If the coolant temperature is over
248 ‡(120 †), do not continue driving. The
engine will otherwise be damaged.
The coolant temperature gauge is in the
instrument cluster on the right-hand side.
Under normal operating conditions and with
the specified coolant level, the coolant
temperature may rise to 248 ‡(120 †).
Tachometer
!Do not drive in the overrevving range, as
this could damage the engine.
The red band in the tachometer indicates the
engine's overrevving range.
The fuel supply is interrupted to protect the
engine when the red band is reached.
Outside temperature display
You should pay special attention to road
conditions when temperatures are around
freezing point.
The outside temperature display is in the
multifunction display.
Changes in the outside temperature are
displayed after a short delay.
Speedometer with segments
The speedometer is divided into segments on
vehicles with DISTRONIC PLUS.
The segments in the speedometer indicate
which speed range is available.
RCruise control activated (Ypage 162):
The segments lightup from the stored
speed to the maximum speed.
RDISTRONIC PLUS activated (Ypage 164):
One or two segments in the set speed
range light up.
RDISTRONIC PLUS detectsavehicle in front:
The segments between the speed of the
vehicle in frontand the stored speed light
up.

TheFrom Starttrip computer is
automatically reset when:
Rthe ignition has been switched off for more
than four hours.
R999 hours have been exceeded.
R9,999 miles have been exceeded.

TheFrom Resettrip computer is
automatically reset if the value exceeds
9,999 hours or 99,999 miles.
ECO display
Example: ECO display
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theTripmenu.
XPress or to selectECO
DISPLAY.
If the ignition remains switched off for longer
than four hours, the ECO display will be
automatically reset.

Displaying the range and current fuel
consumption
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theTripmenu.
XPress the or button to select
current fuel consumption (not for AMG
vehicles) and approximate range .
Approximate range is calculated
according to the currentdriving style and the
amount of fuel in the tank. If there is only a
small amount of fuel left in the fuel tank, the
display shows a vehicle being refueled \n
instead of range .
Digital speedometer
Shift recommendation (Ypage 148)
Digital speedometer
Gearshift recommendation is not given on
AMG vehicles.
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theTripmenu.
XPress the or button to select the
digital speedometer.
Resetting values
Example: resetting the trip computer "From Start"
You can reset the values of the following
functions:
RTrip odometer
R"From Start" trip computer

RECO display
XPress the or button on the

function that you wish to reset.

press to confirm.
iWhen you reset the values in the "ECO
display", the values in the trip computer
"From Start" are likewise reset. When you

media can be played, dependingonthe
equipment installed in the vehicle.
XSwitch on the audio system or COMAND
and activate audio CD/DVDmode or MP3
mode; see the separate operating
instructions.
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theAudiomenu.
XTo select the next/previous track:
briefly press the or button.
XTo select a track from the track list
(rapid scrolling):press and hold the
or button until desired track has
been reached.
If you press and hold or , the
rapid scrolling speed is increased. Not all
audio drives or data carriers support this
function.
If track information is stored on the audio
device or medium, the multifunction display
will show the number and title of the track.
The current track does not appear in audio

Telephone menu
Introduction
GWARNING
If you operate informationsystems and
communication equipment integrated in the
vehicle while driving, you will be distracted
from traffic conditions. You could also lose
control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an
accident.
Only operate the equipmentwhen the traffic
situation permits. If you are not sure that this
is possible, park the vehicle paying attention
to traffic conditions and operate the
equipment when the vehicle is stationary.
When telephoning, you must observe the
legal requirements for the country in which
you are currently driving.
XSwitch on your mobile phone and audio
system or COMAND, see the separate
operating instructions.
XEstablish a Bluetooth®connection to the
audio system or COMAND; see the
separate operating instructions.
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theTelmenu.
You will see one of the following display
messages in the multifunction display:
RPhone READYor the name of the network
provider: the mobile phone has found a
network and is ready to receive.
RPhone No Service: there is no network
available or the mobile phone is searching
for a network.

Acceptingacall
Example: incoming call
XPress the button on the steering
wheel to acceptanincoming call.
If someone calls you when you are in the
Telmenu, a display message appears in the
multifunctiondisplay.
If you are not in theTelmenu, you can still
accept a call.
Rejecting or endingacall
XPress the button on the steering
wheel.
If you are not in theTelmenu, you can still
reject or end a call.
Dialing a number from the phone book
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theTelmenu.
XPress the , or button to
switch to the phone book.
XPress the or button to select the
desired name.
To start scrolling rapidly, press and hold the
or button for longer than one
second.
Rapid scrolling stops whenyou release the
button or reach the end of the list.
XIf only one telephone number is stored
for a name:press the or button
to start dialing.
or
XIf there is more than one number for a
particular name:press the or
button to display the numbers.
XPress the or button to select the
number you want to dial.
XPress the or button to start
dialing.

Redialing
The on-board computer saves the last names

Displaying the assistance graphic
XPress the or button on the

The multifunction display shows the
DISTRONIC PLUS distance display in the
assistance graphic (Ypage 170).
The assistance graphic can display the status
of and information from other driving systems
or driving safety systems.
The assistance graphic shows:
Rthe symbol when ATTENTION ASSIST
(Ypage 186) is deactivated.
Rthe lane markings as bright lines when Lane
Keeping Assist (Ypage 190) is activated.
Rthe symbol when Speed Limit Assist
(Ypage 187) is operational and the
message function is activated.
The assistance graphic can also display
traffic signs that are detected and indicate
speed limits.
Rthe symbol when the distance
warning function (Ypage 62) is
deactivated.
Rthe symbol when COLLISION
PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS (Ypage 64) is
deactivated.
Speed Limit Assist
Displaying Speed Limit Assist
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theDriveAssist
menu.
XPress the or button to select
Speed Lim. Assist.
XPress the button.
Under certain conditions (Ypage 187),
detected speed limits are shown in the
multifunction display.
Activating/deactivating the Speed Limit
Assist message function
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theDriveAssist
menu.
XPress the or button to select
Speed Lim. Assist.
XPress the button.
The multifunction display shows Speed
Limit Assist.
XPress the button.
The current selection is displayed.
XTo activate or deactivate:press .
If the Speed Limit Assist message function
is activated, a detected speed limit is
automatically displayed for five seconds.
Other items in the multifunction display are
suppressed during this time.
When Speed Limit Assist is operational and
the message function is activated, the
assistance graphic shows the
symbol.
Deactivating/activating ESP®
iObserve the "Important safety notes"
section in the description of ESP
(Ypage 65).
GWARNING
If you deactivate ESP®, ESP®no longer
stabilizes the vehicle. There is an increased
risk of skidding and an accident.

Only deactivate ESP®in the situations
described in the following.
It may be best to deactivate ESP®in the
following situations:
Rwhen using snow chains
Rin deep snow
Ron sand or gravel
Activating/deactivating ESP®on AMG
vehicles (Ypage 66).
For further information about ESP®, see
(Ypage 65).
XStart the engine.
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theDriveAssist
menu.
XPress the or button to select
ESP.
XPress the button.
XTo activate/deactivate:press the
button again.
ESP®is deactivated if the warning
lamp in the instrument cluster lights up
continuously when the engine is running.
If the warning lamp and the
warning lamp are lit continuously, ESP®is not
available due to a malfunction.

Observe the information on display messages
(Ypage 213).
Switching the distance warning
function on and off
XPress the or button on the
steering wheel to select theDriveAssist
menu.
XPress the or button to select
Distance Warning.
XPress the button.
The current selection is displayed.
XTo activate/deactivate:press the
button again.
When the distance warning function is
deactivated, the symbol appears in
the multifunction display in the assistance
graphics display.

Activating/deactivating COLLISION
PREVENTION ASSISTPLUS

When COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST
PLUS is deactivated, the symbol

assistance graphics display.
