- You predominantly drive at low outside

R Consult a quali/ed specialist workshop if you

The vehicle will then use very little energy, thus

A dischar ged battery may freeze at temp era-
tures slightly abo veor below freezing point.
During starting assistance or battery charging,
battery gas can be released. #
Always allow a battery tothaw before
ch arging it or per form ing starting assis-
ta nce. If
th ewa rning/indicator lamps do not light up in
th e inst rument cluster at temp eratures around or
below freezing, it is highly probable that the dis-
ch arge d battery has frozen. In
this case, obser vethefo llowing points:
R Do not give theve hicle starting assis tance or
ch arge the batter y.
R The service life of a bat tery that has been
th awe d may be reduced drasticall y.
R The starting beh aviour may de teriorate, partic-
ular lyat low temp eratures.
R It is recommended that you ha veath awe d bat-
te ry checked at a quali/ed specialist workshop. &

Before disconnecting the jump leads, switch
on an electrical consumer in your ow nve hicle,

Disconnect the negative term inal clamp of the
jump lead from ea rth contact 4and then
from negative term inal 2ofthe donor bat-
te ry. #
Disconnect the positive term inal clamp of the
jump lead from positive term inal 5onthe
jump-start connection point, and then from
positive term inal 3ofthe donor batter y.
Contact pr otection co ver1 is automatically

spring forc e and the jump-start connection

Re charge the battery more frequently if you use
th eve hicle mainly for short trips and/or drive at
low outside temp eratures. #
Connect the battery charge rto the positive ter-
minal and ear thcontact in the same order as when connecting
the donor battery in the
jump-starting procedu re.
% If a battery is not /tted and not in service, you
should charge itev ery thre e months. This
helps tocounteract self-discharging and pre-
ve nt damage tothe batter y.

same quality standard.
R The snow chains must be retightened aTer
driving app roximately 1 km. This is the only
wa yto ensure the snow chains are optimal ly
seated with clearance toadjacent compo-
nents.
R Use snow chains only when thero ad sur face is
comple tely sno w-co vered. Re mo vethe snow
ch ains as soon as possible when you come to
a ro ad that is not sno w-co vered.
R Local regulations may restrict the use of snow

The system may be impaired or may not function in
th efo llowing situations:
R the tyre pressure has been set incor rectl y.
R there is a sudden pressure loss caused, for
ex ample, byafo re ign object penetrating the
tyre.
R there is a malfunction caused byano ther radio
signal source.
If th e tyre pressure monitor is malfunctioning, it
may take more than ten minutes forth eh tyre
pressure warning lamp toinform you of the mal-
function. When thefa ult has been recti/ed, the
h warning lamp goes out aTer you ha vedriven
fo r a few minutes.
The tyre pressure values indicated bythe on-board
computer may di.er from those measured at a /ll-
ing station using a pressure gauge.
The tyre pressures shown bythe on-board com-
puter referto those measured at sea le vel.At high
altitudes, the tyre pressure values indicated by a
pressure gauge are higher than those shown bythe
on-board computer. In this case, do not reduce the
tyre pressures.

The smaller the cross-section of a tyre of a speci/c
wheel size, thewo rseth e driving comfort on poor
ro ad sur faces. Ride and damping comfort are
re duced and therisk increases that when you drive
ove r obstacles, damage towheels and tyres may
re sult.
If yo uch ange wheel size on your vehicle, check it
is assigned tothe cor rect wheel size category
(/ page 260). If the assignment changes without
re coding the control units in theve hicle, the
speedome ter will not display the speed accuratel y.
Driving saf ety systems and driving systems may

Mercedes-Benz appr ovesth e use of B10 fatty acid
me thyl ester (lo w-sulphur diesel fuel with a maxi-
mum of up to10% byvolume fatty acid me thyl
ester) for all vehicles with Euro 5 diesel engines
with Common Rail Direct Injector (CDI).
Pure fatty acid me thyl ester and diesel fuel that
has a higher percentage of fatty acid me thyl ester,
e.g. B20, could damage the fuel system and the
engine.
The identi/cation of thefa tty acid me thyl ester on
th e fuel dispenser must clear lyindicate that it ful-
/ls the standard for lo w-sulphur diesel fuel. If the
identi/cation is not clear, do not refuel.

Re fuel your vehicle with as much winter diesel fuel
as possible at the beginning of winter.
Before switching towinter diesel fuel, the fuel tank
should be as em pty as possible. When /rst refuel-
ling wi thwinter diesel fuel, keep the fuel le vel lo w,
e.g. toreser veleve l. The next time youre fuel, /ll
th e fuel tank again normal ly.
