KEYLESS- GO
Gene ra l notesBear in min d that th e engin e can be started by
any of th e vehicl e occupant s if there is a Smart -
Key in th e vehicle.
Locking and unlocking You can start , loc k or unloc k th e vehicl e usin g
KEYLESS-GO . To do this, you only need carry th e
SmartKey wit h you. You can combine th e func-
tion s of KEYLESS-GO wit h those of a conven -
tional SmartKey. Unloc k th e vehicl e by usin g
KEYLESS-GO , for instance , and loc k it usin g th e
7 butto n on th e SmartKey.
The driver's door and th e door at whic h th e han -
dle is used , mus t bot h be closed. The SmartKey
mus t be outside th e vehicle. Whe n locking or
unlocking wit h KEYLESS-GO , th e distanc e
between th e SmartKey and th e corresponding
door handle mus t no t be greate r than 3 ft (1 m).
A chec k whic h periodically establishes a radi o
connection between th e vehicl e and th e Smart -
Key determine s whether a valid SmartKey is in
th e vehicle. This occurs, for example: R

To unlock th e vehicle: touch th e inner sur -
fac e of th e door handle.X
To lock th e vehicle: touch sensor surfac e C
or D . Mak e sur e that you do no t touch th e inner
surfac e of th e door handle. X
Convenienc e closin g feature: touch
recessed sensor surfac e D for an extended
period.

To unlock th e trunk lid : pull trunk lid han -
dle C .
Deactivating and activating If you do no t inten d to use th e vehicl e for a lon -
ger period of time, you can deactivat e KEYLESS -
GO. The SmartKey will then use ver y littl e power,
thereby conserving battery power. Fo r th e pur-
poses of activation/deactivation , th e vehicl e
mus t no t be nearby. X
To deactivate: press th e 7 butto n on th e
SmartKey twice in rapi d succession .
The battery chec k lamp of th e SmartKey
flashes twice briefl y and lights up once , then
KEYLESS-GO is deactivated ( Y
page 72).X
To activate: press any butto n on th e Smart -
Key.
or X
Inser t th e SmartKey int o th e ignition lock.
KEYLESS-GO and all of it s associated features
are available again .

Press the locking button on the driver’s door

Check whether the locking knobs on the
front-passenger door and the rear doors are
still visible. Press down the locking knobs by
hand, if necessary. X
Close the driver's door. X
Take the mechanical key out of the SmartKey
( Y
page 71). X
Insert the mechanical key into the lock of the
driver's door as far as it will go.

Turn the mechanical key clockwise as far as it
will go to position G .X
Turn the mechanical key back and remove it. X
Make sure that the doors and the trunk lid are
locked. X
Insert mechanical key into the SmartKey
( Y
page 71).
i If you lock the vehicle as described above,
the fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-theft
alarm system is not armed.
Trunk
Important safety notes
G WARNING
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the
trunk lid is open when the engine is running,
especially if the vehicle is in motion. There is a
risk of poisoning.
Always switch off the engine before opening
the trunk lid. Never drive with the trunk lid
open. G WARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured sufficiently, they could slip, tip
over or be flung around and thereby hit vehicle
occupants. There is a risk of injury, particu-
larly in the event of sudden braking or a sud-
den change in direction.
Always store objects so that they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey.
! The trunk lid swings upwards when opened.
Therefore, make sure that there is sufficient
clearance above the trunk lid.
The opening dimensions of the trunk lid can be
found in the "Vehicle data" section
( Y
page 314).
You should preferably place luggage or loads in
the trunk. Observe the loading guidelines
( Y
page 233).
Do not leave the SmartKey in the trunk. You
could otherwise lock yourself out.
