NOTICE• Both the driver's and front passen-
ger's pre-tensioner seat belts may be
activated in certain frontal collisions.
The pre-tensioners will not be activat-
ed if the seat belts are not being worn
at the time of the collision.
• When the pre-tensioner seat belts are activated, a loud noise may be heard
and fine dust, which may appear to be
smoke, may be visible in the passenger
compartment. These are normal oper-
ating conditions and are not haz-
ardous.
• Although it is harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritation and should
not be breathed for prolonged peri-
ods. Wash all exposed skin areas thor-
oughly after an accident in which the
pre-tensioner seat belts were activat-
ed.
✽ ✽ NOTICEBecause the sensor that activates the
SRS air bag is connected with the pre-
tensioner seat belt, the SRS air bag
warning light ( ) on the instrument
panel will illuminate for approximately
6 seconds after the ignition switch has
been turned to the ON position, and
then it should turn off.
CAUTION
If the pre-tensioner seat belt is not
working properly, this warning lightwill illuminate even if there is no malfunction of the SRS air bag. Ifthe SRS air bag warning light doesnot illuminate when the ignitionswitch is turned ON, or if it remains illuminated after illuminating forapproximately 6 seconds, or if it illuminates while the vehicle isbeing driven, please have an authorized KIA dealer inspect thepre-tensioner seat belt and SRS airbag system as soon as possible.
WARNING
 Pre-tensioners are designed to operate only one time. After acti-
vation, pre-tensioner seat belts
must be replaced. All seat belts,
of any type, should always be
replaced after they have been
worn during a collision.
 The pre-tensioner seat belt assembly mechanisms become
hot during activation. Do not
touch the pre-tensioner seat belt
assemblies for several minutes
after they have been activated.
 Do not attempt to inspect or replace the pre-tensioner seat
belts yourself. This must be done
by an authorized KIA dealer.
 Do not strike the pre-tensioner seat belt assemblies.
 Do not attempt to service or repair the pre-tensioner seat belt
system in any manner.
 Do not put anything near the buckle. Placing objects near the
buckle can adversely affect the
buckle pretensioner and may
increase the risk of personal
injury in the event of a collision.

C040301AXM-EUCondition and operation in the front passenger occupant detection system*1) The ODS system uses a field to evaluate a person's size to determine whether theair bag should deploy. It is possible for a child to be detected and activate the ODS,
thus allowing the airbag to deploy. To maximize safety, do not allow children to ride
in the front passenger seat.
*2) Never install a child restraint system on the front passenger seat.
WARNING
Riding in an improper position or
placing weight on the front passen-
ger's seat when it is unoccupied by
a passenger adversely affects the
Occupant Detection System (ODS).
Your ODS is designed to resist
electronic waves, but do not place
an electronic device (ex. laptop
computer, after market DMB/navi-
gation/satellite audio, video game
machine, MP3, etc.) on or near the
seat cushion since it may defeat
the proper functioning of the ODS
or turn on the air bag warning light. (Continued)

WARNING
 Even though your vehicle is
equipped with the occupant
detection system, never install a
child restraint system in the front
passenger's seat. A deploying air
bag can forcefully strike a child
resulting in serious injuries or
death. Any child age 12 and
under should ride in the rear seat.
Children too large for child
restraints should use the avail-
able lap/shoulder belts. No matter
what type of crash, children of all
ages are safer when restrained in
the rear seat.
 If the PASSENGER AIR BAG “OFF” indicator is illuminated
when the front passenger's seat
is occupied by an adult and
he/she sits properly (sitting
upright with the seatback in an
upright position, centered on the
seat cushion with their seat belt
on, legs comfortably extended
and their feet on the floor), have
that person sit in the rear seat.

 Accident statistics show that chil-dren are safer if they are
restrained in the rear, as opposed
to the front seat. It is recommend-
ed that child restraints be secured
in a rear seat, including an infant
riding in a rear-facing infant seat,
a child riding in a forward-facing
child seat and an older child rid-
ing in a booster seat.
 Air bags can only be used once – have an authorized KIA dealer
replace the air bag immediately
after deployment.
 The occupant detection system may not work properly if water,
coffee or any other liquid includ-
ing rain gets on the seat. Keep
the front seat dry at all times.
 Do not place an electronic device (ex. laptop computer, after market
DMB/navigation/satellite audio,
video game machine, MP3, etc.)
on the front passenger seat. Its
electronic field may cause the
ODS to switch to the "on" condi-
tion and thus turn on the air bag
warning light or allow the pas-
senger airbag to deploy need-
lessly in a collision, increasing
your repair costs.

 If the front passenger seat is
occupied by a child who is not in
a CRS, the "PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF" indicator may or may
not be on and the passenger
airbag may or may not deploy in a
collision. Have the child move to
a rear seat to increase their safe-
ty.
 Do not modify or replace the front passenger seat. Don't place any-
thing on or attach anything such
as a blanket or seat heater to the
front passenger seat. This can
adversely affect the occupant
detection system.
 Do not place sharp objects on the front passenger seat. These may
damage the occupant detection
system, if they puncture the seat
cushion.
 Do not use accessory seat cov- ers on the front seats.

C040700AUNCurtain air bagCurtain air bags are located along both
sides of the roof rails above the front and
rear doors.
They are designed to help protect the
heads of the front seat occupants and
the rear outboard seat occupants in cer-
tain side impact collisions. The curtain air bags are designed to
deploy during certain side impact colli-
sions, depending on the crash severity,
angle, speed and point of impact.
 The curtain air bags do not only deploy on the side of the impact but also on
the opposite side.
 Also, both sides of the curtain air bags deploy in certain rollover situations.
 The curtain air bags are not designed to deploy in all side impact or rollover
situations.
WARNING
 In order for side and curtain airbags to provide the best protec-
tion, front seat occupants and
outboard rear occupants should
sit in an upright position with the
seat belts properly fastened.
Importantly, children should sit in
a proper child restraint system in
the rear seat.

 When children are seated in therear outboard seats, they must be
seated in the proper child
restraint system. Make sure to
position the child restraint sys-
tem as far away from the door
side as possible, and secure the
child restraint system in a locked
position.
 Do not allow the passengers to lean their heads or bodies
against the doors, put their arms
on the doors, stretch their arms
out of the window or place
objects between the doors and
passengers when they are seated
on seats equipped with side
impact and/or curtain air bags.
 Never try to open or repair any components of the side and cur-
tain air bag system. This should
only be done by an authorized
KIA dealer.
Failure to follow the above men-
tioned instructions can result in
injury or death to the vehicle occu-
pants in an accident.
