You can activate the following child-proof
locks:

WARNING
Children could open arear door from inside
the vehicle. This could result in serious
injuries or an accident. Therefore, when
children ride in the rear always secure the rear
doors with the child-proof locks. You secure each door individually with the
child-proof lock
sonthe rear doors. Adoor
secured with achild-proof lock cannot be
opened from inside the vehicle. When the
vehicle is unlocked, the door can be opened
from the outside.
X To activate: press the child-proof lock
lever up in the direction of arrow 001A.
X Make sure that the child-proof locks are
working properly.
X To deactivate: press the child-proof lock
lever down in the direction of arrow 0010.
Overrid efeature for the rear side
windows G
WARNING
When children ride on the vehicle's rear seats,
activate the override switch. Otherwise, the
children could be injured, e.g. by trapping
themselves in the rear side window. Children in the vehicle

the SmartKey. Remove any bulky key rings
before inserting the SmartKey into the
ignition lock.
! Keep the SmartKey away from strong
magnetic fields. Otherwise, the remote
control function could be affected.
Strong magnetic fields can occur in the
vicinity of powerful electrical installations.
R Do not keep the SmartKey:
-with electronic devices, e.g. amobile
phone or another SmartKey
- with metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal
foil
- inside metallic objects, e.g. ametal case
This can affect the functionality of the

SmartKey battery
Important safety notes G
WARNING
Batteries contain toxic and corrosive
substances. If batteries are swallowed, it can
result in severe health problems. There is a
risk of fatal injury.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children. If
ab attery is swallowed, seek medical attention
immediately.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the batteries replaced at aqualified specialist
workshop.
Checking the battery X
Press the 000For0014 button.
The battery is working properly if battery
check lamp 001Alights up briefly.
The battery is discharged if battery check
lamp 001Adoes not light up briefly.
X Change the battery (Y page 79).
i If the SmartKey battery is checked within
the signal reception range of the vehicle,
pressing the 000For0014 button:
R locks or
R unlocks the vehicle
i You can get abattery at any qualified
specialist workshop. Replacing the battery You require
aCR20253Vc ell battery.
X Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 78). 001A

X Press mechanical key 0010into the opening
in the SmartKey in the direction of the
arrow until battery compartmen tcover 001A
opens. Do not hold battery compartment

X Repeatedly tap the SmartKey against your
palm until battery 0024falls out.
X Insert the new battery with the positive
terminal facing upwards. Use alint-free
cloth to do so.
X Make sure that the surface of the battery is
free of lint, grease and other contaminants. SmartKey

the inside
You can open adoor from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. If the vehicle has
been locked with the SmartKey or with
KEYLESS-GO, opening adoor from the inside
will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (Y page 74).
You can only open the rear doors from inside
the vehicle if they are not secured by the
child-proof locks (Y page 65).82

If the vehicle has been locked using the
lockin gbutton for the central locking, or has
been locked automatically, and adoor is
opened from the inside:
R the vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had
previously been fully unlocked
R only the door which has been opened form
the inside is unlocked if only the driver's

Opening/closing automatically from
outside
Important safet ynotes G
WARNING
Combustion engine semit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the
trun klid is open when the engin eisrunning,
especially if the vehicle is in motion. There is
ar isk of poisoning.
Always switc hoff the engin ebefor eopening
the trunk lid. Never drive with the trunk lid
open.
! The trunk lid swing supwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
i Opening dimension softhe trunk lid

Opening You can open the trunk lid automatically
using the SmartKey or the handle in the trunk
lid.
X Press and hold the 000Bbutton on the
SmartKey until the trunk lid opens.
or
X If the trunk is unlocked, pull the trunk lid
handle and release it again immediately

closed even if the SmartKey is not in the
vehicle. If children are left unsupervised in the
vehicle, they could activate the functions.

leave children unsupervised in the vehicle. G
WARNING

You can open the trunk lid from the driver's
seat when the vehicle is stationary and
unlocked. Unlocking the trunk (mechanical key)
! The trunk lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
If the trunk cannot be unlocked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the
mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the trunk lid, the anti-theft alarm system
will be triggered (Y page 74).
X Take the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (Y page 78).
X Insert the mechanical key into the trunk lid

The side windows are equipped with an

Problems with the side windows

WARNING
If you close aside window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window
closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury
or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process, release
the switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window. Problem Possible causes/consequences and

While opening and closing the sliding sunroof,
body parts in close proximity could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing
procedures.
If somebody becomes trapped:
R release the switch immediately, or
R during automatic operation ,push the
switch briefly in any direction The openin
gorclosing procedure will be

If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they are
left unsupervised. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, alway stake the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
