Proper tire inflation pressures areessential to the safe and satisfac-
tory operation of your vehicle. Re-
fer to “Tires – General Informa-
tion” in “Starting and Operating”
for information on tire pressures
and for proper tire inflation proce-
dures.
Check the trailer tires for proper tire inflation pressures before
trailer usage.
Check for signs of tire wear or vis-
ible tire damage before towing a
trailer. Refer to “Tires – General
Information” in “Starting and Op-
erating” for information on tread
wear indicators and for the proper
inspection procedure.
When replacing tires, refer to “Tires – General Information” in
“Starting and Operating” for infor -
mation on replacement tires and
for the proper tire replacement pro-
cedures. Replacing tires with a
higher load carrying capacity will
not increase the vehicle's GVWR
and GAWR limits. Towing Requirements – Trailer
Brakes
Do
notinterconnect the hydraulic
brake system or vacuum system of
your vehicle with that of the trailer.
This could cause inadequate brak-
ing and possible personal injury.
An electronically actuated trailer brake controller is required when
towing a trailer with electronically
actuated brakes. When towing a
trailer equipped with a hydraulic
surge actuated brake system, an
electronic brake controller is not
required.
Trailer brakes are recommended for trailers over 454 kg and r e-
quired for trailers in excess of
907 kg.
CAUTION!
If the trailer weighs more than
454 kg loaded, it should have its
own brakes, and they should be of
adequate capacity. Failure to do this
could lead to accelerated brake lin-
ing wear, higher brake pedal effort,
and longer stopping distances.
WARNING!
 Do not connect trailer brakes to your vehicle's hydraulic brake
lines. It can overload your brake
system and cause it to fail. You
might not have brakes when you
need them and could have an col-
lision.
 Towing any trailer will increase
your stopping distance. When
towing, you should allow for ad-
ditional space between your ve-
hicle and the vehicle in front of
you. Failure to do so could result
in a collision.
Towing Requirements – Trailer
Lights And Wiring
Whenever you pull a trailer, regard-
less of the trailer size, stoplights and
turn signals on the trailer are required
for motoring safety.
The Trailer Tow Package may include
a 7-pin or a 13-pin wiring harness.
Use a factory approved trailer harness
and connector.
NOTE:
Do not cut or splice wiring into the
vehicles wiring harness. 233

TOWING TIPS
Before setting out on a trip, practice
turning, stopping, and backing up the
trailer in an area located away from
heavy traffic. Automatic Transmission
The DRIVE range can be selected
when towing. However, if frequent
shifting occurs while in this range,
select a lower gear range using the
AutoStick® shift control (for
versions/markets, where provided).
NOTE:
Selecting a lower gear range while
operating the vehicle under heavy
operating conditions will improve
performance and extend transmis-
sion life by reducing excessive
shifting and heat buildup. This ac-
tion will also provide better engine
braking.
If you REGULARLY tow a trailer for
more than 45 minutes of continuous
operation, then change the automatic
transmission fluid and filter accord-
ing to the interval specified for “po-
lice, taxi, fleet, or frequent trailer tow-
ing.” Refer to the “Maintenance
Schedule” for the proper maintenance
intervals.

Electronic Speed Control (for
versions/markets, where
provided)
Do not use in hilly terrain or withheavy loads.
When using the speed control, if you experience speed drops greater
than 16 km/h, disengage until you
can get back to cruising speed.
Use speed control in flat terrain and with light loads to maximize
fuel efficiency.
AutoStick® (for versions/markets,
where provided)
By using the AutoStick® mode and selecting a specific gear range, fr e-
quent shifting can be avoided. The
highest gear range should be se-
lected that allows for adequate per-
formance. For example, choose “4”
if the desired speed can be main-
tained. Choose “3” or “2” if needed
to maintain the desired speed.
Extended driving at high RPM should be avoided to prevent excess heat generation. A reduction in
ve-
hicle speed may be required to
avoid extended driving at high
RPM. Return to a higher gear range
or vehicle speed when road condi-
tions and RPM level allows.
Cooling System
To reduce potential for engine and
transmission overheating, take the
following actions:
City Driving
When stopped for short periods of
time, shift the transmission into NEU-
TRAL and increase engine idle speed.
Highway Driving
Reduce speed.
Air Conditioning
Turn off temporarily.
TRAILER HITCH
ATTACHING POINTS
Your vehicle will require extra equip-
ment to tow a trailer safely and effi-
ciently. The trailer tow hitch must be
attached to your vehicle using the
provided attaching points on the ve- hicle's frame. Refer to the following
chart to determine the accurate

taching points. Other equipment,
such as trailer sway controls and
braking equipment, trailer equalizing
(leveling) equipment and low profile
mirrors, may also be required or
strongly recommended.

TIREFIT USAGE
PRECAUTIONS
 Replace the TIREFIT SealantBottle (1) and Sealant Hose (6)
prior to the expiration date (printed
on the bottle label) to assure opti-
mum operation of the system. Refer
to “Sealing a Tire with TIREFIT”
section (F) “Sealant Bottle and
Hose Replacement”.
 The Sealant Bottle (1) and Sealant Hose (6) are a one tire application
use. After each use, always replace
these components immediately at
an authorized dealer.
 When the TIREFIT sealant is in a liquid form, clean water, and a
damp cloth will remove the mate-
rial from the vehicle or tire and
wheel components. Once the seal-
ant dries, it can easily be peeled off
and properly discarded.
 For optimum performance, make sure the valve stem on the wheel is
free of debris before connecting the
TIREFIT kit.  You can use the TIREFIT air pump
to inflate bicycle tires. The kit also
comes with two needles, located in
the Accessory Storage Compart-
ment (on the bottom of the air
pump) for inflating sport balls,
rafts, or similar inflatable items.
However, use only the Air Pump
Hose (7) and make sure the Mode
Select Knob (5) is in the Air Mode
when inflating such items to avoid
injecting sealant into them. The
TIREFIT Sealant is only intended
to seal punctures less than 6 mm
diameter in the tread of your ve-
hicle.
 Do not lift or carry the TIREFIT kit by the hoses.
WARNING!
 Do not attempt to seal a tire on theside of the vehicle closest to traf-
fic. Pull far enough off the road to
avoid the danger of being hit
when using the TIREFIT kit.
 Do not use TIREFIT or drive the
vehicle under the following cir-
cumstances:

If the puncture in the tire tread
is approximately 6 mm or
larger.
If the tire has any sidewall
damage.
If the tire has any damage from
driving with extremely low tire
pressure.
If the tire has any damage from
driving on a flat tire.
If the wheel has any damage.
If you are unsure of the condi-
tion of the tire or the wheel.
 Keep TIREFIT away from open
flames or heat source.
 A loose TIREFIT kit thrown for-
ward in a collision or hard stop
could endanger the occupants of
the vehicle. Always stow the
TIREFIT kit in the place pro-
vided. Failure to follow these
warnings can result in injuries
that are serious or fatal to you,
your passengers, and others
around you.

CAUTION!
 When “rocking” a stuck vehicleby moving between DRIVE and
REVERSE, do not spin the wheels
faster than 24 km/h, or drivetrain
damage may result.
 Revving the engine or spinning
the wheels too fast may lead to
transmission overheating and
failure. It can also damage the
tires. Do not spin the wheels above
48 km/h while in gear (no trans-
mission shifting occurring).WARNING!
Fast spinning tires can be danger-
ous. Forces generated by excessive
wheel speeds may cause damage, or
even failure, of the axle and tires. A
tire could explode and injure some-
one. Do not spin your vehicle's
wheels faster than 48 km/h or for
longer than 30 seconds continuously
without stopping when you are stuck
and do not let anyone near a spin-
ning wheel, no matter what the
speed. TOW EYES
Your vehicle is equipped with tow
eyes, which are mounted in the front
and the rear.
CAUTION!
Tow eyes are for emergency use only,
to rescue a vehicle stranded off road.
Do not use tow eyes for tow truck
hookup or highway towing. You
could damage your vehicle. Tow
straps are recommended when tow-
ing the vehicle; chains may cause
vehicle damage.WARNING!
Stand clear of vehicles when pulling
with tow eyes. Tow straps and chains
may break, causing serious injury.
SHIFT LEVER
OVERRIDE — 5 SPEED
TRANSMISSION
If a malfunction occurs and the shift
lever cannot be moved out of the
PARK position, you can use the fol-
lowing procedure to temporarily
move the shift lever: 1. Firmly apply the parking brake.
2. Remove the rubber tray from the
storage bin located to the right of the
shift lever. The override access port is
near the bottom of the bin to the right
of the shift lever gate.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/
RUN position without starting the en-
gine (engine OFF).
4. Press and maintain firm pressure
on the brake pedal.
5. Using a screwdriver or similar tool,
press and hold the override tab
through the access port on the center
console.
6. Move the shift lever to the NEU-
TRAL position.

7. The vehicle may then be started in
NEUTRAL.
8. Reinstall the rubber tray in the
storage bin.
MANUAL PARK
RELEASE — 8 SPEED
TRANSMISSION (3.6L
Engine)WARNING!
Always secure your vehicle by fully
applying the parking brake, before
activating the Manual Park Release.
Activating the Manual Park Release
will allow your vehicle to roll away if
it is not secured by the parking
brake or by proper connection to a
tow vehicle. Activating the Manual
Park Release on an unsecured ve-
hicle could lead to serious injury or
death for those in or around the ve-
hicle.
In order to push or tow the vehicle in
cases where the transmission will not
shift out of PARK (such as a dead
battery), a Manual Park Release is
available. Follow these steps to use the Manual
Park Release:
NOTE:
To prevent the vehicle from rolling
unintentionally, firmly apply the
parking brake.
1. Remove the console storage bin to
access the Manual Park Release lever.
2. Using a small screwdriver or simi-
lar tool, fish the tether strap up
through the opening in the console
base.
3. Insert the screwdriver into the slot
in the center of the lever, and disen-
gage the spring steel lever locking tab
by pushing it to the right.
4. While holding the locking tab in
the disengaged position, pull the
tether strap to rotate the lever up and
rearward, until it locks in place in the
vertical position. The vehicle is now
out of PARK and can be towed. Re-
lease the parking brake only when the
vehicle is securely connected to a tow
vehicle.

To Reset The Manual Park Re-
lease:
1. Push the latch (at the base of the
lever, on the rear side) rearward
(away from the lever) to unlatch the
lever.2. Rotate the Manual Park Release
lever forward and down, to its original
position, until the locking tab snaps
into place to secure the lever.
3. Pull up gently on the tether strap
to confirm that the lever is locked in
its stowed position.4. Tuck the tether strap into the base
of the console. Reinstall the console
storage bin.

Proper towing or lifting equipment is
required to prevent damage to your
vehicle. Use only tow bars and other
equipment designed for the purpose,
following equipment manufacturer’s
instructions. Use of safety chains is
mandatory. Attach a tow bar or other
towing device to main structural
members of the vehicle, not to bum-
pers or associated brackets. State and
local laws applying to vehicles under
tow must be observed. If you must use the accessories (wip-
ers, defrosters, etc.) while being
towed, the ignition must be in the
ON/RUN position, not the ACC posi-
tion.
If the
vehicle's battery is discharged,
see “Shift Lever Override” in “What
To Do In Emergencies” for instruc-
tions on shifting the automatic trans-
mission out of the PARK position for
towing.
CAUTION!
 Do not use sling type equipment when towing. Damage to the fas-
cia will occur.
 When securing the vehicle to a
flatbed truck, do not attach to
front or rear suspension compo-
nents. Damage to your vehicle
may result from improper towing.

 Do not push or tow this vehicle
with another vehicle as damage to
the bumper fascia and transmis-
sion may result.
 If the vehicle being towed requires
steering. the ignition switch must
be in the ON/RUN position, not
the LOCK or ACC positions.
The manufacturer does not recom-
mend that you tow this vehicle on a
tow dolly. Vehicle damage may occur.
The manufacturer recommends tow-
ing your vehicle with all four wheels
OFF the ground using a flatbed.
If flatbed equipment is not available,
and the transmission is operable, the
vehicle may be flat towed (with all
four wheels on the ground) under the
following conditions:
 The shift lever must be in NEU- TRAL.  The distance to be traveled must
not exceed 24 km for 5-speed
transmission, or 48 km for 8-speed
transmission.
 The towing speed must not exceed 48 km/h.
If the transmission is not operable, or
the vehicle must be towed faster than
48 km/h or farther than 24 km for
5-speed transmission, or 48 km for
8-speed transmission, tow with the
rear wheels OFF the ground (on a
flatbed, or with the rear wheels raised
using a wheel lift and the transmission
in NEUTRAL).
CAUTION!
Failure to follow these towing meth-
ods can cause severe transmission
damage. Such damage is not covered
by the New Vehicle Limited War-
ranty. Without The Ignition Key
Special care must be taken when the
vehicle is towed with the ignition in
the OFF position. The only approved
method of towing without the ignition
key is with a flatbed truck. Proper
towing equipment is necessary to pre-
vent damage to the vehicle.
