mum distance
If there is an obstacle within this range, all
the warn ing lamps light up and a signal
sounds. If your vehicle's distance falls
below the minimum distance, the distance
may no longer be shown. Warnin

The warning displays show the distance
between the sensor and the obstacle.
The warning display for the front area is
located on the cockpit above the centre air
vents. The warn ing display for the rear area
is at the rear in the roof lining. Front are
awarning display

The warning display for each side of the
vehicle is divided into six yellow and two
red segments. Parkt ronic is activated if the
frame is lit.
The gear lever or selector lever positi on
determines which warning display is acti-
vated. Vehicles with manual transmission:

thautomatic transmission*:
One or more segments light up as the vehi-
cle approaches an obstacle, depend ing on
the veh icle's distance from the obstacle.
From the 7th segment, you will hear an
interm ittent warning signal. From the
8th segment, a continuous warning signal
sounds for a maximum of three seconds.

The mobile phone is connected to the
hands-free system and the multi-func-
tion steering wheel. The battery
isch arged, depen ding on
it s charge status and the position of the
key inthe ignition. The charging proc-
ess is indicated on the mobile phone
display.
i The vehicle reads the telephone books
st ore d on theSIM card and inthem obile phone
me mory. If the same entr y is stored in both tele-
phone books, both entri eswill be displayed in
th e multi-function display.
You can make a call using the sand
t buttons on the multi-function steer-
ing wheel. You can control other functions
of the mobile phone using the operat ing
system ( =page 133).
i When you remove the key from the ignition
lo ck, the mobile phone remains switched onfor
ap proxi mately ten minut es(run-on time). If you
ma ke a call during thi stime, the mobilep hone
wi llbe switched off approximately ten minutes
af ter you have hung up. Run-o
ntim e:
Yo u can change the run-on time by creating an
additional telephone boo kentry on the SIM card.
Fo r the name, enter "Nachlaufzeit" (run-on time)
and for thenumber, enterafigure between "1"
and "30" (minute s). If you do not enter a figure or
you enter an invalid figure, a run-on time of
appr oximately ten minutes will still apply.

Own number sending:
The hands -free system cannot tell whether own
nu mb er sending is enabled or disabled in the
mobile phon e.The telephone number is there-
fore always sentby defau lt.
By creating an additional telephone book entry
on the SIM card , you can switch the own number
sending function on or off:
For the name, ent er"CALLID" and for the
number ,enter a "0" or a "1". Entering:
! "0" enable sown number sending
! "1" dis ables own number sending

from a height of about 20 cm.
You will hear the bonnet catch engag-
ing.
6 Check that the bonnet has engaged
properly.
If the bonnet can be raise dslightly, itis
not prope rly locked. Open itagain and
close it with a little more force.
The vehicle consumes a maximum of 0.8 l
of oil per 1,00 0km, depending on the driv-
ing style adopted. Oil consumption may
also be hi gher if:
! the vehicle isnew
! you often drive at high engine speeds
You will only be able to estimate the oil
consumption after you have driven a con-
siderable distance. i
Lubricant additives maynot be use dsince
th ey could damage the asse mblies. The useof
suc h ad ditive s,wh ich have notbee nappro ved by
Me rcedes-Benz, will result in limitation of war-
ra nty right s.

ecking thee ngineoil level
When checking the oil level, the vehicle
must:
! be standing level
! be at normal operating tempe rature
! have been standing with the engine
switched off for at least five minutes
Ch eck the engine oil level using the ope rat-
ing syst em.
6 Turn the key to position 2in th eigni-
tion lock. The
standard display appears in the mul ti-
function display (= page 120).
6 Press the korj button on the
mu lti-function steering wheel repeat-
edly until the following message ap-
pears in the display:

6 Unscrew the cap on filler neck 1.
Make sure that you do not add too
much oil.
! You must have any exces soil drained or si-
pho ned off at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre,
for example. The engine or the catal ytic co nvert-
er co uld oth erwi se be dam aged. 6
Screw the cap back onto the filler neck. Other messages in the display
If the engine is at normal operating tem-
perature and there is too much oil, you will
see the following message:En
gine oil le vel Reduce oil level!
6Siphon off any excess engine oil.
If too much oil is added, ther eis a risk
of damage to the engine or the catalyt-
ic converter. If the key is not in position

lock, you will see the following message:
Turn on ignition to see engine oil
level!
6 Switch on the ignition.
If you see the following message:
Observe waiting time:
!You may repeat the measurement in
five minutes when the eng ine is at
normal operating temperature.

Tyres and wheels
Only correct the tyre pressures when the
tyres are cold.
The pressures of warm tyres should only
be corrected if the yare too low for the cur-
rent operat ing condi tions. Warm tyres al-
ways have higher tyre pressures than cold
tyres.
You will find a table oftyre pressures for
va rious operating conditions on the inside
of the veh icle's fuel filler flap. i
Tyre pressure values given for low loads are
mi nimum value swhich offer you good ride com-
fort charact eristics.
You can, however, also usethe value sfor higher
lo ads. These are permissible and do not adverse-
ly aff ect the running of thevehicle. However, ride
co mfort will be impaired to som edegree.
Als ocheck thet yre pressure of thespare
wheel*.
Ty re pressure changes by approximately
0. 1b ar for every 10 °C change in ambient
temperature. If you measure the tyre pres-
sures indoors where the temperature dif-
fers from the outside temperature, you will
have to correct the measured values ac-
cor dingly.
When the vehicle isdriven, the tyre tem-
perature, and wi thit the tyre pressure, in-
crease as a function of the road speed and
the load on the tyres. During the journey, the tyre pressure loss
warning system monitors the set tyre pres-
sure by comparing the speed of rotation of
the
wheels. This enables the system to de-
tect whether there has been a significant
drop in tyre pressure in one of the tyres. If
the rotation speed of a wheel changes be-
cause of a drop in tyre pressure, a corre-
sponding warning message appears in the
multi -function display. Tyre pr

After a certain teach-in period, the tyre
pressure loss warning feature monitors
the wheels for loss of pressure. If you want to cancel act
ivation:
6 Press the çbutton on the mul ti-
function steering wheel.
or
6 Wait until the
Tyre press. now OK?
message disappears.
On vehicles with the same size wheels at
the front and rear, the wheels can be inter-
changed every 5,000 to 10,000 km, de-
pend ing on the degree of tyre wear. The
same direction of rotation must be main-
tained. The front and rear wheels wear differently,
depending on the operating conditions.
Interchange the
wheels before too definite
a wear pattern forms on the tyres. The
front tyres typically wear more on the out-
er shoul der, and the rear tyres in the cen-
tre of the tread.
Each time you interchange the wheels,
you should clean the contact areas on the
wheels and brake discs thoroughly. Check
the tyre pressures. Interchanging wh

ASSYST, the A ctive S ervice Syst em, tells
you when the next service is due.
Approximately one month before the next
service is due ,one of the following mes-
sages will appear in the multi-function dis-
play while you are driving or the ignition is
switched on:Se rvice A in.. days
Se rvice A in.. km
Se rvice A due now!
TheService AorService Bmessages pro-
vi de information about the type of service
which is due. i
Thetime between individual services de-
pends on your sty leof driving. Amoderate style
of driving atmedium engine speeds and avoidi ng
short trips increase this time.
The service indicator is cleared automati-
cally after 30 seconds. You can also clear
it yourself.
6 Press the reset button on the left-hand
side of the instrument cluster
(
= page 12). If you have missed the service due date,
the following messages appear in the
multi-function display:

A signal also sounds.
A qual ified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Serv ice Centre, will reset
the service indicator after the service work
has been carr ied out.
