SMOOTH CORNERING
Avoid braking or gear changing in corners, espe- cially when roads are wet. Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you follow these suggestions, tire wear will be held to a minimum.
curbs or driving too fast over irregular surfac- es. Poor alignment causes faster tire wear and may also result in other problems as well as greater fuel consumption.
o Keep your car in good condition. For better
fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain your car in accordance with the maintenance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions, more frequent maintenance is required (see Sec- tion 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your Hyundai should be kept clean and free of corrosive materials. It is especially important that mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of the car. This extra weight can result in increased fuel con- sumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unnecessary weight
in your car. Weight reduces fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than neces-
sary. If you are waiting (and not in traffic), turn off your engine and restart only when you're ready to go.
o Remember, your Hyundai does not require
extended warm-up. As soon as the engine is running smoothly, you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period.
o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slowly in too high a gear result- ing in the engine bucking. If this happens, shift to a lower gear. Over-revving is racing the engine beyond its safe limit. This can be C160A01A-AAT WINTER DRIVING The more severe weather conditions of winter result in greater wear and other problems. To minimize the problems of winter driving, you should follow these suggestions: C160B01A-GAT Snowy or Icy ConditionsTo drive your vehicle in deep snow, it may be necessary to use snow tires or to install tire chains on your tires. If snow tires are needed, it is necessary to select tires equivalent in size and type to the original equipment tires. Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your car. Speeding, rapid acceleration, sud- den brake applications, and sharp turns are potentially very hazardous practices. During

o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a moderate
rate. Don't make "jack-rabbit" starts or full- throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruising speed. Don't race between stoplights. Try to adjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don't have to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic whenever possible. Always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles so you can avoid unnecessary brak- ing. This also reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel your car uses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the high- way, is one of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This
can increase fuel consumption and also in- crease wear on these components. In addi- tion, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious consequences.
o Take care of your tires. Keep them inflated to the recommended pressure. Incorrect infla- tion, either too much or too little, results in unnecessary tire wear. Check the tire pres- sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly.
Improper alignment can result from hitting avoided by shifting at the recommendedspeeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly. The air
conditioning system is operated by engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it.

WARNING: While the engine is running, keep hair, hands, and clothing away from moving parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury.
5. If the water pump drive belt is broken or
coolant is leaking out, stop the engine im- mediately and call the nearest Hyundai deal- er for assistance.
WARNING: Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. This can allow coolant to be blown out of the opening and cause serious burns. WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injec- tors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not move than 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields. 2. The spare tire should only be used temporari-
ly and should be returned to the luggage compartment as soon as the original tire can be repaired or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 80 km/h (50 mph) is not recommended.
4. As the temporary spare tire is specifically designed for your car, it should not be used on any other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tire should not be used
on any other wheels, nor should standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. If such use is attempted, damage to these items or other car components may occur.
6. The temporary spare tire pressure should be
checked once a month while the tire is stored.
CAUTION:
o Do not use snow chains with your tempo- rary spare tire.
o Do not use more than one temporary spare tire at a time.
D040A01FC-GAT TEMPORARY SPARE TIRE The following instructions for the temporary spare tire should be observed:
1. Check inflation pressure as soon as possible
after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure should be periodically checked and maintained at the specified pressure while the tire is stored.

6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheat-
ing, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal. Then, if the engine cool- ant has been lost, carefully remove the radia- tor cap and add engine coolant to bring the fluid level in the reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for fur- ther signs of overheating. If overheating hap- pens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assis- tance.
CAUTION: Serious loss of engine coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai dealer.

WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
3-4 D060A01A-AAT CHANGING A FLAT TIRE The procedure described on the following pages can be used to rotate tires as well as to change a flat tire. When preparing to change a flat tire, check to be sure the gear selector lever is in "P" (automatic transaxle) or reverse gear (manual transaxle) and that the parking brake is set, then:

2. When the car is stopped, turn on your emer-
gency hazard flashers, set the parking brake and put the transaxle in "P" (automatic) or reverse (manual transaxle).
3. Have all passengers get out of the car. Be
sure they all get out on the side of the car that is away from traffic.
4. Change the tire following the instructions pro- vided on the following pages.

Remove the installation bolt to remove the spare tire. To replace the spare tire in its storage compartment, tighten the bolt firmly with your fingers until there is no more play in the spare tire.
D050A01A-AAT IF YOU HAVE A FLAT TIRE If a tire goes flat while you are driving:
1. Take your foot off the accelerator pedal and let the car slow down while driving straight ahead. Do not apply the brakes immediately or attempt to pull off the road as this may cause a loss of control. When the car has slowed to such a speed that it is safe to do so, brake carefully and pull off the road. Drive off the road as far as possible and park on firm, level ground. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median area between the two traffic lanes.

TIRE CHAINS
Tire chains, if necessary should be installed on
the front wheels. Be sure that the chains are installed in accordance with the manufacturer'sinstructions.
To minimize tire and chain wear, do not contin-
ue to use tire chains when they are no longerneeded.
WARNING: When driving on roads covered with snow
or ice, drive at less than 30 km/h (20 mph). I060A01FC-GAT
TIRE ROTATION
Tires should be rotated every 10,000 km (6,000 miles). If you notice that tires are wearing un-evenly between rotations, have the car checkedby a Hyundai dealer so the cause may becorrected. After rotating, adjust the tire pressures and be sure to check wheel nut torque. WARNING:
o Do not use the temporary spare tire for tire rotation.
o Do not mix bias-ply and radial-ply tires under any circumstances. This may cause dangerous handling characteristics.

SNOW TIRES
If you equip your car with snow tires, theyshould be the same size and have the sameload capacity as the original tires. Snow tiresshould be installed on all four wheels; other-wise, poor handling may result. Snow tires should carry 28 kPa (4 psi) more air pressure than the pressure recommended forthe standard tires on the tire label on, or up tothe maximum pressure shown on the tiresidewall whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 120 km/h (75 mph) when your car is equipped with snow tires.
Tire pressures should be checked at leastmonthly. Proper tire inflation pressures shouldbe maintained for these reasons:
o Lower-than-recommended tire pressures
cause uneven tread wear and poor han- dling.
o Higher-than-recommended tire pressures increase the chance of damage from im-pacts and cause uneven tread wear.
CAUTION: Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least three hours and hasn't been driv-en more than 1.6 km or one mile sincestarting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pressure ofother tires.
o Never overload your car. Be especially careful about overloading if you equipyour car with a luggage rack or car topcarrier.

TIRE BALANCING
A tire that is out of balance may affect handling and tire wear. The tires on your Hyundai werebalanced before the car was delivered but mayneed balancing again during the years you ownthe car. Whenever a tire is dismounted for repair, it should be rebalanced before being reinstalled on the car. I080A01A-AAT
TIRE TRACTION Tire traction can be reduced if you drive on
worn tires, tires that are improperly inflated or on slippery road surfaces. Tires should be re- placed when tread wear indicators appear. To reduce the possibility of losing control, slowdown whenever there is rain, snow or ice on theroad. The original tires on your car have tread wear
indicators. The tread wear indicators appearwhen the tread depth is 1.6 mm (0.06 in.). Thetire should be replaced when these appear as asolid bar across two or more grooves of thetread. Always replace your tires with those ofthe recommended size. If you change wheels,the new wheel's rim width and offset must meetHyundai specification.
WARNING:
o Driving on worn-out tires is dangerous! Worn-out tires can cause loss of brakingeffectiveness, steering control and trac-tion. When replacing tires, never mix ra-dial and bias-ply tires on the same car. Ifyou replace radial tires with bias-ply tires,they must be installed in sets of four. I100A01FC-GAT

Seat Belt Occupancy The seat belts are designed to be used by one
seat occupant only. The use of a seat belt by more than one person increases the levels ofinjury which may be sustained in the event ofan accident. Do Not Lie Down
To ensure that the maximum level of protec-
tion may be afforded by the seat belt system, all passengers should be sitting in an uprightposition throughout the journey. The seat beltwill be unable to afford maximum protection ifthe front seats are at or near the fully reclinedposition. In addition,care should be exercised to ensure that the beltassemblies do not become damaged by beingtrapped in seat mechanisms, door shuts etc.

Periodic Inspection It is recommended that all seat belts be in-
spected periodically for wear or damage of anykind. Parts of the system that are damagedshould be replaced as soon as possible. Underno circumstances must any part of the seat beltassemblies be dismantled or repaired.

Keep Belts Clean and Dry Seat belts should be kept clean and dry. If
belts become dirty, they can be cleaned usinga mild soap solution and warm water. Bleach,dye, strong detergents or abrasives shouldnot be used since the fabric may becomedamaged and weakened.

Replacement of Seat Belts The entire seat belt assembly or assemblies
should be replaced if the vehicle has beeninvolved in an accident even if no damage isevident. Additional questions concerning seatbelt operation should be directed to a HyundaiDealer.
SB090A1-E SEAT BELT PRECAUTIONS Seat belts should be worn at all times by all occupants front and rear. The possibility ofinjury or the severity of injuries suffered in theevent of an accident will be greatly reduced bythe wearing of seat belts. In addition the following recommendations should be observed. SB090B1-E Babies/Small ChildrenBabies and small children must be restrained using a restraint system specifically designedfor this purpose. Under no circumstancesshould a child be carried in the vehicle withoutthe use of a suitable restraint which meets theregulations in force in the country where thevehicle is in operation. SB090C1-E Larger ChildrenLarger children should occupy the rear seat and be restrained at all times. The restraintmay take the form of a special safety belt orthe original factory fitted seat belt used inconjunction with an approved booster cushiondepending upon the size and weight of thechild. Under no circumstances should childrenbe allowed to travel standing, kneeling or lyingon the seat. Never allow children to ride in the front pas- senger seat.
