PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Cruise control lets you maintain a set speedwithout keeping your foot on the acceleratorpedal. You can use cruise control when yourvehicle speed is greater than 20 mph(30 km/h).
USING CRUISE CONTROL (If Equipped)
WARNING: Do not use cruise controlon winding roads, in heavy traffic or whenthe road surface is slippery. This could resultin loss of vehicle control, serious injury ordeath.
WARNING: When you are goingdownhill, your vehicle speed could increaseabove the set speed. The system does notapply the brakes.
To help the system to maintain the set speedwhen going downhill, downshift to a lowergear.
Your vehicle speed could decrease belowthe set speed when driving uphill.
Note:The system cancels if your vehiclespeed drops below 10 mph (16 km/h) underthe set speed when driving uphill.
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel. A more detailed graphic is in theSteering Wheel information. See CruiseControl (page 82).
Switching Cruise Control On
Press and release the button.
The indicator appears in theinformation display.
Setting the Cruise Speed
Drive to your preferred speed.
Press and release to set thecurrent speed.
Press and release to set thecurrent speed.
Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
Note:The indicator will change color.
Changing the Set Speed
Press and release to increase theset speed in small increments.
Press and release to decrease theset speed in small increments.
Press and hold either button to accelerateor decelerate, respectively. Release thebutton when you reach your preferred speed.

WARNING: Adaptive cruise controldoes not detect pedestrians or objects in theroad.
WARNING: Adaptive cruise controldoes not detect oncoming vehicles in thesame lane.
WARNING: Adaptive cruise control isnot a crash warning or avoidance system.
The system adjusts your vehicle speed tomaintain the set gap between you and thevehicle in front of you in the same lane. Youcan select four gap settings.
The system uses a radar sensor whichprojects a beam directly in front of yourvehicle.
Note:It is your responsibility to stay alert,drive safely and be in control of the vehicleat all times.
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel. See Using Cruise Control (page 222).
Switching Adaptive Cruise Control On
Press and release the button.
The indicator, current gap settingand set speed appear in theinformation display.
Setting the Adaptive Cruise Speed
Drive to the desired speed.

Following a Vehicle to a Complete Stop
If your vehicle follows a vehicle to a completestop and remains stationary for less thanthree seconds, your vehicle accelerates froma stationary position to follow the vehicleahead.
If your vehicle follows a vehicle toa complete stop and remainsstationary for more than threeseconds, press to follow the vehicle ahead.Or press the accelerator pedal.
Setting the Gap Distance
You can decrease or increase the distancebetween your vehicle and the vehicle in frontby pressing the gap control.
Press and release to decrease thegap distance.
Press and release to increase thegap distance.
The selected gap appears in the informationdisplay as shown by the bars in the image.
Note:The gap setting is time dependent andtherefore the distance adjusts with yourvehicle speed.
Note:It is your responsibility to select a gapappropriate to the driving conditions.

Each time you switch the system on, itselects the last chosen gap setting.
Overriding the Set Speed
WARNING: If you override the systemby pressing the accelerator pedal, it doesnot automatically apply the brakes tomaintain a gap from any vehicle ahead.

When you press the accelerator pedal, youoverride the set speed and gap distance.
Use the accelerator pedal normallyto intentionally exceed the setspeed limit.
When you override the system, the greenindicator light illuminates and the vehicleimage does not appear in the informationdisplay.
The system resumes operation when yourelease the accelerator pedal. The vehiclespeed decreases to the set speed, or a lowerspeed if following a slower vehicle.
Changing the Set Speed
Press and release to increase theset speed in small increments.
Press and release to decrease theset speed in small increments.
Press and hold either button to change theset speed in large increments. Release thebutton when you reach the desired speed.
The system may apply the brakes to slowthe vehicle to the new set speed. The setspeed displays continuously in theinformation display when the system isactive.
Canceling the Set Speed
Press and release the button or tapthe brake pedal.
The set speed does not erase.
Resuming the Set Speed
Press and release the button.
Your vehicle speed returns to the previouslyset speed and gap setting. The set speeddisplays continuously in the informationdisplay when the system is active.
Note:Only use resume if you are aware ofthe set speed and intend to return to it.
Automatic Cancellation
Automatic cancellation can also occur when:
•The tires lose traction.
•You apply the parking brake.
Park Brake Application
Automatic parking brake application andcancellation occurs if:
•You unbuckle the seatbelt and open thedoor after you stop the vehicle.
•You hold the vehicle at a stopcontinuously for more than three minutes.
Hilly Condition Usage
You should select a lower gear when thesystem is active in situations such asprolonged downhill driving on steep grades,for example in mountainous areas. Thesystem needs additional engine braking inthese situations to reduce the load on thevehicle’s regular brake system to prevent itfrom overheating.
Note:An audible alarm sounds and thesystem shuts down if it applies brakes for anextended period of time. This allows thebrakes to cool. The system functionsnormally again after the brakes cool.

Switching Adaptive Cruise Control Off
Press and release the button whenthe system is in standby mode, orswitch the ignition off.
Note:You erase the set speed and gapsetting when you switch the system off.
Detection Issues
WARNING: On rare occasions,detection issues can occur due to the roadinfrastructures, for example bridges, tunnelsand safety barriers. In these cases, thesystem may brake late or unexpectedly. Atall times, you are responsible for controllingyour vehicle, supervising the system andintervening, if required.
WARNING: If the system malfunctions,have your vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
The radar sensor has a limited field of view.It may not detect vehicles at all or detect avehicle later than expected in somesituations. The lead vehicle graphic does notilluminate if the system does not detect avehicle in front of you.

Switching to Normal Cruise Control
WARNING: Normal cruise control willnot brake when your vehicle is approachingslower vehicles. Always be aware of whichmode you have selected and apply thebrakes when necessary.
The cruise control indicator lightreplaces the adaptive cruisecontrol indicator light if you selectnormal cruise control. The gap setting doesnot display, and the system does not respondto lead vehicles. Automatic braking remainsactive to maintain set speed.
You can change from adaptive cruise controlto normal cruise control through theinformation display.
Switching to ECO Cruise
Using cruise control with ECO Cruiseswitched on may change the operation ofthe system. This feature saves vehicleenergy by relaxing acceleration comparedto standard cruise control. For example, yourvehicle may temporarily lose speed whengoing uphill.
For Energi vehicles, you can switch on ECOCruise using the information display.
For Hybrid vehicles, press ECO on the centerconsole.

WARNING: Take regular rest breaks ifyou feel tired. Do not wait for the system towarn you.
WARNING: Certain driving styles mayresult in the system warning you even if youare not feeling tired.
WARNING: In cold and severe weatherconditions the system may not function. Rain,snow and spray can all limit sensorperformance.
WARNING: The system will not operateif the sensor cannot track the road lanemarkings.
WARNING: If damage occurs in theimmediate area surrounding the sensor, haveyour vehicle checked as soon as possible.
WARNING: The system may notcorrectly operate if your vehicle is fitted witha suspension kit not approved by us.
Note:The system may not operate correctlyif you modify the ride height.
Note:Keep the windshield free fromobstructions. For example, bird droppings,insects, snow or ice.
Note:If the camera is blocked or if thewindshield is damaged, the system may notfunction.
Note:If enabled in the menu, the systemactivates at speeds above 40 mph (64 km/h).When below the activation speed, theinformation display informs the driver thatthe system is unavailable.
The system automatically monitors yourdriving behavior using various inputsincluding the front camera sensor.
If the system detects that your drivingalertness is reduced below a certainthreshold, the system alerts you using achime and a message in the informationdisplay.

WARNING: Large contrasts in outsidelighting can limit sensor performance.
WARNING: The system may notoperate properly if the sensor is blocked.Keep the windshield free from obstruction.
WARNING: If damage occurs in theimmediate area surrounding the sensor, haveyour vehicle checked as soon as possible.
WARNING: The system may notcorrectly operate if your vehicle is fitted witha suspension kit not approved by us.
Note:The system works above 40 mph(64 km/h).
Note:The system works as long as thecamera can detect one lane marking.
Note:When aid mode is on and the systemdetects no steering activity for a short period,the system alerts you to put your hands onthe steering wheel. The system may detecta light grip or touch on the steering wheelas hands off driving.
Note:The system may not function if thecamera is blocked, or if the windshield isdamaged or dirty.

Note:A high crown in the road or highcrosswinds may also make the steeringseem to wander or pull.
Adaptive Learning
The electronic power steering systemadaptive learning helps correct roadirregularities and improves overall handlingand steering feel. It communicates with thebrake system to help operate advancedstability control and accident avoidancesystems. Additionally, whenever the batteryis disconnected or a new battery installed,you must drive your vehicle a short distancebefore the system relearns the strategy andreactivates all systems.
PRE-COLLISION ASSIST (If Equipped)
WARNING: You are responsible forcontrolling your vehicle at all times. Thesystem is designed to be an aid and doesnot relieve you of your responsibility to drivewith due care and attention. Failure to followthis instruction could result in the loss ofcontrol of your vehicle, personal injury ordeath.
WARNING: The system does not detectvehicles that are driving in a differentdirection, pedestrians at night, cyclists oranimals. Failure to take care may result inthe loss of control of your vehicle, seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: The system does notoperate during hard acceleration or steering.Failure to take care may lead to a crash orpersonal injury.
WARNING: The system may fail oroperate with reduced function during coldand severe weather conditions. Snow, ice,rain, spray and fog can adversely affect thesystem. Keep the front camera and radar freeof snow and ice. Failure to take care mayresult in the loss of control of your vehicle,serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: In situations where thevehicle camera has limited detectioncapability, this may reduce systemperformance. These situations include butare not limited to direct or low sunlight,vehicles at night without tail lights,unconventional vehicle types, pedestrianswith complex backgrounds, runningpedestrians, partly obscured pedestrians, orpedestrians that the system cannotdistinguish from a group. Failure to take caremay result in the loss of control of yourvehicle, serious personal injury or death.

Blocked SensorsIf a message regarding a blocked sensor orcamera appears in the information display,the radar signals or camera images areobstructed. The radar sensor is locatedbehind a fascia cover near the driver side ofthe lower grille. With an obstructed radar,the Pre-Collision Assist system does notfunction and cannot detect a vehicle ahead.With the front camera obstructed, thePre-Collision Assist system does not respondto pedestrians or stationary vehicles and thesystem performance on moving vehiclesreduces. The following table lists possiblecauses and actions for when this messagedisplays.
