F060H01A-AAT o Air Cleaner Filter A Genuine Hyundai air cleaner filter is recommended when the filter is re- placed. F060J01A-AAT o Spark Plugs Make sure to install new spark plugs of the correct heat range. F070B01A-GAT o Cooling System Check the cooling system part, such as radiator, coolant reservoir, hosesand connections for leakage and dam- age. Replace any damaged parts.

o Timing Belt
Inspect all parts related to the timing belt for damage and deformation. Re- place any damaged parts immediately. F060G01A-AAT
o Vapor Hose and Fuel Filler Cap
The vapor hose and fuel filler cap should be inspected at those intervals specified in the maintenance sched-ule. Make sure that a new vapor hose or fuel filler cap is correctly replaced. F060F01A-AAT
o Vacuum, Crankcase
Ventilation Hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evi-
dence of heat and/or mechanical dam-age. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessiveswelling indicate deterioration. Particu- lar attention should be paid to examin- ing those hose surfaces nearest tohigh heat sources, such as the ex- haust manifold.
Inspect the hose routing to assure that
the hoses do not come in contact withany heat source, sharp edges or mov- ing component which might cause heatdamage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make sure they aresecure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immedi- ately if there is any evidence of dete-rioration or damage. F060N02E-GAT
o Valve Clearance
Inspect excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if neces- sary. A qualified technician shouldperform the operation.

NOTE: Spark plugs should be tightened firmly. Over-tightening can dam-age the threads in the aluminum cylinder head. Leaving them too loose can cause the spark plugs toget very hot and possibly result in damage to the engine.
7. Replace the cable by pushing the insulated connector directly down onto the electrode. Check to be sure it has snapped into place and can't fall off. G070A01E-AAT

Gasoline engine
When this is done, the cover can belifted off, the old filter removed andthe new filter put in its place. Genuine Hyundai Replacement Parts are rec- ommended.

o Operating your vehicle without a proper air filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.
o When removing the air cleaner
filter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake. These may result in damage to the air cleaner filter.
Diesel engine
To change the filter, unsnap the clips
around the cover.

G140D01S-GAT Checking the Compressor Drive Belt When the air conditioning is being used regularly, the compressor drive belt tension should be checked at least once a month.To check the drive belt tension, pressdown on the belt halfway between theengine crankshaft and compressor pulleys. Pressing with your finger, you should not be able to deflect this beltanymore than 8.0 mm. If you have the instruments to check it with a force of 98N (22 lb.), the deflectionshould be approx. 8.0 mm (0.315 in.). If the belt is too loose, have it ad- justed by your Hyundai dealer. front of the blower unit behind the glove box.
It helps to decrease pollutants from
entering the car.
1. Open the glove box and remove
the adjusting pins on both sides of the glove box. 2. Remove the filter cover by pulling
upward the hooks of the filter cover.

With the engine off, press lightly onthe clutch pedal until you feel a change in resistance. This is the clutch pedalfreeplay. The freeplay should be within the limits specified in the illustration. If it is not, have it inspected by yourHyundai dealer and adjusted or re- paired if necessary.

Steering wheel

To check the steering wheel freeplay,
stop the car with the wheels pointed straight ahead and gently move the steering wheel back and forth. Use very light finger pressure and be sen-sitive to changes in resistance that mark the limits of the freeplay. If the freeplay is greater than specified, haveit inspected by your Hyundai dealer and adjusted or repaired if neces- sary. 30 mm (1.18 in.)
3. Replace the air conditioner filter with a new one.
4. Installation is the reverse order of disassembly.
CAUTION:
Be sure to install the air condi- tioner filter in the direction of thearrow sign. Otherwise, it may cause noise or deterioration.
