Observe the following points:
R
Use only the bulb types specified here.
R To prevent a short-circuit, switch off the
lights before changing a bulb.
R Only hold bulbs with a clean, lint-free cloth.
R Do not work with wet or greasy fingers.
R If the new bulb still does not light up, con-
sult a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
i Have the headlamp setting checked reg-
ularly at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Changing the front bulbs
i ML 500: the fuse box in the engine com-
partment must be removed before a bulb is
changed in the headlamp on the right-hand
side. Have the work carried out at a quali-
fied specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre. Replacing dipped-beam headlamps
(vehicles with halogen headlamps) 1

2 Bulb holder for dipped-beam headlamp
X Switch off the lights.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn housing cover 1anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Turn bulb holder 2anti-clockwise and pull
it out.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 2.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 2.X
Insert bulb holder 2and turn it clockwise.
X Align housing cover 1and turn it clock-
wise.
Replacing the bulbs in the main-beam
headlamp 1

2 Bulb holder for main-beam headlamp
X Switch off the lights.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn housing cover 1anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Turn bulb holder 2anti-clockwise and pull
it out.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 2.

Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 2.
X Insert bulb holder 2and turn it clockwise.
X Place housing cover 1back on and turn it
clockwise until it engages.
Replacing side/parking lamp bulbs 1

X Switch off the lights.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn bulb holder 1anti-clockwise and pull
it out.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 1.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 1.
X Insert bulb holder 1and turn it clockwise. Replacing the bulbs in foglamps with-

X Switch off the lights.
X Carefully detach cover 1using a suitable
object, e.g. a screwdriver.
Cover 1disengages.
X Remove cover 1. AMG Styling package* foglamps/foglamps on the
ML 63 AMG

X Switch off the lights.
X Slide a suitable object, e.g. a screwdriver,
carefully into the recess between cover
1 and the bumper.
X Detach cover 1and pull it out. If neces-
sary, carefully use the screwdriver to prise
it off. Practical advice

Foglamp screws
X Remove screws 3.
i Only remove screws 3. Do not turn the
front foglamp adjustment screws. If the
adjustment screws are turned, the front
foglamp adjustment must be checked at a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
X Remove front foglamp 2. Front foglamp
4 Bulb holder for front foglamp
X Turn bulb holder 4anti-clockwise to the
stop and remove it.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 4.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 4.
X Insert bulb holder 4and turn it clockwise.
X Insert front foglamp 2.
X Replace and tighten screws 3.
X Insert cover 1and press in firmly.
Cover 1snaps into place. Replacing the bulbs in foglamps with
cornering light function* 1

X Switch off the lights.
X Remove screws 2.
X Remove cover 3with foglamp with cor-

Bulb holder for front foglamp
X Turn bulb holder 4anti-clockwise to the
stop and remove it.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 4.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 4.
X Insert bulb holder 4and turn it clockwise.
X Insert cover 3with foglamp with cornering
light function.
X Replace and tighten the screws 2.Replacing the turn signal lamps 1

2 Bulb holder for turn signal (P 21 W)
X Switch off the lights.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn bulb holder 1or2 anti-clockwise
and pull it out.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 1or2.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 1or
2.
X Insert bulb holder 1or2 and turn clock-
wise. Changing the rear bulbs
Opening and closing the side trim pan-
els You must open the side trim panel in the load
compartment before changing the bulbs in
the tail lamps.

X To open the stowage compartment:
insert a suitable object, e.g. a coin, into the
slot of release button 1.
X Turn release button 190°in the direction
of the arrow and remove the stowage com-
partment.
X To close the stowage compartment:
insert the stowage compartment and turn
release button 1in the opposite direction
to the arrow until the slot in the release
button is in a vertical position.
X To close the side trim panel: insert the
side trim panel and turn catch 190° in the
opposite direction to the arrow. Right-hand side trim panel

X Turn the corresponding bulb holder anti-
clockwise and remove it.
X Take the bulb out of the bulb holder.
X Insert the new bulb into the bulb holder.
X Insert the bulb holder and turn it clockwise.
X Close the side trim panel (Y page 318).Vehicles with an exterior spare wheel
bracket*
On vehicles with an exterior spare wheel
bracket*, the following lamps are located in
the bumper:
R
Tail lamp
R Parking lamp
R Brake lamp
R Turn signal lamp
R Licence plate lamp Bumper

Lamp cluster
X Switch off the lights.
X Insert a plastic card into the gap between
the bumper and lamp cluster 1.X
Push the plastic card in the direction of the
arrow.
Lamp cluster 1pops out.
X Remove lamp cluster 1. Lamp cluster

Bulb holder for turn signal lamp
2 Bulb holder for tail lamp/parking lamp/
brake lamp
X Turn the corresponding bulb holder anti-
clockwise and remove it.
X Lightly press the bulb into the bulb holder,
turn it anti-clockwise and remove it from
the bulb holder.
X Insert the new bulb into the bulb holder and
turn it clockwise. Practical advice

turn it clockwise.
X Insert lamp unit 1and press in firmly.

X Open the tailgate.
X Remove screws 1.
X Remove the licence plate lamp.
X Replace the bulb.
X Insert the licence plate lamp.
X Replace and tighten screws 1. Replacing the wiper blades
Windscreen wiper blades

Risk of accident
The windscreen will not longer be properly
wiped if the wiper blades are worn. This
could prevent you from observing the traffic
conditions, thereby causing an accident.
Replace the wiper blades twice a year, ide-
ally in spring and autumn. G

The wiper arms could start moving and
cause an injury if you leave the windscreen
wipers switched on.
Remove the key from the ignition lock
before replacing the wiper blades.
! Make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the windscreen wiper to avoid dam-
aging the windscreen wiper blades. Removing 1

X Remove the key from the ignition lock.
X Fold wiper arm 4away from the wind-
screen until it engages.
X Press both release clips 2.
X Fold wiper blade 1in the direction of
