).
Under “After Recharging” mode, the
average fuel economy will be cleared
to zero (----), when the driving distance
exceeds 300m (0.19 miles) afterrecharging more than 10%.
Instant Fuel Economy (2)
This mode displays the instanta-
neous fuel economy while driving.
Tripmeter/Average vehicle speed/
Elapsed time
Tripmeter (1)
The tripmeter is the total driving distance since the last tripmeter reset.
To reset the tripmeter, press the OK button on the steering wheel
for more than 1 second when the
tripmeter is displayed.

Driving Info display
At the end of each driving cycle, the
Driving Info message is displayed.
This display shows the trip distance
(1), average fuel economy (2),
remaining vehicle range (3), chargingtime status (4) and climate time sta-tus (5).
This information is displayed for a few
seconds when you turn off the vehi-
cle, and then goes off automatically.
The information is calculated for each
time the vehicle is turned on.Information
If sunroof open warning is displayed in the cluster, the Driving Info mes-
sage will not be displayed.
To set the charging time and/or cli- mate time, refer to a separately sup-
plied Multimedia System manual
for detailed information.
Energy flow
The electric vehicle system informs
the drivers its energy flow in various
operating modes. While driving, the
current energy flow is specified in 3
modes.

The drive mode may be selected
according to the driver's preferenceor road condition. The system resets to be in the NOR-
MAL mode (except if it is in ECO
mode), when the vehicle is restarted.Information
If there is a problem with the instru-
ment cluster, the drive mode will be in
NORMAL mode and may not change
to ECO mode or SPORT mode. The mode changes, as below,
whenever the DRIVE MODE buttonis pressed.
When NORMAL mode is selected,
it is not displayed on the instrument
cluster.
ECO mode
ECO mode improves fuelefficiency for eco-friendly
driving.
• When ECO mode is selected by pressing the DRIVE MODE button,
the ECO indicator (green color) will
illuminate.
If the vehicle is set to ECO mode, when the vehicle is turned OFF
and restarted the Drive Mode set-
ting will remain in ECO mode.

Two labels on your driver’s door sill
show how much weight your vehicle
was designed to carry: the Tire and
Loading Information Label and the
Certification Label.
Before loading your vehicle, familiar-
ize yourself with the following terms
for determining your vehicle's weight
ratings, from the vehicle's specifica-
tions and the Certification Label:
Base Curb Weight
This is the weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all
standard equipment. It does not
include passengers, cargo, or option-al equipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight
This is the weight of your new vehicle
when you picked it up from your deal-
er plus any aftermarket equipment.
Cargo Weight
This figure includes all weight added
to the Base Curb Weight, includingcargo and optional equipment.GAW (Gross Axle Weight)
This is the total weight placed on each axle (front and rear) - including
vehicle curb weight and all payload.
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating)
This is the maximum allowable
weight that can be carried by a single
axle (front or rear). These numbers
are shown on the Certification Label.
The total load on each axle must
never exceed its GAWR.
GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)
This is the Base Curb Weight plus
actual Cargo Weight plus passen-
gers.
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
This is the maximum allowable
weight of the fully loaded vehicle
(including all options, equipment,
passengers and cargo). The GVWR
is shown on the Certification Label
located on the driver’s door sill.Overloading

The Gross Axle Weight Rating
(GAWR) and the Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating (GVWR) for your
vehicle are on the Certification
Label attached to the driver's
(or front passenger’s) door.Exceeding these ratings can
cause an accident or vehicle
damage. You can calculate the
weight of your load by weighing
the items (and people) before
putting them in the vehicle. Be
careful not to overload your
vehicle.
