3 WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
14IF YOUR VEHICLE MUST BE TOWED
D080A02HR-GAT If your vehicle has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealeror a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your vehicle is not damaged in towing. Also, profes-sionals are generally aware of local laws governing towing. In any case, rather than risk damage to your car, itis suggested that you show this infor- mation to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chain system is usedand that all local laws are observed. It is recommended that your vehicle be towed with a wheel lift and dollies orflatbed equipment with all the wheels off the ground.
! CAUTION:
o Your vehicle can be damaged if towed incorrectly!
o Be sure the transmission is in
neutral.
o When the engine will not start, be
sure the steering is unlocked by placing the key in the "ACC" po- sition. CAUTION:
o The 4WD vehicle should never be towed with the wheels on the ground. This can cause seriousdamage to the transmission or the 4WD system.
o When towing the vehicle, take
care not to cause damage to thebumper or underbody of the ve- hicle.
!
HHP4045
o Do not tow with sling type truck as this may cause damage to the bumper or underbody of the ve- hicle.

NOTE:
o To do the emergency towing, first
remove the cover below the bumper on passenger's side by pulling it
o To avoid serious damage to your
4WD vehicle, limit the towing to15 km/h (10 mph) and not for more than 1.5 km (1 mile) at ANYTIME.
o Before towing, check the level of
the automatic transmission fluid. If it is below the "HOT" range on the dipstick, add fluid. If you can- not add fluid, a towing dolly mustbe used. HHP4037
For emergency towing when no com-mercial tow vehicle is available, attacha tow cable, chain or strap to one of the towing hooks under the front/rear of your car. Be very careful when at-tempting this procedure when the ve- hicle is on any unpaved surface to avoid damage to your vehicle.Nor should towing be attempted if the wheels, drive train, axles, steering or brakes are damaged. Before towing,be sure the transmission is in neutral and the key is in "ACC" (with the engine off) or in the "ON" position (withthe engine running). A driver must be in the towed car to steer it and operate the brakes.

2MAINTENANCE INTERVALS
F010C01HP-GAT
Specified Scheduled Procedures
These are the procedures such as
inspections, adjustments and replace- ments that are listed in the mainte-nance charts starting on page 5-4. These procedures must be performed at the intervals shown in the mainte-nance schedule to assure that your warranty remains in effect. Although it is strongly recommended that they beperformed by the factory-trained or distributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai dealer, these procedures maybe performed at any qualified service facility. F010D01A-AAT
General Checks
These are the regular checks youshould perform when you drive your Hyundai or you fill the fuel tank. A listof these items will be found on page 6- 5.
F010A01A-GAT Service Requirements To assure that you receive the great- est number of kilometers of satisfying operation from your Hyundai, certain maintenance procedures must be per-formed. Although careful design and engineering have reduced these to a minimum, those that are required areof the utmost importance. It is your responsibility to have thesemaintenance procedures performed to comply with the terms of the warran- ties covering your new Hyundai. TheService Passport supplied with your new vehicle provides further informa- tion about these warranties.
F010B01A-AAT
Maintenance Requirements
The maintenance required for your
Hyundai can be divided into three main areas: o Specified scheduled procedures o General checks o Do-it-yourself maintenance It is suggested that genuine Hyundai
service parts be used for any requiredrepairs or replacements. Other parts of equivalent quality such as engine oil, engine coolant, manual or auto trans-mission oil, brake fluid and so on which are not supplied by Hyundai Motor Company or its distributor maybe used without affecting your war- ranty coverage but you should always be sure these are equivalent to thequality of the original Hyundai parts. Your Service Passport provides fur- ther information about your warrantycoverage.

Do-It-Yourself Maintenance
If you are mechanically inclined, own a few tools that are required and want to take the time to do so, you can inspect and service a number of items. Formore information about doing it your- self, see Section 6. F010F01A-GAT
A Few Tips
Whenever you have your Hyundai ser- viced, keep copies of the service records in your glove box. This will help ensure that you can documentthat the required procedures have been performed to keep your warranties in effect. This is especially importantwhen service is not performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. F020A01Y-GAT Inspection should be performed any time a malfunction is experienced or suspected. Receipts for all emissioncontrol system services should be re- tained to demonstrate compliance with conditions of the emissions systemwarranty. For severe usage maintenance require-ments, see page 5-8 of this section.
