Allow the starter motor to cool down for approximately two minutes. X

Only depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converter
and damage it. X

If the coolant level is correct ,t he engine radiator fan may be faulty. The
coolant is too hot and the engine is no longer being cooled sufficiently. X
At coolant temperatures below 248 ‡( 120 †), drive to the nearest
qualified specialist workshop. X
Avoid heavy loads on the engine as you do so, e.g. driving in moun-
tainou st errai na nd stop-and-go traffic.
DYNAMIC SELEC Tb uttonUse the DYNAMIC SELECT button to change the
drive program. Depending on the drive program
selected the following vehicle characteristics

Each time you start the engine with the Smart-
Key or the Start/Stop button, drive program C is
activated. For further information about starting
the engine, see ( Y
pag e1 16).

Press DYNAMIC SELECT button C as many
times as necessary until the desired drive
progra miss elected.
The selected drive progra ma ppears in the
multifunction display. After as hort time the displa yg oes out and the status icon of the
selected drive progra ma ppears.
In addition, the current drive progra ms ettings
are displayed briefly in the multimedi as ystem
display.
i In af ew countries, the ECO start/stop func-
tion is deactivated at the factory due to the
available fuel grade. In this case, the ECO
start/stop function is not available in any
drive program, regardless of the displa yint he
multimedi as ystem display.

Push the selector lever forwards or back to
the first point of resistance.
If you switch the engine off with the transmis-
sion in position R or D ,t he automatic transmis-
sion shifts to N automatically.
With the SmartKey: if you then open the driv-
er's door or the front-passenger door or remove
the SmartKey from the ignition, the automatic
transmission shifts to P automatically.
With KEYLESS-GO: if you then open the driver's
or front-passenger door, the automatic trans-
mission shifts to P .
If you want the automatic transmission to
remain in neutral N ,e .g. when having the vehicle
cleaned in an automatic car wash with at owing

Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: remove the
Start/Stop button from the ignition lock. X

Manual gear shifting
General notes You can chang eg ear yourself using the steering
wheel paddle shifters. The transmission must be
in position D .
Depending on which steering wheel paddle
shifter is pulled, the automatic transmission
immediately shift si nt ot he nex tg ear down or
up, if permitted.
To use manual shifting, you have two options: R
temporary setting R
permanen ts etting
If you activate manual gearshifting, the multi-
function display will show the curren tg ear
instead of transmission position D .
If manual gearshifting is deactivated, the gears
will be selected automatically.

To activate: shift the selector lever to posi-

Pull steering wheel paddle shifter C or D .
Temporary setting will be activ ef or ac ertain
amount of time. Under certain condition st he
minimum amount of time is extended, e.g. in the
case of lateral acceleration, during an overrun
phase or when driving on steep terrain. X
