SMOOTH CORNERING
Avoid braking or gear changing in corners, espe- cially when roads are wet. Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you follow these suggestions, tire wear will be held to a minimum.
curbs or driving too fast over irregular surfac- es. Poor alignment causes faster tire wear and may also result in other problems as well as greater fuel consumption.
o Keep your car in good condition. For better
fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain your car in accordance with the maintenance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions, more frequent maintenance is required (see Sec- tion 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your Hyundai should be kept clean and free of corrosive materials. It is especially important that mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed to accumulate on the underside of the car. This extra weight can result in increased fuel con- sumption and also contribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unnecessary weight
in your car. Weight reduces fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than neces-
sary. If you are waiting (and not in traffic), turn off your engine and restart only when you're ready to go.
o Remember, your Hyundai does not require
extended warm-up. As soon as the engine is running smoothly, you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period.
o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slowly in too high a gear result- ing in the engine bucking. If this happens, shift to a lower gear. Over-revving is racing the engine beyond its safe limit. This can be C160A01A-AAT WINTER DRIVING The more severe weather conditions of winter result in greater wear and other problems. If snow tires are needed, it is necessary to select tires equivalent in size and type to the original equipment tires. Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your car. o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a moderate
rate. Don't make "jack-rabbit" starts or full- throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruising speed. Don't race between stoplights. Try to adjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don't have to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic whenever possible. Always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles so you can avoid unnecessary brak- ing. This also reduces brake wear.
o Drive at a moderate speed. The faster you drive, the more fuel your car uses. Driving at a moderate speed, especially on the high- way, is one of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This
can increase fuel consumption and also in- crease wear on these components. In addi- tion, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious consequences.
o Take care of your tires. Keep them inflated to the recommended pressure. Incorrect infla- tion, either too much or too little, results in unnecessary tire wear. Check the tire pres- sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly.
Improper alignment can result from hitting avoided by shifting at the recommendedspeeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly. The air
conditioning system is operated by engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it.

WARNING: While the engine is running, keep hair, hands, and clothing away from moving parts such as the fan and drive belts to prevent injury.
5. If the water pump drive belt is broken or
coolant is leaking out, stop the engine im- mediately and call the nearest Hyundai deal- er for assistance.
WARNING: Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. This can allow coolant to be blown out of the opening and cause serious burns. WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with engine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injec- tors and high pressure pipes are subject to high pressure even after the engine stopped. The fuel jet produced by fuel leaks may cause serious injury, if it touch the body. People using pacemakers should not move than 30cm closer to the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, since the high currents in the Common Rail system produce considerable magnetic fields. 2. The spare tire should only be used temporari-
ly and should be returned to the luggage compartment as soon as the original tire can be repaired or replaced.
3. Continuous use at speeds of over 80 km/h (50 mph) is not recommended.
4. As the temporary spare tire is specifically designed for your car, it should not be used on any other vehicle.
5. The temporary spare tire should not be used
on any other wheels, nor should standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim rings be used with the temporary spare wheel. If such use is attempted, damage to these items or other car components may occur.
6. The temporary spare tire pressure should be
checked once a month while the tire is stored.
CAUTION:
o Do not use snow chains with your tempo- rary spare tire.
o Do not use more than one temporary spare tire at a time.

1. Check inflation pressure as soon as possible
after installing the spare tire, and adjust to the specified pressure. The tire pressure should be periodically checked and maintained at the specified pressure while the tire is stored.

6. If you cannot find the cause of the overheat-
ing, wait until the engine temperature has returned to normal. Then, if the engine cool- ant has been lost, carefully remove the radia- tor cap and add engine coolant to bring the fluid level in the reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7. Proceed with caution, keeping alert for fur- ther signs of overheating. If overheating hap- pens again, call a Hyundai dealer for assis- tance.
CAUTION: Serious loss of engine coolant indicates there is a leak in the cooling system and this should be checked as soon as possible by a Hyundai dealer.

TIRE CHAINS
Tire chains, if necessary should be installed on
the front wheels. Be sure that the chains are installed in accordance with the manufacturer'sinstructions.
To minimize tire and chain wear, do not contin-
ue to use tire chains when they are no longerneeded.
WARNING: When driving on roads covered with snow

TIRE ROTATION
Tires should be rotated every 10,000 km (6,000 miles). If you notice that tires are wearing un-evenly between rotations, have the car checkedby a Hyundai dealer so the cause may becorrected. After rotating, adjust the tire pressures and be sure to check wheel nut torque. WARNING:
o Do not use the temporary spare tire for tire rotation.
o Do not mix bias-ply and radial-ply tires under any circumstances. This may cause dangerous handling characteristics.

SNOW TIRES
If you equip your car with snow tires, theyshould be the same size and have the sameload capacity as the original tires. Snow tiresshould be installed on all four wheels; other-wise, poor handling may result. Snow tires should carry 28 kPa (4 psi) more air pressure than the pressure recommended forthe standard tires on the tire label on, or up tothe maximum pressure shown on the tiresidewall whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 120 km/h (75 mph) when your car is equipped with snow tires.
Tire pressures should be checked at leastmonthly. Proper tire inflation pressures shouldbe maintained for these reasons:
o Lower-than-recommended tire pressures
cause uneven tread wear and poor han- dling.
o Higher-than-recommended tire pressures increase the chance of damage from im-pacts and cause uneven tread wear.
CAUTION: Always observe the following:
o Check pressures when the tires are cold. That is, after the car has been parked for at least three hours and hasn't been driv-en more than 1.6 km or one mile sincestarting up.
o Check the pressure of your spare tire each time you check the pressure ofother tires.
o Never overload your car. Be especially careful about overloading if you equipyour car with a luggage rack or car topcarrier.

TIRE BALANCING
A tire that is out of balance may affect handling and tire wear. The tires on your Hyundai werebalanced before the car was delivered but mayneed balancing again during the years you ownthe car. Whenever a tire is dismounted for repair, it should be rebalanced before being reinstalled on the car. I080A01A-AAT
TIRE TRACTION Tire traction can be reduced if you drive on
worn tires, tires that are improperly inflated or on slippery road surfaces. Tires should be re- placed when tread wear indicators appear. To reduce the possibility of losing control, slowdown whenever there is rain, snow or ice on theroad. The original tires on your car have tread wear
indicators. The tread wear indicators appearwhen the tread depth is 1.6 mm (0.06 in.). Thetire should be replaced when these appear as asolid bar across two or more grooves of thetread. Always replace your tires with those ofthe recommended size. If you change wheels,the new wheel's rim width and offset must meetHyundai specification.
WARNING:
o Driving on worn-out tires is dangerous! Worn-out tires can cause loss of brakingeffectiveness, steering control and trac-tion. When replacing tires, never mix ra-dial and bias-ply tires on the same car. Ifyou replace radial tires with bias-ply tires,they must be installed in sets of four. I100A01FC-GAT

It is of the utmost importance that care is exercised when changing road wheels. En-sure that the parking brake is set and that thegear shift lever is in reverse (P, if the vehiclehas automatic transaxle).

IN THE EVENT OF A PUNCTURE If a puncture occurs whilst driving the vehicle:
1. Bring the car to rest as soon as it is safe to do so and with the minimum amount of braking required which will assist in main-taining the maximum amount of control.The vehicle should be parked whereverpossible upon firm level ground to facilitatewheel changing.
SD050A2-E SPARE WHEEL (Not all models) The spare wheel is stored under the luggage compartment floor and is accessed from withinthe luggage compartment by lifting the carpetand the floor panel. To remove the spare wheel, unscrew the retainer, rotating this in an anti clockwisedirection and lift out the wheel. To replace thewheel, screw the retainer by hand until tighthaving located the wheel in the luggage com-partment floor well. The inflation pressure ofthe spare wheel should be checked at leastmonthly and whenever the wheel is fitted tothe vehicle.

2. If the vehicle is creating a hazard and the
road conditions do not permit the wheel to be changed safely, assistance should besought.
3. Passengers must not be allowed to remain inside the vehicle during wheel changing.If a puncture occurs whilst the vehicle is ona motorway, the passengers should takerefuge on the motorway embankment toavoid the possibility of injury occurringshould the vehicle be struck by othermotorway traffic.
4. Wheel changing should be performed ac- cording to the following instructions.

o Aluminium wheels which are not sup- plied as Original Equipment should not be mixed on the same vehicle withthe original steel wheels. However, it isacceptable that the steel spare wheelbe used in conjunction with OriginalEquipment aluminium wheels since theoffset of both wheels is compatible.Radial and cross ply tyres should notbe mixed on the same vehicle.

TYRE ROTATION
The tyre wear characteristics will vary be-
tween each tyre dependant upon the condi-tions of use. It is normal for the front tyres towear more rapidly than those fitted to the rearof the vehicle and therefore tyre rotation willprovide a means of helping to ensure an evenwear rate across the tyre set. For vehiclesfitted with radial ply tyres, rotation should beconfined to front to rear tyre alternation. It isnot recommended that radial ply tyres berotated from side to side. SI060A1-E
TYRE BALANCING Incorrect tyre balance will cause steering
vibration and uneven tyre wear. The vehicletyres are balanced during production but mayneed further balancing throughout the life ofthe tyres.
It is recommended that the tyres be balanced
on the car for best results and that the tyres arebalanced whenever they have been removedfrom the wheel for repair.

SNOW TYRES If it is desired to fit snow tyres to the vehicle,
it must be ascertained that the original sizeand load carrying capacity are met by thereplacement tyres. When using snow tyres,the vehicle should not be driven at speeds inexcess of 60 MPH.

WARNING: Driving on worn or defective tyres is dan-
gerous. Worn tyres may cause loss of steer- ing control and a serious deterioration ofbraking efficiency. Defective tyres may causevibration and loss of control through blowouts.
Tyres of different size, construction or tread
pattern should not be intermixed on the sameaxle. Radial and cross ply tyres should not beused on the same vehicle.
The use of tyres and wheels of non approved
sizes can be dangerous.
Tyres must be replaced when the wear indi-
cators appear as a solid bar across the tyretread. At this point, the remaining tread depthwill be approximately 0.06 in.(1.6 mm). Inaddition to this, the tyre must be replaced ifany portion of the tread has become bald orif there are any lumps, bulges or deep cuts inthe sidewalls or tread.
Replacement tyres must be of the recom-
mended size and rating and should be of thesame manufacture and tread pattern on eachaxle.
