Type One - Conventional (Non-Configurable)
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1. Switching the ignition on.
2. The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissions, orreleasing the parking brake for vehicleswith manual transmissions.
3. The lighting control is in the off, parkinglamp or autolamps positions.
4. The headlamps are off.
Type Two - Configurable
Switch the daytime running lamps on or offusing the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 118).
The daytime running lamps turn on when:
1. The lamps are on in the informationdisplay.
2. Switching the ignition on.
3. The transmission is not in park (P) forvehicles with automatic transmissions, orreleasing the parking brake for vehicleswith manual transmissions.
4. The lighting control is in the autolampsposition.
5. The headlamps are off.
The other lighting control switch positionsdo not turn on the daytime running lamps.
If the daytime running lamps are off in theinformation display, the lamps stay off in allswitch positions.
AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM
CONTROL (If Equipped)
WARNING
The system does not relieve you ofyour responsibility to drive with duecare and attention. You may need to overridethe system if it does not turn the high beamson or off.
The system turns on high beams if it is darkenough and no other traffic is present. If itdetects an approaching vehicle’s headlampsor tail lamps, or street lighting ahead, thesystem turns off high beams before they candistract other road users. Low beams remainon.
Note:The system may not operate properlyif the sensor is blocked. Keep the windshieldfree from obstruction or damage.
Note:The system may not operate properlyin cold or inclement conditions. You canswitch on the high beams by overriding thesystem.
Note:If the system detects a blockage, forexample bird droppings, bug splatter, snowor ice, the system goes into low beam modeuntil you clear the blockage. A message mayappear in the information display if thecamera is blocked.
Note:Using much larger tires or equippingvehicle accessories such as snowplows canmodify your vehicle's ride height anddegrade automatic high beam controlperformance.

steering, acceleration or braking whichcould result in an increased risk of lossof vehicle control, vehicle rollover and/orpersonal injury. Use all available roadsurface to return the vehicle to a safedirection of travel.
•In the event of an emergency stop, avoidskidding the tires and do not attempt anysharp steering wheel movements.
•If the vehicle goes from one type ofsurface to another (i.e., from concrete togravel) there will be a change in the waythe vehicle responds to a maneuver(steering, acceleration or braking). Again,avoid these abrupt inputs.
Sand
When driving over sand, try to keep all fourwheels on the most solid area of the trail.Avoid reducing the tire pressures but shiftto a lower gear and drive steadily throughthe terrain. Apply the accelerator slowly andavoid spinning the wheels.
Do not drive your AWD vehicle in deep sand.This will cause the AWD system to overheat.After the system has cooled down, normalAWD function will return.
Under severe operating conditions, the A/Cmay cycle on and off to protect overheatingof the engine.
Avoid excessive speed because vehiclemomentum can work against you and causethe vehicle to become stuck to the point thatassistance may be required from anothervehicle. Remember, you may be able to backout the way you came if you proceed withcaution.
Mud and Water
If you must drive through high water, driveslowly. Traction or brake capability may belimited.
When driving through water, determine thedepth; avoid water higher than the bottomof the wheel rims (for cars) or the bottom ofthe hubs (for trucks) (if possible) and proceedslowly. If the ignition system gets wet, thevehicle may stall.
Once through water, always try the brakes.Wet brakes do not stop the vehicle aseffectively as dry brakes. Drying can beimproved by moving your vehicle slowlywhile applying light pressure on the brakepedal.
Be cautious of sudden changes in vehiclespeed or direction when you are driving inmud. Even AWD vehicles can lose tractionin slick mud. As when you are driving oversand, apply the accelerator slowly and avoidspinning your wheels. If the vehicle doesslide, steer in the direction of the slide untilyou regain control of the vehicle.

ESSENTIAL TOWING CHECKS
Follow these guidelines for safe towing:
•Do not tow a trailer until you drive yourvehicle at least 1,000 mi (1,600 km).
•Consult your local motor vehicle laws fortowing a trailer.
•See the instructions included with towingaccessories for the proper installationand adjustment specifications.
•Service your vehicle more frequently ifyou tow a trailer. See your scheduledmaintenance information.
•If you use a rental trailer, follow theinstructions the rental agency gives you.
You can find information on loadspecification terms found on the tire labeland Safety Compliance label as well asinstructions on calculating your vehicle's loadin the Load Carrying chapter. See Load Limit(page 259).
Remember to account for the trailer tongueweight as part of your vehicle load whencalculating the total vehicle weight.
Hitches
Do not use a hitch that either clamps ontothe bumper or attaches to the axle.
Distribute the trailer load so 10-15% of thetotal trailer weight is on the tongue.
Safety Chains
Note:Never attach safety chains to thebumper.
Always connect the safety chains to the hookretainers of your vehicle hitch.
To connect the safety chains, cross themunder the trailer tongue and allow enoughslack for turning tight corners. Do not allowthe chains to drag on the ground.
Trailer Brakes
WARNING
Do not connect a trailer's hydraulicbrake system directly to your vehicle'sbrake system. Your vehicle may not haveenough braking power and your chances ofhaving a collision greatly increase.
Electric brakes and manual, automatic orsurge-type trailer brakes are safe if you installthem properly and adjust them to themanufacturer's specifications. The trailerbrakes must meet local and federalregulations.
The rating for the tow vehicle's brakingsystem operation is at the gross vehicleweight rating, not the gross combinedweight rating.
Separate functioning brake systems arerequired for safe control of towed vehiclesand trailers weighing more than 1500pounds (680 kilograms) when load.
Trailer Lamps
WARNING
Never connect any trailer lamp wiringto the vehicle's tail lamp wiring; thismay damage the electrical system resultingin fire. Contact your authorized dealer assoon as possible for assistance in propertrailer tow wiring installation. Additionalelectrical equipment may be required.

Note:Do not use household cleaningproducts or glass cleaners, which can stainand discolor the fabric and affect the flameretardant abilities of the seat materials.
For fabric, carpets, cloth seats, safety beltsand seats equipped with side airbags:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Remove light stains and soil withMotorcraft Professional Strength Carpet& Upholstery Cleaner.
For grease or tar stains:
•Spot clean the area with Motorcraft Spotand Stain Remover (MotorcraftMulti-Purpose Cleaner in Canada).
•If a ring forms on the fabric after spotcleaning, clean the entire areaimmediately (but do not oversaturate) orthe ring will set.
Cleaning Black Label or PresidentialInterior (If Equipped)
Note:Alcantara microfiber cloth fabric ismade of polyester microfiber withmicro-porous polyurethane. Usingcommercially available fabric cleaners cancause permanent damage.
Note:Do not use commercially availableleather and vinyl cleaning products onAlcantara microfiber cloth fabric.
Note:Lincoln Black Label or Presidentialvehicles may have Alcantara microfiber clothfabric on the seats, headliner, floor mats anddoor panels.
Depending on the type of stain, use water,lemon juice or pure ethyl alcohol whencleaning. For cleaning Alcantara microfibercloth, refer to the following chart:
Cleaning ProcedureType of Stain
Use lukewarm water and rinse by dabbing with clean water.Fruit juice, jam, jelly, syrup or ketchup.
Use cold water and rinse by dabbing with clean water. Avoid warmwater because it makes these substances coagulate.Blood, egg, excrement or urine.
Use lukewarm water. If the color remains, treat with lemon juice andthen rinse.Liquor, alcoholic beverages, wine, beer, cola and tea.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Notice to utility vehicle and truckowners
WARNINGS
Utility vehicles have a significantlyhigher rollover rate than other types ofvehicles. To reduce the risk of serious injuryor death from a rollover or other crash youmust avoid sharp turns and abruptmaneuvers, drive at safe speeds for theconditions, keep tires properly inflated, neveroverload or improperly load your vehicle,and make sure every passenger is properlyrestrained.
In a rollover crash, an unbelted personis significantly more likely to die thana person wearing a seat belt. All occupantsmust wear seat belts, and children andinfants must use appropriate restraints tominimize the risk of injury or ejection.
Utility vehicles and trucks handle differentlythan passenger cars in the various drivingconditions that are encountered on streets,highways and off-road. Utility vehicles andtrucks are not designed for cornering atspeeds as high as passenger cars any morethan low-slung sports cars are designed toperform satisfactorily under off-roadconditions.
Study your owner's manual and anysupplements for specific information aboutequipment features, instructions for safedriving and additional precautions to reducethe risk of an accident or serious injury.
All-wheel drive system (if equipped)
WARNING
Do not become overconfident in theability of all-wheel-drive vehicles.Although an all-wheel-drive vehicle mayaccelerate better than a two-wheel drivevehicle in low traction situations, it will notstop any faster than two-wheel drivevehicles. Always drive at a safe speed.
A vehicle equipped with all-wheel drive hasthe ability to use all four wheels to poweritself. This increases traction which mayenable you to safely drive over terrain androad conditions that a conventionaltwo-wheel drive vehicle cannot.
For all-wheel-drive vehicles, a spare tire ofa different size other than the tire providedshould never be used. A dissimilar spare tiresize (other than the spare tire provided) ormajor dissimilar tire sized between the frontand rear axles could cause theall-wheel-drive system to stop functioningand default to front-wheel drive.

3. Snap the back cover back into place.
4.Wrap the dual purpose hose (black tube)around the channel on the bottom of thehousing/casing.
5.Wrap the power cord around the housingand stow the accessory power plug intoits storage area.
Note:If you experience any difficulties withthe removal or installation of the sealantcanister, consult an authorized Ford dealerfor assistance.
Make sure you check the sealantcompound’s use-by date regularly. Theuse-by date is on a label located on thesealant canister, which you can see throughthe rectangular viewing window on thebottom of the kit. You should replace thesealant canister after four years of non-use.
TIRE CARE
Important Information About Low-Profile Tires
If your vehicle is equipped with265/40R21 tires, they are low-profiletires. These tires and wheels aredesigned to give your vehicle a sportappearance. With low-profile tires, youmay notice an increase in road noiseand faster tire wear, depending on roadconditions and driving styles. Due totheir design, low-profile tires and wheelsare more prone to road damage frompotholes, rough or unpaved roads, carwash rails and curb contact thanstandard tires and wheels.
Note:Your vehicle's warranty does not
cover these types of damages. Extracaution should be taken when operatingon rough roads to avoid impacts thatcould cause wheel and tire damage.

Important Information About SportTires and Wheels
Vehicles equipped with the optional265/40R21 tires are designed toenhance performance. To continueproviding this performance, extra caremust be taken when operating andmaintaining your vehicle.
These low-profile high-performance tiresare designed to optimize the drivingdynamics you expect in a sport vehiclein both dry and wet conditions. Thesetires are not optimized for off-road orwinter (snow or cold weather)performance; and their ride, noise, andwear characteristics are different thannon-performance tires. With low-profiletires, you may notice an increase in road
noise and faster wear, depending onroad conditions and driving habits. Also,because of their lower profile, the tiresare more susceptible to road damagefrom potholes, rough or unpaved roads,car wash rails, and curb contact thanstandard tires and wheels.
Note:Your vehicle’s warranty does notcover these types of damages. Extracaution should be taken when operatingon rough roads to avoid impacts thatcould cause wheel and tire damage.
The optional 265/40R21 tires weredesigned for track use and may exhibitsignificantly reduced tread life andincreased tire noise compared to thestandard equipment tires under normaldriving conditions. Increasing the frontcamber settings beyond the factorysettings may further accelerate treadwear and induce tire noise.
Note: Do not use tire chains on yourvehicle’s optional 265/40R21 tires andwheels. The use of any type of tire chainon these tires may damage your vehicle.

Notice to Crossover Vehicle Owners
Crossover vehicles handle differentlythan passenger cars in the variousdriving conditions that are encounteredon streets, highways and off-road.Crossover vehicles are not designed forcornering at speeds as high aspassenger cars any more than low-slungsports cars are designed to performsatisfactorily under off-road conditions.

Information About Uniform Tire QualityGrading
Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires. The TireQuality Grades can be found whereapplicable on the tire sidewall betweentread shoulder and maximum sectionwidth. For example: Treadwear 200Traction AA Temperature A.
These Tire Quality Grades aredetermined by standards that the UnitedStates Department of Transportation hasset.
Tire Quality Grades apply to newpneumatic passenger car tires. They donot apply to deep tread, winter-typesnow tires, space-saver or temporaryuse spare tires, light truck or LT typetires, tires with nominal rim diameters of10 to 12 inches or limited production tiresas defined in Title 49 Code of FederalRegulations Part 575.104 (c)(2).
U.S. Department of Transportation Tirequality grades: The U.S. Department ofTransportation requires Ford MotorCompany to give you the followinginformation about tire grades exactly asthe government has written it.
Treadwear
The treadwear grade is a comparativerating based on the wear rate of the tirewhen tested under controlled conditionson a specified government test course.For example, a tire graded 150 wouldwear 1 ½ times as well on thegovernment course as a tire graded 100.The relative performance of tires

Information on P Type Tires
P215/65R15 95H is an example of a tiresize, load index and speed rating. Thedefinitions of these items are listedbelow. (Note that the tire size, load indexand speed rating for your vehicle maybe different from this example.)
A. P: Indicates a tire, designated by theTire and Rim Association, that may beused for service on cars, sport utilityvehicles, minivans and light trucks. Note:If your tire size does not begin with aletter this may mean it is designated byeither the European Tire and RimTechnical Organization or the Japan TireManufacturing Association.
B. 215: Indicates the nominal width ofthe tire in millimeters from sidewall edgeto sidewall edge. In general, the largerthe number, the wider the tire.
C. 65: Indicates the aspect ratio whichgives the tire's ratio of height to width.
D. R: Indicates a radial type tire.
E. 15: Indicates the wheel or rim
diameter in inches. If you change yourwheel size, you will have to purchasenew tires to match the new wheeldiameter.
F. 95: Indicates the tire's load index. Itis an index that relates to how muchweight a tire can carry. You may find thisinformation in your owner’s manual. Ifnot, contact a local tire dealer.
Note:You may not find this informationon all tires because it is not required byfederal law.
G. H: Indicates the tire's speed rating.The speed rating denotes the speed atwhich a tire is designed to be driven forextended periods of time under astandard condition of load and inflationpressure. The tires on your vehicle mayoperate at different conditions for loadand inflation pressure. These speedratings may need to be adjusted for thedifference in conditions. The ratings
range from 81 mph (130 km/h) to186 mph (299 km/h). These ratings arelisted in the following chart.

K. Maximum Load: Indicates themaximum load in kilograms and poundsthat can be carried by the tire. See theSafety Compliance Certification Label(affixed to either the door hinge pillar,door-latch post, or the door edge thatmeets the door-latch post, next to thedriver's seating position), for the correcttire pressure for your vehicle.
L. Treadwear, Traction andTemperature Grades:
*Treadwear The treadwear grade is acomparative rating based on the wearrate of the tire when tested undercontrolled conditions on a specifiedgovernment test course. For example,a tire graded 150 would wear one andone-half times as well on the
government course as a tire graded 100.
*Traction: The traction grades, fromhighest to lowest are AA, A, B, and C.The grades represent the tire's ability tostop on wet pavement as measuredunder controlled conditions on specifiedgovernment test surfaces of asphalt andconcrete. A tire marked C may havepoor traction performance.
*Temperature: The temperature gradesare A (the highest), B and C,representing the tire's resistance to thegeneration of heat and its ability todissipate heat when tested undercontrolled conditions on a specifiedindoor laboratory test wheel.
M. Maximum Inflation Pressure:Indicates the tire manufacturer'smaximum permissible pressure, or the
pressure at which the maximum loadcan be carried by the tire. This pressureis normally higher than the vehiclemanufacturer's recommended coldinflation pressure, which can be foundon the Safety Compliance CertificationLabel (affixed to either the door hingepillar, door-latch post, or the door edgethat meets the door-latch post, next to
the driver's seating position), or TireLabel which is located on the B-Pillar orthe edge of the driver’s door. The coldinflation pressure should never be setlower than the recommended pressureon the vehicle label.
The tire suppliers may have additionalmarkings, notes or warnings such asstandard load or radial tubeless.
Additional Information Contained onthe Tire Sidewall for LT Type Tires
Note:Tire Quality Grades do not applyto this type of tire.
