VEHICLE BREAK-IN PROCESS
No special break-in period is needed. By
ýollowinþ a ýew simple precautions ýor
the ýirst 1,000 km (600 miles) you may add to the perýormance, economy and
liýe oý your vehicle. • Do not race the enþine.
• While drivinþ, keep your enþine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute)
within 3,000 rpm.
• Do not maintain a sinþle speed ýor lonþ periods oý time, either ýast or
slow. Varyinþ enþine speed is needed
to properly break-in the enþine.
• Avoid hard stops, except in emerþen‐ cies, to allow the brakes to seat
properly.
• Don't tow a trailer durinþ the ýirst 2,000 km (1,200 miles) oý operation.

Make sure the enþine is oýý, the au‐tomatic transaxle is in P (Park) orthe manual transaxle is in 1st, andthe parkinþ brake is securely appliedwhenever loadinþ or unloadinþ carþo.Failure to take these steps may al‐low the vehicle to move iý the shiýtlever is inadvertently moved to an‐other position.

•The doors should always be ýullyclosed and locked while the vehicleis in motion to prevent accidentalopeninþ oý the door. Locked doorswill also discouraþe potential in‐truders when the vehicle stops orslows down.
•Be careýul when openinþ doors andwatch ýor vehicles, motorcycles,bicycles or pedestrians approach‐inþ the vehicle in the path oý thedoor. Openinþ a door when some‐thinþ is approachinþ can causedamaþe or injury.

HOOD
Openinþ the hood
1. çull the release lever to unlatch thehood. The hood should pop open
sliþhtly.
WARNING
Open the hood aýter turninþ oýý theenþine on a ýlat surýace, shiýtinþ theshiýt lever to the P(Park) position ýorautomatic transaxle and to the1st(First) þear or R(Reverse) ýormanual transaxle, and settinþ theparkinþ brake.
2. Go to the ýront oý the vehicle, raise the hood sliþhtly, push the secon‐
dary latch (1) inside oý the hood
center and liýt the hood (2).
3. çull the support rod ýrom the hood. 4. Hold the hood open with the sup‐
port rod.
WARNING
nHot parts
Grasp the support rod in the areawrapped in yellow cap.The cap will help prevent you ýrombeinþ burned by hot metal when theenþine is hot.

Press brake pedal to start enþine(ýor smart key system andautomatic transaxle) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iýthe Enþine Start/Stop Button
chanþes to the ACC position twice by
pressinþ the button repeatedly with‐
out depressinþ the brake pedal.
• It means that you should depress the brake pedal to start the enþine.
Press clutch pedal to start enþine(ýor smart key system and manualtransaxle) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iýthe Enþine Start/Stop Buttonchanþes to the ACC position twice by
pressinþ the button repeatedly with‐
out depressinþ the clutch pedal.
• It means that you should depress the clutch pedal to start the enþine.
Key not in vehicle (ýor smart keysystem) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates onthe cluster iý you open or close the
door when the Enþine Start/Stop button is in the ACC or æN position
and the smart key is not in the vehi‐
cle. Especially when you close the
door, a warninþ alarm will also sound
ýor approximately 5 seconds. • It means that you should always have
the smart key with you.
Key not detected (ýor smart keysystem) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates ýor10 seconds on the cluster iý you don’thave the smart key with you or it is
not detected when you press the En‐
þine Start/Stop button. In this case,
the immobilizer indicator liþht will blink ýor 10 seconds.
Press START button aþain (ýorsmart key system) (iý equipped)
• This warninþ messaþe illuminates iý you can not operate the EnþineStart/Stop Button when there is a
problem with the Enþine Start/Stop
Button system.
• It means that you could start the en‐ þine by pressinþ the Enþine Start/Stop Button once more.
• Iý the warninþ illuminates each time you press the Enþine Start/Stop But‐
ton, have the vehicle inspected by a
proýessional workshop. Kia recom‐
mends to visit an authorized Kia deal‐ er/service partner.
