PA RKTRONIC 1appears in the multimedia sys‐
te m at speeds below 10km/h.
The colour of the individual segments of the
wa rning display is based on the dis tance tothe
de tected obs tacle:
R Yellow segments: obstacles at a di stance
between appr ox. 0.6 m and 1.0 m
R Orange segments: obstacles at a di stance
between appr ox. 0.3 m and 0.6 m R
Red segments: obstacles at a very short
dis tance of appr ox. 0.3 m or less

Sy stem limits
Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC does not necessa‐
ri ly take into account thefo llowing obs tacles:
R Obs tacles bel ow the detection range, e.g.
pe rsons, animals or objects. R
Obs tacles ab oveth e de tection range, e.g.
ove rhanging loads, overhangs or loading
ra mp s of lor ries.
The sensors must be free of dirt, ice and slush.
Otherwise, they may not function cor rectly.
Clean the sensors regularly, especially af ter driv‐
ing off-road, taking care not toscratch or dam‐
age them (/ page198).

nction of Active Parking Assist
Ac tive Parking Assist is an electro nic parking
assis tance sy stem, which uses ultrasound with
th e assis tance of there ve rsing camera and 360°
Camera. When you are driving forw ards up to
appr oximately 35 km/h, the sy stem automati‐ cally measures parking spaces on bo
thsides of
th eve hicle.
Ac tive Parking Assist of fers thefo llowing func‐
tions:
R Count ry-dependent: parking in parking
spaces parallel tothero ad
R Parking in parking spaces perpendicular to
th ero ad (optionally either forw ards or
re ve rse)
R Exiting parking spaces if you ha vepar ked
using Active Parking Assist
As soon as all requ irements are met for sear ch‐
ing for parking spaces, theÇ display appears
in the multifunction displa y.
When Active Parking Assist has de tected park ing
spaces, theÈ display appears in the multi‐
function displa y.The ar rows show on which side
of thero ad de tected park ing spaces are located.
They are then shown in the media displa y.
The parking space can be selected as desired.
Depending on the location of the parking space,
th e parking direction (rear wards or forw ards)
can also be selec ted as desired. Driving and parking

When requ ired bylegal requirements or local

transmission position du ring the parking pro‐
cedure. The sy stem then calculates a new ve
hicle path. If no new vehicle path is availa‐
ble, the sy stem can change the transmission
position again or cancel the parking proce‐
dure.
Exiting a parking space with Active Parking
Assist

Fu nction of Cross Traf fic Alert
% Cross Traf fic Alert is only available forve hi‐
cles with Blind Spot Assist or Active Blind
Spot Assi st.
Cross Traf fic Alert can warndrivers of any cross‐
ing tra ffic when reve rsing and manoeuvring out
of a parking space. The radar sensors in the
bumper also monitor the area adjacent tothe
ve hicle. If a critical situation is de tected, the L
symbol appears inthe media display and
th eve hicle can be braked automatically.
If th era dar sensors are obstructed byvehicles
or other objects, de tection is not possible.
Cross Traf fic Alert is acti veunder thefo llowing
conditions:
R ifth eve hicle is reve rsing at a walking pace.
R manoeuvring assis tance is acti vated

Drive forw ards a short dis tance wi th the car/
trailer combination.
The comple tedte ach-in process is shown in
th e media displa y.
% The maximum articulation angle depends on
the length of the trailer. This is calculated by
th e sy stem bydriving theve hicle forw ards,
including cornering. Before the length of the
trailer has been calculated, the maximum
articulation angle is appr oximately 23°. The
longer the trailer is, the higher the maximum
articulation angle (max. appr oximately 60°). Using

Ve hicles with le vel control sy stem: the
ve hicle le vel may be changed unin tentional ly,
e.g. by ot her persons. You may become trap‐
ped if you couple up or uncouple a trailer
while theve hicle le vel is changing. In addi‐
tion, other people could become trapped if
th eir limbs are between theve hicle body and
th e tyres or underneath theve hicle.
When coupling up or uncoupling a trailer,
make sure that: #
The doors or tailgate are not opened or
closed. #
You do not initiate the le vel control sys‐
te m and do not operate theDY NA MIC
SELECT switch. #
